Is it good or bad for the health?
They say that water cleans our body and for this reason people drink lots of water. I myself do that especially this time of season here in the Philippines. It's too hot and if you don't have water with you, you'll surely gonna be dehydrated.
But, I don't advice everyone to consume huge amount of water. Not everyone can drink lots of water especially those who have edemas like pre-eclampsia patients (hypertensive pregnant women).
Let us remember that having too much may cause trouble.

Well, I actually don't believe that everyone needs 8 glasses of water. I mean some people may, I read some other studies saying that it's okay if you get your water content from other liquids juices, tea, even soda if its not really high in caffeine because it may act as a diuretic meaning it makes you urinate all the water out.

Yeah I agree with you. I'm also from the Philippines.. And with our weather here? I don't think that anyone will survive without that much amount of water. That's why I drink A LOT nowadays.

Doctors are starting to say that they don't know where the 8 glasses of water theory came from.I use to believe this also that 8 glasses of water was good for you but now the medical folks are starting to back peddling on this notion,they put it in the "old wives tales" category.

I am really bad for all I like to drink is my coffee and soda. My body is really dehydrated. I try to drink those flavored water drinks just to put something back into my system for I have a hard time just drinking plain water.I find my self going right back to coffee.

I also live in the Philippines. And as you said it's pretty hot in here. The temperature here can go as much as 30 degrees celsius. So we really need water, especially this summer season because we might get dehydrated. Actually I don't count the numbers of glasses or litters of water I drink everyday, but I know I drink enough. Since I was a kid, I was practiced to drink frequently and drink after meals. I don't like to drink cold water because I am not used to drink water that is super cold. Now I drink 1-2 glasses of water after I wake up and after an hour or so, I eat. I've read that it's good for the body but I'm not quite sure. Is it true? After drinking water at morning, I drink every breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even times between each courses. I might call myself waterholic but in my opinion I just drink enough water suitable for the weather and for my bodies needs.

well, i myself love to drink water... so there is no problem for me drinking 8 glasses of water everyday... i love water... it makes me feel fresh again when i feel tired and i drink water...

You are 200% right and water does many miraculous good things to our body which are beyond listing. Unfortunately, I always make the mistake of taking less water knowingly and also to my kids. Now, I'm trying to change this bad habit of mine and am taking more water along with my kids.

8 glasses now are not enough in this summer season. you must drink lots of it. Our school use to have water fountains around the campus. Just when the summer season entered (I'm taking summer classes) the fountains mysteriously disappear. I really want to shout about it...

its good if u drink 8 glasses of water..it not only rejuvenates u but is also cleanses the whole system..anyhow..too much of anything is good for nothing!!!

8 glasses or more in a day is the ideal one. Before, I used to drink water that way but now that I stay whole day at work, I only manage to have 4 to 7 glasses everyday. I know water is very important. I really need to change my drinking habits.

i drink more than that each day.As drinking more and more water helps you to get your body hydrated as it helps in maintaining the water levels in the body.Drinking more and more water also helps in reducing weight as in the case of obese persons.But drinking more and more water can be harmful also as in the cases mentioned above by
yellowpolkas.In summers our body tends to lose a lot of water which can lead to dehydration if the intake of water is not proper during summers.
So the conclusion is that-
drink lots and lots of water a day
to keep dehydration away

Yep water is very much necessary for the body in the adequate amount so 8 glasses are for sure necessary for the body to drink in but make sure it is not that much compulsory to drink more and more water as it can lead to the problems for the kidney if we drink more water. So 8 glasses are quite sufficient but more than that is ain't the good thing to do so what i want to advice is that go for about 6 to 8 not more than that as the excess of every thing is not good and very much excess amount of water can create the imbalance of the salts in the body.

I think it is a bit crazy to say that you need to drink a certain number of glasses every day. You definitely need to keep hydrated, but too much can be just as bad as too little. Every single person is different - different in size and different in how much he or she needs. Eight glasses is a guideline, but shouldn't be a law.
