When we were children, we followed instructions of our parents. We never asked any questions. Obeying parents was our duty. But today world has changed, children know more than their age, they can think and ask questions. So if they want proof that man was creation of God and not Science...How will I prove it.....any suggestions.........I don't want my children to become atheists

Tough one. The whole concept of religion is faith - some would say blind faith. You have to believe or the whole religion collapses.
It was easier in the old days as you say because the ultimate weapon was fear. Fear of damnation; fear of being an outcast in society; fear of a caning; etc. Take that final method away and we are left with faith.
Difficult.

Good thing you considered that for your children. It's really hard explaining about God to children. But there's a bigger possibility that they will not become Atheists if they stay with people who believe in God. Parents have the most responsibility on this. One important thing also is to show your love for them. Children grow the right way when they feel loved specially by their parents.

I agree with you wrangel but let me tell you that I had no problem when my kids were children, but now they are age 16 and 25 and it is now that their attitude is changing and I cannot find out why....believe me, we were good parents and as long as kids were small they were praying sincerely....Thanks for your reply.

Being teenagers, kids are more influenced by the outside environment especially from friends. But I believe that they cannot neglect the lessons they have learned during their childhood.
Just be open on their decisions and be appreciative when they have done right things.
Pray also. They may ignore your advices but they can't get away from your prayers. :)

You can proove it to them in many simpler ways. Take them to temples like dharmstala(where the flame of a stove in which they cook for lakhs of devotees free of cost is still burning from 3centuries), Rameshwaram(where stones float on waters. Tell them the good stories of Ramayana, Mahabharatha. Morever you should proove them that you are a staunch beleiver of God.

Apsara, this is very difficult one. Please do not ask us to reply to such a tricky questions.....LOL!, to which even we are unable to find an exact answer even today so how can we tell a convincing reply to our children. You need to explain to kids and grown up children that God is not like a human being, so it is difficult to describe Him. God is a matter of faith, if you have faith cthat there is some super-natural power in this world, which runs the entire world, then only you would start believing in the existence of God. If kids agree to the above point of view, then you can tell them that God exists in each and everything. Be it a stone, plant, animal or human being. God is within ourselves (within the things). Everything is a creation of God. How a child comes into this world, is just a phenomonen which only God can do. We human beings are just carriers of commands of God. If you inculcate some kind of faith in kids about existence of God, since their childhood, their minds would be conditioned to that kind of thinking. You can tell them that it is not a matter of argument, it is a matter of belief and faith. If they are not 'convinced', you please do not force them to believe about God. Ask them to make their own assessment about God, based on the happenings and experiences in their lives.
Good Post!

Hi deepak, how are you today.
I know I should not ask such difficult questions, which really have no answer, but I was worried since this change in attitude of my children is recent one, they were not like that before. Besides by sharing it here on mylot, I feel better and lighter. You have given good explanation and I will use to convince my children, besides I think with time and personal experiences they will learn themselves.
Thanks for your reply.

Thanks for your comments. You can tell your children whatever I have told you, but finally leave the decision on them, do not try to convince them with your arguments. You need not say that to them - "we also believe in God, our forefather also believe in God, therefore, you should also believe in God." You can tell them that some uncommon activities and events take place in this world, for which no explanation can be found or traced, those unnatural activities occur due to existence of super-power or mother nature, which is also called God.

Hi apsara
Its faith, un conditional obeyance
How ever just want to narrate one incident which is quoted in books
One Man learned a lot and was having no relegion, he had three Question
1) If God Exist , why cant we see him
2)Whats fate
3) If satan is from fire , how he will be punished in fire
His father took him to relegious scholar, after hearing this He Slap the young Man Hard. Young man asked why u slap me, he said its answet to ur 3 Questions
1) Shcolar says:-U said u r having pain, where is pain, can u see, he said thats What God is, u cant see him, but he is there
2) Scholar asked do u know me or do u ever thing i will slap u today, young man say NO, so Scholar say it was in ur fate
3) Scholar asked, are u made of Flesh, Young man reply, YES, Schilar again asked and what my hand made of, Youn man said, Flesh, Scolar replied as u feel pain though both objects are of Flesh, the same way fire will Punish Satan
Hope its Clear, other wise i have one more example to quote

Nice.. i was faced with the same question from my little niece..who is a 5 year old...i explained her this way.. take an example when ur kid has got hurt by falling down or getting hit on the door..i took an example for her when she fell down while she was playing in the gardenlast week.. she got her knees hurt..i recollected it and said.." do u remember when u had that pain when u fell down last week..".. she said 'yes.." i asked her.. "were u able to see the pain' or did u just feel it was hurting there.. if u have seen pain what colour it was..etc.. then i said..its the same thing as god..u can just feel it,and u know that exists..just like ur knee pain..so trust it..lol.. from then on..she is using this tag "uncle.. god has come" whenever she gets knee pain..lol..now what to do?

Thanks for your reply.

I noticed that you are from Israel, I am asuming you are Jewish. I am an American Jew. Alot of young American Jews do not see the point in God. They my not eat pork, and they might even still celebrate the religious holidays, but have no interest in God. I am even guilty of not showing God enough respect when I am on MyLot by writing out his full name. I was told in my youth that you where suppose to write G-D. Most of my friend are gentiles and I wanted to fit in. So it became a habit. The world around us pulls at us from every direction. We must still live in this world, but how much does the world influence our judgement. You can raise you children up as good God fearing children but when they grow up and are out in the world they might lose their faith. You cannot prove God or what he created. Instead of trying to do the impossible, focus on why being a Jew is the best thing in life. God choose Abraham, I am sure their was other men he could have chosen, and gave him the ablity to be the father of a chosen people. Tell them they are living in the land that was an inheritance to all the children of Israel the Grandson of Father Abraham. The evidence is all around you. Questions are not bad as long as they get the right answers.

My little knowledge is, God exist by proving he made the Earth where people lives in. Scientist can't mold a land and made it to be Earth in the first place, only God has the will and power to made everything possible.

There are many things we cant prove...Infact there are many things science cant prove even.Like we cant prove our dreams, the existence of god is also hard to prove. Its like love...A feeling thats within us.Noone can force us to believe god nor can we force others. There are some moments and some incidents which make us believe in god.And its always spontaneous from within.

Don't worry.
I have PROOF FOR GOD'S EXISTENCE
Please go and see this discussion
http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1479080.aspx
I also have another more comfortable proof:-
A man went to a barbershop to have his hair cut and his beard trimmed. As the barber began to work, they began to have a good conversation. They talked about so many things and various subjects. When they eventually touched on the subject of God, the barber said: "I don't believe that God exists."
"Why do you say that?" asked the customer.
"Well, you just have to go out in the street to realize that God doesn't exist. Tell me, if God exists, would there be so many sick people? Would there be abandoned children? If God existed, there would be neither suffering nor pain. I can't imagine loving a God who would allow all of these things."
The customer thought for a moment, but didn't respond because he didn't want to start an argument. The barber finished his job and the customer left the shop. Just after he left the barbershop, he saw a man in the street with long, stringy, dirty hair and an untrimmed beard. He looked dirty and un-kept. The customer turned back and entered the barber shop again and he said to the barber: "You know what? Barbers do not exist."
"How can you say that?" asked the surprised barber. "I am here, and I am a barber. And I just worked on you!"
"No!" the customer exclaimed. "Barbers don't exist because if they did, there would be no people with dirty long hair and untrimmed beards, like that man outside."
"Ah, but barbers DO exist! What happens is, people do not come to me."
"Exactly!" affirmed the customer. "That's the point! God, too, DOES exist! What happens is, people don't go to Him."
I am sure that this will convince them.
Cheers! Have a nice day
Happy mylotting and happy earnings.

good thing your kids can now think and ask questions! The thing is you cannot prove the existence of god as it is all a question of faith.
People say god exists because he does. There is no logical way to prove god exists.
People are telling you to keep your children around people who believe in god, it is as if you had to have people constantly telling them that god exists for them to believe it.
You should let your kids think, ask questions and develop a free mind. You are trying to bring a strong influence onto your child. I believe you should let them chose for themselves instead of forcing an idea upon them.

Also, as far as 'god' and religion go, I personally believe that we are all 'god'. I create my own Reality; therefore I am my own 'god'. No outside force has created my life as it is for me. My world is what I make it, and I depend upon myself and my actions and thoughts and perceptions to make it what I want it to be.

Why is it your- or any parent's- duty to make us ['children'] believe in your god, follow your religion? I am seventeen years old. It has been bothering me for years that so many parents believe and act as if they own their offspring. What you- and parents- need to realize is that while you may be legally and financially responsible for children, you do not own us. We are our own people, and it is not your right nor your responsibility to mold us into your vision of what we should be, not your place to choose our life paths- our religion, what music we listen to, what we wear.
All you can do is tell your children what you know, feel, and believe, and trust that they will make the choices that will be best for them.
Please, respect our individuality and our right to make our own decisions in life. Guide us, help us, be there for us when we fall and teach us how to get back up again.
We will be what we will be regardless of your desires. WE ARE INDIVIDUALS, and the best thing you can do for your children is to let them know that you know this, respect this, and love them through whatever choices they make and paths they choose to follow.

ok!! ok!!... young man/lady.......just relax........don't come to the conclusion that we are forcing anything on our children. We are modern parents who are walking shoulder to shoulder with our children......I have already decided to leave them alone. let them learn from life.....and you will learn from life too some day, that words of parents have meaning and they are not worthless......take care.

I asked the same question to my dad when I was younger.
He asked me...'Can you feel the wind?' I said 'Yes'
'Can you see it?' I said 'No'
'Can you feel the sun's heat?'
'Yes'
'Can you see the heat?'
'No'
"Similarly, it's upto you to FEEL God...and unless you believe you cannot feel God. God is a power that means different things to different people. My perception of God might not be your perception. For your perception and to know God you have to first believe and feel. At first it is blind faith....but then when you can feel, you will know what the power is."
This is what my father said....he said some more things which I don't remember now because I started believing God (in my own way, of course)...and I am still looking for answers.

Dearest apsara,
I feel, faith is an amazing thing. we cannot make it happen, it happens, just as we breathe. Kids develop their faith on God and religion through their parents, family members. Right from the time they come of senses they see ppl around praying and performing pujas. They start to do the same without questioning. Most people do not question God for they know that He exists for sure and what's there to question! Some are in doubts and some are agosnistics, total non-believers.
Now this is getting long, the main thing is that since your children have grown up now it's difficult to make them believe things. Today we tend to believe things which we see. So as long as they do not come between you and your belief in God and respect your feelings do not enforce anything. Their faith would come or might not come but what's important is they grow up to to be humans with good values and integrity.
Love and hugs DD.

The existence of God is not meant to be proven. One has to accept it by faith alone if spirituality is concerned. Trying to prove the existence of God will bring down spirituality to the level of science, which isn't exactly the same. But for all it's worth, miracles serve to concretize the metaphysical in this crude existence of ours, albeit the need for explanation. Ironically, kids will find it easier to believe in God than adults who have minds that are more analytical.

Hi, is darko1 here: I just sign up today and see your post. So, im not good writhing in english but i understand and speak very well your language. For that reason im go to give you the answer to your worry on spanish and then, if you don´t speak spanish, please find sombody to translate for you, ok? Well im shure this is going to help you. And don´t worry, GOD ALWAYS GOING TO BE THERE TO HELP YOU WITH THEM.
