O, so you've been told to give up smoking because of health reasons - one problem, you don't actually want to! Now in my mind if you don't actually want to do something you're not actually going to achieve it are you? So come on you wise mylotters give me some ideas! (bear in mind if I go without a cigarette for more than five hours I'm the most bad tempered person you've ever come across)All suggestions gratefully received, but can't promise I'll actually act on any of them! Thanks in advance!

The only way you will be able to give up smoking is to make up your mind and stick with it...There is no easy way...Most people who smoke really enjoy smoking...The reason i gave them up is because i got a bad chest infection and could not breath, and i felt so horrible without any breath,i quit, but that was a real hard way...I do hope you do not get sick befire you quit...If you enjoy smoking but really want to quit,go to your doctor and get him to give you the pach....

Thanks slickcut, luckily it's nothing to do with my lungs or breathing, it's do do with some muscle tearing in my stomach and they reckon it won't heal properly unless I give up (any excuse to bash us smokers I guess!) I'm seeing the doctor on Wednesday, the trouble is I know I'll put on weight and I can't afford to do that either so it's whatever the worst of two evils! Thanks for your wise words!

I have been a smoker for the past 9 years and i tried quitting it numerous times but in vain. I did take a lot of oaths and promises that i will quit smoking but its been very hard for me to quit it. You strongly should have that determination to quit it and there shouldn't be any other things that force you to quit it. Promises and all the stuff wont help you in quitting. Think that you can quit it and you can get along with your life easily. Then for sure you will be able to quit it. A Strong determination will sure help you quit.

Hi Bizziebod-The will to stop smoking is the most important thing you need to work on if you have a reason to quit.Everything else after "seeing the light" is cutting down until you stop. But it won't work unless you're doing it willingly..One problem is,it's a sociable habit,a great icebreaker.I see You're in the UK..have you tried the Smokers Quitline? They may have some tips that work to recommend..I work in a Hotel in Northern Ireland..We've had over a year of no smoking in the building, and I like getting home after my shift not having my clothes stinkin of smoke..A "One Year On" study of bar staff here stated that respiratory problems had decreased since a similar study before the ban..
Good Luck!

I have been smoke free for almost a month. Just dont buy any. If you dont have any then you wont want to smoke that is what I did and it worked for me. But is hard cuz my bf which i live with smokes still but i still did it it makes you feel really good about your self when you can do this trust me.

Thanks thongs2, don't think it will be as easy as not buying them for me though (it's a nice thought!) Thanks for your response!

You simply can't. Change start from yourself so you need to make sure that you really want to quit smoking so that you can follow preventive ways on how to stop to be a smoker.

Hi there! I think that giving up smoking is useless if you don't want too. Why? Well because in order to fulfill your goal, you have to put your heart, mind and soul into it. If you can't do that then nothing will really help. Maybe it is just not the right time to give up smoking since you really don't want to stop.

You know you are absolutely right and knowing myself as well as I do it wouldn't last for long even if I did manage to. I guess there will be a time when I really want to but I've just got to get to that point! Thanks for your response!

lately,I haven't thought of quitting but more often i do try to cut down but it's even harder to say really cause i usually find myself smoking and It doesn't bother me at all. It's really when you really want to stop where u can really quit
