Do you still eat together as a family?

With the busy life we have now, I know meal time is always sacrificed if not, neglected. Everybody are in a hurry to leave home for work or school so breakfast is not a good meal to sit together as a family. Lunch, everyone is still at work or school so that is also not in the list. But supper or dinner, I think this one is something we can always look forward to. And of course, meals on weekends. I usually wait for hubby during supper time. And I can't have supper unless he is home no matter what time of the night it is. I hate to eat alone so I really love to wait for him and that is our time to talk about how our day was. So do you still eat together as a family? I will appreciate it if you could share it here. Thanks.

NOt everyday because we do have different shifts so usually, every weekend, we always get together in dinner. That is the only time that we are complete in the table.

Due to work, a lot of family find it more convenient to eat together as a family during weekends too.

when i was young my family use to eat together exspecially on holidays but as i got older that change. Eating at the table together went from the kitchen to the den sitting in a chair watching tv and eating at the same time.

It's been a long long long time since my family last sat down to have a proper meal together.. It's only during chinese new year's eve, only then we will sit down together and eat as a family.. LIke u say, due to work and sch, it's ahrd to have a proper meal together.. As for dinner, both me and father will only be back from work almost 12am, so it's quite impossible to have dinner that late.. ANd my family dun have a habit of having supper too.. Even if our whole family is at home, we still wun eat at same table, we will either be eating in fornt of the tv or eating and surfing the net at the same time..

Yes, work and school are major factors for not having a real quality time with members of the family. It maybe frustrating for some but we cannot do anything about it. Sometimes you really have to sacrifice something so gain another thing.

We eat supper together although we don't all sit around the kitchen table we mostly sit in the living room as my kitchen is not big enough for all of us to sit aroudn a table.

Well, as long as you still eat together it doesn't matter where you eat. Thanks for sharing.

Hey what you are doing is great by waiting up on your husband to eat with him and talk about how your day was. Before I got married I ate alone because I was staying alone in a rented room. I would go eat with my grandparents a few times a week but that all changed when my grandpa got ill (still miss him . But now after marriage I eat with my husband. We make it a point to wait for each other especially on Saturdays when we're both so busy. Would like to instill this with our children too in future. At least one meal a day we eat together. I think this is very important.

Yes, it's of utmost importance. During meal time is where we can talk & catch up with what's been happening so far. We work from hoem so time is quite flexible for us. We try to eat every meal together

I stay alone so I eat alone. But whenever I go home we always eat together. We talk and discuss about various issues during the meal and I think it's a good way to do. I think I eat more when I eat with others and that is good for me.

I agree, it's fun to eat when you are with people you love. You tend to forget how much you are eating and you tend to over-eat because you get good appetite when you are with people you love.

We always do, I also don't like to eat alone since I grew up in a family who will really take time to wait for every one before starting breakfast and supper during weekdays! I agree with you about perfect time to talk and ask how's our day and any experiences that both of us encounter!

I guess eating together as a family is a common family tradition. It only changes when kids leave home for college but still when they come back the family tradition will still be there. And kids who grew up with this tradition would like to continue when they have their own families.

Most of the time we do. There are some days when my husband is out of town on business and doesn't get home until 6-7 or so. Those nights we often eat whatever whenever. But, when he will be home, most of the time we do all sit down together and we also sit at the table for a little while after we have finished eating just visiting for a while. Drives the teenager nuts- but I can tell most of the time she is fine with it (maybe even enjoys it...sshhh!)

I guess kids who grew up with that set up whether they admit or not has see dining together as a family is already a family tradition. And I bet when she has her own family would like to have the same tradition.

I guess that is alright. Even if you eat in front of the TV at least you still eat together as a family. Having your kids in college is inevitable so there is nothing you can do about that.

We don't eat together as a family as such but we usually eat in neighbouring rooms, living room and dining room. Sometimes we don't even have meals at the same time, for example I usually eat round my boyfriends house.

On weekends we almost always eat as a family because everyone is home (most of the time). During the week, however, my dad is sometimes not home as he tends to work late. We usually wait for him until 8 or so, so we probably eat as a family about 5 times a week on average. Also we always eat and talk for a while, about an hour every time.

On the majority rule, we eat together as a family. My husband isn't always home to eat with us. But I generally sit at the table with my kids at dinner time and we enjoy the meal together while we talk. It's important to spend time together as a family.

I agree, work and busy schedule is the only problem with eating together as a family. I can't eat without my husband so I would really wait for him. I would eat a like snack if I know that he will be late.

A lot of families eat together as a family. In fact, my boyfriend's family is so united that they eat together every night for dinner and one day I had to sit in on that and it was really bizarre. My family doesn't do all the traditional "eating as a family type deal." We just simply grab our food and go to the living room or our own rooms and grub. However, eating with the family is not weird....it's just because I'm not used to that that it's somewhat awkard for me in times when I'm at friend's houses or something and they do the complete opposite.
