Chat rooms / programmes do you chat to friends or to strangers?

If like me you use chat rooms and chat programmes, I just wondered who out there uses them to chat to people or friends they already know, or do you prefer to use chat programmes such as ICQ where you can chat to people all round the world? If it is the latter, what do you normally chat about and is there a continent or area that you prefer to chat with?

I rarely chat online - I'm much more of a forum/message/discussion board forum. If for some reason I do go on to chat i only chat with people I already know, like my brother or an old friend.

Fair enough, it's only when i'm really bored and can't find any discussions on here to do that I go and find someone to chat with!
