My husband gave me a scare yesterday

My hubby had left for work around 6 am yesterday. At about 7:15am he called me and informed me that he was going to drive himself to either Urgent Care or to the emergency room because he was having severe pains in his left side right under the edge of his rib cage, plus he had sweat literally dripping off of him because the pain was so bad. I told him I would come and get him, but he told me no because I was about 30 minutes away. So I had to sit and wait for him to call me to let me know what was going on, and the whole time I was practically in tears and scared out of my mind. He finally called about 45 minutes later and told me that he was ok. It turned out that right after he got to the hospital the pains stopped just as suddenly as they had started. So all the doctor could do was an EKG to make sure his heart was beating ok. I was a bit upset that an ultrasound wasn't done to check hubby's organs out, but I understood why they didn't do it. Since there was no pain, they couldn't really pinpoint where to look for a problem. So hubby was able to head back to work. Oh....and he didn't drive himself in. One of the guys he works with drove him and then picked him up and took him back to work. Which is a good thing because I was ready to hurt someone if they had let him drive himself in that kind of pain. No telling what could have happened to him if it got worse on the way to the hospital! I told the nurse in our family doctor's office about what had happened so on Thursday she and the doctor are going to give hubby a thorough workover and more than likely send him to the local hospital for some blood work and maybe an ultrasound. So hubby will be well taken care of. Thanks for letting me get this out of my system. I don't know what I would do without my hubby, and definitely don't know what I would do without all of my wonderful friends here. Big hugs to everyone! Carryl

That would scare me as well, kat. Wonder what caused the intense pains in the first place. Hope his dr. can figure it out Thurs. when he goes in. Big hugs to you and hubby.

I hope he gets it figured out too. For hubby to say he was in that much pain....his tolerance is VERY high, so what is painful to him would probably kill me! Thanks hon. Big hugs right back to you.

I really was terrified. My hubby is the kind that doesn't go to the doctor very willingly. It was all I could do to get him to go get checked for his diabetes. Thank God he goes to those checkups regularly. When he said he needed to go to the hospital, I KNEW it was really BAD....he never does that. I'm so glad he's ok. Thanks so much hon. Hugs!

First let me say I am glad to hear your husband is ok. I know that had to be the longest 45 minutes you've ever spent. It seems like eternity when a loved one is going to call after an incident of this nature and it takes awhile to be checked out and then make the call. I am sorry you had to go through this sort of scare alone.

It did feel like it took forever and a day for him to call me back. I kept checking my cell phone to make sure I didn't miss his call while I was in the shower. Thanks hon and big hugs to you.

Since he was hurting that bad, I can't believe that the doctor didn't do more test than what was done when he stopped in at the E.R. Even though the pain had stopped, I would have thought that they would have done an ultra sound. I have had ultra-sounds done of a couple different organs, when I wasn't in pain, as long as he could tell them where the pain was in the first place, they would have been able to do an ultra-sound. I hope that this gets figured out and hope that he is going to be fine. I will pray for him! Take care, hugs to ya, Nelly

That's how I felt. But that hospital doesn't have the best reputation for taking care of patient's needs right away. At least I have the confidence in our family doctor and I know that he will make sure that hubby is checked out this week to be sure he is ok. Thanks so much hon. Great big hugs to you too!

Cripes... they do know how to scare us! I'm sure that they'll find nothing, or something minor... you guys have been through enough! Those phone calls do send terror through you... when Hun was ferrying recovered airplanes for the insurance companies, he'd call me once in a while and open the conversation with, 'If you see something on the news, don't worry... I'm okay!'... That's where almost all of my grey hair came from. Keep us posted, hunny!! Huggin' you back!

Yep, that sounds just like something my hubby would say. That, or he would stop by the house in the middle of the day to hit the restroom, and he would tell me that he had quit his job. Talk about sending me into a full blown panic attack! Then he would smile on his way out the door and tell me he was just kidding! I could have cheerfully strangled him. LOL

Problem was, he was moving wrecks... no wings fell off, but he lost a prop once, ran out of fuel because the tanks leaked and had to set down in the middle of nowhere, and more once had an engine-out... and it seems like there are reporters everywhere, so a few times I DID see it on the news. But, luckily, after he'd already contacted me!

WOW! I wouldn't have allowed him to go back to work..at least for the rest of the day? He needed to rest after that kind of scare! Make sure you get a cardiologist to do the checking and have a major second opinion! And I hope it all is fine and he's great! But if not..you want someone who really knows theeir stuff to go over him! My best to you and the hubby!

Yes, I would have thought he would have been sent home too. But it didn't happen that way. Our family doctor is going to make sure he is ok. I'm sure hubby will be having so many tests done that he will probably scream! LOL! Thank you so much hon.

I tried to get him to take a day off, but he's about as stubborn as I am. So he's still working. But everyone at work is keeping a very close eye on him just in case. Thanks hon.

Kat, I am not being funny but was the Pain anything like I explained mine to you? I am at the Hospital on Monday to see a Gastric Surgeon They have taken my Blood though which should be with the Surgeon for when I get there I am just wondering because where his Pain was the only difference is his Pain went mine doesn't without Pain Killers but at the start it never lasted long but as the Months went on it got worse I hope that they will find what is up and make him go straight away next time and demand the Tests to be done

I promise that if it happens again I will be the biggest nag he's ever seen. He hates it when I do that, so he'll get his butt in there real quick.

You know, now that I think about it it was similar to yours. Hubby knows now to make sure that they do the tests right there at the hospital instead of waiting to see our doctor for them. He's hearing that not only from me but from his mom as well. But so far it hasn't come back.

How scary! Only yesterday, my best friend telephoned me and told me that her husband had to undergo a bypass surgery. It is over and he is recuperating. It was a long distance call and only now she found the time .She had to take him to different places for the checkup and the final operation. Her place is not a city with good facilities for a bypass. It was terribly DISTURBING. . I sincerely wish and pray that your husband's tests are all within the normal limit and he gets better soon. Does he have diabetes or bp? Take care! How i wish there were no diseases in the world at all!

I'm so glad your best friend's husband is doing ok. That must have been so scary for her and for you too. My husband does have type 2 diabetes. But the doctor is keeping a close eye on him, and he is taking his medicine for it very faithfully. I wish everyone in this world could be healthy too. Thanks so much hon.

That certainly was a bit of a scare sweety. I'm so pleased everything turned out ok. It's a good thing too that you have friends and co-workers willing to lend a hand and a family doctor who is able to show concern.

I tried to get him to come home, and so did his boss, but he can be very obstinate at times. That's why he stayed at work. I even found out that when the pain first hit him he kept loading up one of the trucks with product until someone else showed up to take him to the hospital! That's how stubborn he is.

Hi Katlady, I can understand where you're coming from here. What a scary thing to happen, and it's a good thing that he was driven there, by one of his coworkers. I'm glad that he's going to get a proper checkup later this week. Please let us know how he's doing. Take care.

OMG Katlady, I do hope everything is all right with your hubby...But couldn't they have done some kind of MRI thing just to make sure what was wrong? Or do they have to set up a proper appt. for that kind of thing? My prayers go out to you and your hubby...hope the blood work he gets might reveal what's wrong with him that caused him that scary pain

I asked hubby today about that, and I guess they had wanted to do a few tests on him, but not tests that would have done any good, at least I don't think so. So it's up to our doctor to get it all figured out.
