We had to shave our cat!!!

We have had a really rough winter here in Colorado, and our poor Roxy's hair got matted and knotted up! We had to take her to the salon and get her shaved, and now she looks like she has some weird disease! Poor baby. She is much happier now! Her hair became so matted that it was hurting her!
Check out the picture of her. This was right after she got home from the salon! She looks Mad!

Oh that poor kitty...!! She sure does look mad about the whole thing! Good thing she has no idea how silly she looks.

She does look silly, and she does feel better! she is back to playing and running around. I guess thats part of having a long haired cat. We tried to keep her brushed out but she did not like it and would scratch us. She was a little sore for a while but she is doing great now!

I've often joked about shaving the cats so they stopped dropping hair about the place, but I've never done it. The closest they got was when my son took a pair of scissors to them early one morning whilst I was sleeping & gave them a bit of a trim! Stupid animals just lay there and accepted it, so they almost deserved to look so silly mind.
Any idea how long it will take your cat to grow her coat back? I hope it doesn't grow back patchy coloured like it sometimes does if they have to get shaved for an operation or soemthing. My Mum's Siamese had a square shape picked out in a slightly different colour for ages and ages before it grew out completely.
Aw, give your cat a hug from here. She must be feeling rather silly right now, although I'm sure she feels better for it.

Its growing back way faster than we expected, its only been a few days and she is looking weirder and weirder!! Her hair is coming in all patchy and blotchy! Some really dark, and some almost blond wispy like hairs.... She looks like she has some tropical disease!! Or some type of skin cancer! My brother in law stopped by today and almost wet himself laughing at her! poor kitty! She is so much happier now! Her back near her butt is still pretty sore. Thats where the hair was matted to most. She is a good kitty!

After reading back over my last comment I feel a little embarrased! I am a grown man, and I keep calling my Cat... Kitty, and baby talking about her! Oh Well, I guess I love her eh?

Too True, we are hoping that we will not have as rough a winter next winter so we can keep her hair under control. But if we need to we can shave her again! lol

Oh the poor little thing, I had a persian cat a few years ago and he had beautiful long blue fur. He got out one winter and came home in a right state I could not get the knots out at all and he had to be shaved and he looked so funny it was not funny!!!

We had to shave our longhaired siamese cat about 5 years ago. She really didnt like the process. My dad had soem really nasty scratches on him. She felt very nice and soft for ages afterwards not matted and scraglly. She runs everytime she hears anything close to the sound of a razor now.
