I belong to the Congress.org website and frequently get there email alerts. One of the alerts is about our growing concerns that I think all of us have about rising food costs. Well on this particular site you can actually voice your concerns and opinions and your email letter will be forwarded to your political leaders, including yes, President Bush. I just rattled off my own letter, and now you can too Here's the link: http://www.congress.org/congressorg/issues/alert/?alertid=11307806&type=ML this website by the way is a good over all political one to be involved with

Here's my letter I just sent: Dear Mr. President, Senators, Representatives... The rising food prices really concern me and my family, for though we're technically middle class we're not doing as well as we could be. The costs of oil directly impact the costs of food and other necessities...it's not just my family who'd be in trouble if this continues...many others are doing far worse than we are. Especially due to what you're calling the housing crisis, since many more are now homeless or living out of their cars. Many of whom are families. Something really has to be done, I think. I'm not entirely sure what. But I think gaining independence from oil would help, ethanol isn't a good idea since it uses food resources, but something else. Maybe putting some pressure on OPEC to ease up too? Our economy is not in good enough of a place for this new crisis to be as easily withstood. And nature is not going to help us, not after many corporations have destroyed other potential resources which might've helped in the long run. I think something seriously needs done. If you guys could come up with a smart solution...something that won't end up hurting us further in the grand scheme of things, I know that many of us would be very grateful.

Thanks Pye! And I believe you Flam, I've been trying to get more news from Canada lately -- 'cause I blog about this stuff among other things, and I know hot's affecting places like Japan...but I've been working on hearing more from Canada, 'cause my best friend also lives there, and heck you're our neighbors..if it's getting bad here, of course it's not gonna be good for you either! What's going on really isn't just one nation now, it's really affecting everybody...and it is sad, and when I think about how it'll affect people...:( Especially the ill, recovering, the people who were doing okay and just barely staying afloat (like my own family) and those who've already been affected and lost their homes...those who can't afford to even drive to work in order to get money to support themselves... No matter where we are, it's beginning to touch everybody. It may be small for the majority in some countries...but I don't think it'll stop there, at least when the governments aren't so keen on any solutions yet, and knowing all solutions take time..*grimaces* Many people ARE helping eachother, but charities are running out of money, food and clothing banks have run on a hard time, the U.N. has requested more money to help with the food crisis...churches are reaching out to try to help, and I've heard that more and more people are turning to their neighbors for help. What more CAN we do? It's really scary. I just pray for everyone and that we'll all manage to survive and endure this. As you pointed out, help may not come in the quality that is needed. Perhaps you can trade with other families and people for healthier foods?

Being a neighbor of yours in the States( Canada) , we are also affected by a food crisis, maybe not as bad as you but , somewhere I feel that they have the solutions already. Right now my husband and I are feeling it, I lost my job and he got sick with ccancerr. Imagine , we had to go on social assistance, we both are nearly 60 , he is recovering and needs good food and what we get at the food bank is full of chemicals. The solution ?? Be treated as human beings, help one another as much s we can. Start trusting one another again. There is a bit of a dilemma , if one does not eat well, or is hungry he is weakened, and when a society is weakened they are much easier to control.. Isn't it time to feel frree as we were meant to??. We need real leaders now.. Honest, clear, healthy and strong. We have to take care important value. I cannot believe that people have to sleep in their cars...very heart breaking .. Flamenca

Thanks pye, that is a great site, I just sent my letter and included the fact that if fuel werent so high it wouldnt cost the trucks as much to get it there and we as consumers wouldnt have to absorb the cost. everything flows downhill and the consumers are at the bottom.

I wrote my own letter just now. I can bookmark this site and add my 2 cents now. I was just having a conversation yesterday that everyone complains and how many do something. Well here is something.

More and more people need to , as you say rattle and more.. How can there be a food shortage?? I think it is time we see beyond the obvious. What do you think?? Can it be aploy just to get rid of a certain amount of people on the planet.?? I think we are in for a lot of changes, people have to get their power back and empower themselves . How about maybe just by starting to eat at home more, cook good food, start a community garden, walk when you can or use your bike. Flamenca

I don't think it's so much a question of eating home more....many of us do to save money as I sure as heck couldn't afford to go to restaurants. But almost weekly one does see a rise in food prices from basics like dairy...milk, eggs, and now rice, wheat products..it's getting crazy out there as far as food costs. Community gardens would be nice..but I live in a city area where there are none..as far as walking..LOL that is my only means of traveling as I don't have a car. Most blame high food costs because of high fuel costs to transport foods
