hello pet lovers,
i love naming pets and two weeks ago i named our turtle as "brian" coz i like family guy LOL
it seems that most of our dog's name comes from cartoon show or movie. i honestly like it that way coz it reminds me of the fun when i watch that particular show/movie.
i was just asking my man what he wants our next dog's name. then he said i will name him "DOG" i laugh so hard that the whole crowd in the restaurant looks at me in wonderment LOL
so i asked him why "DOG" he said coz it is very easy to remember haha
so i told him, so when someone says to our dog "OH WHAT A CUTE DOG!" then i will ask him/her how did you know his name LOL, now you can imagine how our dinner went out haha!
anyway, how about you?
where do you get your pet's name? why?
thank you for sharing in advance, looking forward to hear from you
takecare!

I think of a characterisitc of my pets - for example are they a serious cat or dog, are they black or white or both, are they fat or thin....and call them something based on a personality characteristic or a physical one. Thats the way I do it! Have had a Master Beanpole, a Duchess, a Floozy (that was a promiscous cat), a Leviathan...the list goes on!

We have two cats, Amy and Tiggy. Their father's name was Ghosty because when he was a kitten, he would just disappear in front of our eyes, plus he was a very pale gray, so the name stuck.
He fathered the ones we have now. We had originally called Amy , jaime and one day a friend called her Amy ( when she was a kitten. Her brother Tiggy , is a tiger streaked cat, so the name Tiggy was not hard to find..

My two older dogs are named Bucky and Bettie. Bettie is a corgi and I bought from a breeder in Bettie, TX So thus, that is where her name came from. She was the last one in the litter.
Now Bucky is a basset hound. She was the quiet one in the litter and that is why I picked her. She kinda matches my personality. I didn't want to name her after the small town I bought her from like Bettie's. I thought about that town high school mascot; they are the Buckeyes so that is how I came up with Bucky.
The two small towns in Texas are only miles apart. I bought them on the same day when they were only 7 wks old. Bettie is exactly one week older, but they are a pair...Bucky and Bettie!!!!!!!

well i normally name pets according to the person or any recent incident that has an impact on me!
so to say last time i watch a movie about two brothers and like that movie a lot, and then after a week or two, our neighbor's dog gave birth some puppies and they gave us two of them, so i gave the dogs the name of the two brothers of the movie!!!
my dogs became quite popular in our locality because of those names!!lol!!
that's how i do it!!

hello!
that's the easiest and the best way to name a dog or a pet i guess, coz most kids i have talked to and even adults based their pet name in such a way, i do the same most of the time so you are not alone, haha!
by the way what's the name of the 2 pups?
takecare!

Well most of our pets are named after characters from movies or tv shows. For example we have an orange cat that when we got him looked jst like the kitten from "Oliver and Company". We therefore named him Oliver.
We have one cat though named Cricket. He got his name because he doesn't meow, he chirps. I swear he does. He chirps at you. He also likes to hop like a cricket, especially when he was younger. The name just seems to fit him

i love when owners name there pet based on their personality. just show that they know their pet

You're quite welcome. If I had a way to I would video him but I can't . We have several cats here We love them as well.
Why is your cat with your mom? I can imagine you are missing him horribly. I hope you get him back soon.
Oliver also looks a lot like Morris from the old 9 lives commercials as well, if that helps. We got him from the pound when he was a kitten.

oh it's ok, i just wonder if you can. you're lucky to have many cats and the cats are very happy to have a loving family like you!
i have to leave my cat coz she dont have the documents to fly here in US, so hopefully my mom can make an arrangement for her before the end of this year.
i do miss her (sorry to confuse you SHE is a she
she loves to lay next to me in bed and only listens to me and my husband. she loves to go to the bathroom and walk in circles going down the toilet bowl, so cute, i am sad i didnt even took a video of her that time.
such a playful cat and i guess all cats are the same specially when they are a baby, that's why i enjoy them a lot.
i plan to name my future cat "chase" coz they love to chase anything that is flying or even just moving
thanks for sharing all the wonderful stuff about your pets, i appreciate it a lot!

Well, lets see. Harmony, my german shepard I named because I thought we all need some harmony in our lives. When Roxie, whom was already named, had her pups I asked my friends to help with names because there were so many of them. We had Bandit, Zen, Karma, Diesel, Forest, Hunter, and Dakota. We work on cars so that is where the auto type names came from. We once had a dog named Chassie. My hubby is Native American decent so we have chosen names from that. We have a rottie mix named Cherokee and a mutt named Chief. I love stones and have one cat named Jade. Another cat named Pumpkin because of her orange and white fur. Smokey is a really smoky gray colored cat. I have always liked the name Carly so the youngest cat whom is also orange is white is named that. Fancy is a bobtail manx mix cat. She really is fancy looking.
My step father had a thing for naming pets with the letter "S". We had Stormy and Squirt, both dogs, growing up.

hello carolyn,
nice to hear from you again!
i love all the names you mention, specially the harmony, chief and pumpkin.
you have so many pets, i wish we can do the same but we cant at the moment.
it is always special to hear the reason why they got the names for their pet. i always want to name them one by one and wish my self luck to remember them all (my mom usually call all our name - kids, but only addressing to one and mind you we are only 3 LOL) at least you're not that bad in naming names. haha!
no wonder you have a wonderful man, i can understand part of it now
by the way, your step father should know me when i was a kid then coz i name my dogs with S as well, the most famous one is my dog "silver"
anyway, thanks for sharing your stories and i always love to hear from you.

hahaha, i know what you mean by behaving the opposite of the name. i remember naming our neighbor's dog bubbles and she sure hate having a bath LOL.

Lol. Well, what is funny about the whole thing is Zen is a wild child. We kept two of Roxie's pups, Zen and Diesel. Diesel is more laid back and calm. Then there is Harmony. She loves to bark. If someone is in the yard and they aren't petting her she will bark and bark. I tried reading the definition of harmony to her and that didn't work. Seems if I name them something soothing and calm they act just the opposite, lol.

My chinchillas are called Pepsi and Max.. Originally, we were going to call them Salt and Pepper, as one is dark and one is light, then we were talking about what we'd end up calling them, and realised "Pepper" would end up being called Peps, or Pepsi a lot. When we realised that, my sister and I looked at each other and said 'Pepsi and Max' and that's what they're called! My other chinchilla is called Dusty, as she's mostly white but has a dark nose, and dark tips on her fur.. so she looks like she rang head first into a big pile of dust or something! haha.

oh so cute, i like salt & pepper (i collect them LOL) yeah cant blame you for changing the name as it is not as famous as the original one. i have never seen a dog with that description (dusty) that would be so cute in person, do you have a photo?
i love australian shepherd because of their eye and color, just a lot of going on with them and they are so sweet, i enjoy going to petsmart and pet them haha!

I have 2 beautiful dogs right now, they are half Alaskan Malimute, and half Pit Bull. Great dogs. But anyways, I will tell you there names are " Atrus(the brother) & Kat'ran( the sister)." My husband is kinda a book nerd. So he wanted me to read a 3 part book called "MYST" and I loved it. So that is where I got their names from. As for "dog" my husband normally calls all dogs byt dog and all cats by cat. I dunno.

i am not a book reader but i like to see some names in the book that struck me and leaves me an impression.
that book sounds familiar but maybe it is the movie i am thinking and not really the book.
anyway, you sure pick a great name out of so many in that book (i assume) makes me want to name my future kid in the same way
btw, i have to laugh with your husband calling animals that way, haha!

I named my dog Finn because i liked the name i was having trouble choosing a name but searched some online and Finn was what i ended up with as i think it suits him. Our other dog is named Gloria, a name that i do not like, but we have only had her two weeks so we shorten it to Glory. The name does not suit her at all so we are seriously thinking of changing it. Then we have our two cats, Kovue who my daughter named, its after a lion in the Lion King. Then there is Storm who i named because she has the same colour eyes as Storm from X-men.
My partner named my two hamsters Starsky and Hutch after the T V show.

oh, i have never have a hamster and hope someday i could, i had rabbit before and pigeons but not hamster or guinea pig so it will be cool to have them.

fluffy is a good name but i cannot name my dog like that coz most of my friends have their pet name that way, oh well.

My Dog's name is SanSan - i got her from a lady named sandra. I love sansan so much that i cried so hard when i left her in the philippines. Mom said that sansan never leaves the gate, she just sit there all day sniffing the air waiting for me to come home. At the end of the day she goes inside the house with a dropping head and sad eyes and goes straight under the bed.
We also have a dog named after a famous Filipino Singer - Martin Nievera. hehehehe., and a dog named Hitler and Mac Mac.
My Brother though like to name all his cats SUNSHINE no matter the gender..he calls them all sunshine. :)
