Your keyboard is dirtier than a toilet! - Who pays for these pointless surveys?

I've found this report on the bbc website.. "Consumer group Which? said tests at its London offices found equipment carrying bugs that could cause food poisoning. Out of 33 keyboards swabbed, four were regarded as a potential health hazard and one harboured five times more germs than one of the office's toilet seats." So hands up here who serves their food on a keyboard? do you not wash your hand before you prepare food or go for a lunch break at work? What I want to know is who actually pays for these surveys to be carried out? Isn't it a waste of some scientist job? Do scientist go to college and university for a great number of year for what? to come up with this?? What are your thoughts?

I don't know if scientist go to school for this or what, but if this is true then it is a true danger...I know that my sister got so sick from thumbimg through a magazine at the doctors office,it was from germs...I know that i see people all the time that do not wash their hands regularly...I wash my hands all of the time...I always wash my hands before and after doing anything....I also have some of that germ free stuff you put on your hands without water when water is not available...Dirty hands is one of the # 1 causes of spreading germs...

Your immune system works by picking up viruses, you get more antibodies in your system thus your immune system gets stronger. What do you think vaccinations are? They are a shot of the virus to help your body strengthen it's immune system! The more you block yourselves away from potential harm the more likely to come into contact and get ill. Your sister more likely got sick from the person sat next to her or the door handle to his office! I work in a hospital, I know the dangers of dirty hands. My point of the whole discussion was why are we paying qualified scientists with lots of qualifications, huge amounts of money to investigate what germs are on keyboards!

Actually I think they are referring not to ppl preparing or serving food on the keyboard as much as ppl that eat at their pc while their typing. The germs they can pick up from the keyboard, pass to the food they are eating and then ingesting it could make them sick. If ppl are going to eat at their pc's then they really need to clean them at least once a day. Hubby and I both eat at ours and I keep mine wiped down. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

actually a study such as this is very important. It is not about you going to lunch after touching your own keyboard. Its all about a co worker sitting down at your desk on a day you are out and picking up what ever germs on that keyboard...... But you did not wash your hands once after using the bathroom... then that co worker has a bit of a weakened immune system... and there ya go she has ecoli . Your hamburger after lunch might have be kosher in your system, but in a child's that come to play a game on your keyboard... well its a whole different story. It is really kind of selfish to think you have no place in the transference of germs from one person to the other. Trust me you do!

Well actually no I don't no one should be using my keyboard but me. Allergies, colds and such like are a way of life. If basic hygiene isn't in force you're going to catch stuff regardless. Your less hardly to catch something from a keyboard than the kids are touching a handle on a door at school or a seat on the bus, wrap them in cotton wool they will be effected by weakened immune system, because their bodies haven't had chance to strengthen it! Common Sense prevails

I just responded to a similar topic on Aussie's site. I wanted to drop by after you commented on my discussion...so here we go. You have a good point about who funds these surveys? This one is not a big news flash to me because every time they do tests on most inanimate objects they find germs and bacteria. Signs about cleanliness...washing hands thoroughly after using washrooms...and shaking hands...and...and...and. We get it...enough already! Raia
