haggling over prices

When purchasing something at a yard sale, garage sale, or other similiar such place, do you haggle over the price, or do you just pay what the seller wants? I just pay what they want, and if I haggle, its accidental, my wife on the other hand takes it as a personal challenge to get them to drop their prices.

i usually love to haggle over prices as much as i can... every penny counts nowadays and if i can get the item for a cheaper price, why not??? so yes, i tend to haggle over prices everywhere except on those places where we are really not allowed to haggle like in a department stores... then i just have to use my judgement and evaluate whether the money i am paying is worth it... take care and have a nice day...

Thats pretty much how my wife is as well, but Lord help those poor people in the department stores if they give her the wrong amount of change. I pretty much pay what the people are asking.

Well now, I dont think that you cant haggle, you just dont want to. We both know that ability is passed on through the mother, that being said, you should be able to haggle a turtle out of his shell.

My wife does the haggling in our house, she knows that if I tried to haggle, the price may just get higher instead of lower.

Yes, we have lots of those here in my country. On flea markets, where you can bargain for the amount you prefer to. I guess I'm good at it, sweet-talking to those clerks especially women! But there are some that don't give a dang at what price you want it, so it's better if you look around for more that you believe you can acquire in a low/cheap amount..

I have a better chance of getting the price I want at a yard sale than at a flea market. I do like to go to flea markets though cause you can get some very good buys there.

A lot of time the seller puts a higher price on an item knowing that they are going to have to lower it. Thats what makes yard sales and such fun!

I am not very good at haggling, that why I take my lovely wife because she is very good at it.

If I don't think its worth what they are asking I ask if they will take any lower. Like if you see that pretty corner lamp at alh's house. Thats me... $5.oo they wanted $15.00. They were moving away and didn't want to take it, so I asked if they would take $10.00 and he asked his wife and she said she would take $5.00 they wanted to get rid of it.

I always felt that if I were saleing something, I would want them to pay what I was asking, so I mostly pay what they are asking or take my lovely wife along...

On a general, I will just pay what they want. I have been know to haggle but it was because the seller started it. Like I would start to walk away and the seller would tell me a lower price and it would just go from there.

That is pretty much like I am, if I want it I pay what they are asking, and if I haggle, its by accident.

When my hubby and I have watched programmes on television that show people haggling and bartering over prices we always say that there is no way we could do that!! We are the type that would just pay whatever the price was as long as we thought that it was reasonable!! When you go to countries where they expect you to haggle over a price, they would have to show us how to do it!! But I know a lot of people who do it and they get real good bargains.

I am afraid I wouldn't survive in a country where you had to haggle to live.

Your right it is a challenge and i not only try to get a better price at yard sales and such i also ask for lower prices in stores such as big lots and lowes. You would be suprised at the money i save.
