As some of you know the Duggar's are a US based family that are well known because of the number of kids they have.
Number 18 is due in January. If this baby is born in December, it will share a birthday with 3 of its brothers & sisters.
I never though about it, but she has been pregnant for 11 years of her life! She is only 41, so that mean she has only had 30 unpregnant years, and most of those were either nursing and/or taking care of young children.
Their oldest son is 21, the youngest daughter is 9 months.
I wonder when the Drs are going to tell her to stop having kids.

i think nobody can stop them as long they can manage all the children need, if they will ask help from the goverment that time the goverment will let them stop, not because they have lot of kids but there is also other kids need help not only duggars family.if they us help.

Wow, I was wondering what happened to them. I used to enjoy the show when it was on TLC.
They are a country onto themselves. The kids were amazing, well disciplined and all but in watching the show, I felt like too much was being expected of them. I think one show said a daughter, who I believe was 11 at the time was responsible for the families laundry-- what kind of childhood is that?
They said they will keep having kids as long as God allows them to do so.

I've heard of the family. I think it's great that they are having another child (despite all the health concerns). I've always wanted a houseful of kids and they seem to be doing a wonderful job. If the family has raised 17 kids well....then I'm sure the rest (I'm assuming there will be more on the way) will be well taken care of too.
No.17 and No.18 (or probably 19 too) seem to be too close in age....but I guess they know what they are doing.

I wonder if she had twins and triplets. She also must have married young and been extremely fertile. It is wonderful when there are families that are able to have that many children and are hard workers and their children are a credit. I think that children are a blessing. I was only able to bear one and the two during my marriage came through adoption and I tried like crazy to get pregnant even after that. I read she had two sets of twins. So if she did not have twins, she would have only had thirteen. The doctors should not stop telling her to have children. In fact they should give her a medal. At least none of the family is a burden. These are types of people that should have the large families, not the ones on welfare.

Wow. I couldn't imagine having that many kids. I always wanted a big family but I don't know about that big. If she is 41 and her oldest is 21 then wouldn't she have been pregnant for 20 years? She has had a kid pretty much every year since she started. I think as long as they are providing for their family, no one can or should tell them to stop. It would be one thing if they kept popping them out and couldn't keep them fed or were relying on all sorts of help.

I think what they did was figure (17 kids * 40 weeks)/53 weeks in a year, thats less than 1 year per child. Even so doing the math that way is a bit over 12 years she would have been pregnant.
There is also at least one set of twins in there.

Wow, Well I figured they'd have another one, I just wasn't expecting it this soon. I wonder if her body is getting so used to nursing babies that it's not working as birth control anymore? Not that it's polite to discuss things like that about other people, it was just a random thought that poopped into my head. Just think though, with her history of twins this pregnancy very well could give them babies 18 and 19! At this point I'm hoping they just go for an even 20...it's honestly mind boggling. But at her age their personal baby boom can't last much longer anyway so I guess they should just enjoy it while they can. It seems like thay have a happy family, she seems to enjoy being pregnant, and in the grand scheme of things she'll spend a lot more years not being pregnant and not having small children around. Kid's grow fast...if this does end up being the last baby (which I doubt) she'll still have her 60's and beyond with only adult children.
So far she's had normal pregnancies and deliveries. The only reason she's put in the high risk category is because of how many pregnancies she's had and the fact that she has had a c-section or two (I know one set of twins was a c-section, I don't remember if both sets were).
I don't believe the doctor's will tell her to stop...and in my opinion they have no right to. It is her body, and she and Jim Bob have put this in God's hands. Not everyone has to agree with their decisions but that is how they feel and they intend to follow God's will for them and not interfere with it. For them, the only One to tell them to stop having babies is God himself. Even if a doctor did tell them not to have more, I believe they would pray on it first and not just take the advice of the doctor.

Nursing is never a good birth control. Any good doctor will tel you that. Yes, your odd are reduced but almost everyone that I know that used nursing as birth control, they got pregnant while nursing.
I would hope that if a Doctor told them, your are X age, your body is too stressed and malnourished from having too many kids, they would stop. What good would it be to have more and leave the current kids with no mother?

"Nursing is never a good birth control. Any good doctor will tell you that." I know it is not a failsafe method. I was just pointing out that nursing is essentially the only method they use and this baby seems to have been conceived sooner than any of the others...which led me to wonder, obviously it worked well enough as a birth control for them for their other children to be spaced a bit further apart, so is it becoming less effective because her body is so used to doing it.

As for a doctor telling them anything, whether it be that nursing is not birth control or that she shouldn't have more children...no doctor is God. They follow God so no doctor is going to force them to do something that they feel is against God's will. They have put her life and safety in God's hands and trust Him. They feel that He will decide when her body can not handle another pregnancy and the He will ensure it doesn't happen. They believe they are doing His will and His work.

It's mindboggling to think about. Why would anyone want to have that many children? I know that children are blessings, but so are a lot of anythin. Didn't a wise person once say "everything in moderation?" WOW!!!

Wow! I love kids but not that many. Having one little boy running and screaming all over the house already keeps me busy all day but 18 kids... oh dear! How do you take care of so many kids anyway? I just can't imagine all the extra hours that you have to put in to get things done around the house. Amazing!

I watched the show on them and I am amazed at how well everything goes on in the house. Of course you don't get to see everything but it looks like everyone gets along. Then they can afford to have all of those kids to. I think last time they were on the show they had to find a different dr b/c of her having so many kids the dr didn't want to take the chance with her. So I would say the drs probably told her to stop but when will they stop? I am hoping just to have 1 more which will make it 3. Although at times I am ready to go back to work and make some money with how crazy the world is right now.

Amazing!! I remember watching a couple of shows on TLC about the Duggar's. With her last pregnancy the doctors had told her that it was no longer safe for her to have anymore children because of all of the scar tissue on her uterus. The lining of her uterus is thin so the doctors worry about it tearing open.

There are more health risks than that to having so many kids. Soon she will need surgery to keep her uterus inside her body, if she hasn't had that surgery yet.

I dont think she should be told to stop having kids, shes happy having them, she looks after them with the suport of her husband and older children and obviously wanted to have a large family. Who knows she may stop when she reaches 20 children. I mean she is now in her 40 and the risks of being pregnant in the later years is higher and she is aware of tehm but this doesnt stop her. It is shocking to think she has spent 11 years pregnant after being pregnant at the age of 20.
I think she and her family deserve and award. Is there a Guiness Book of Record for the largest family??

Just been looking at other websitses about the Duggars and all the children names start with 'J', must be confusing when wanting to call on of the children over to you.
After being married for 4 years they tried for their first child (Joshua, 20) then Michelle went back on the pill but got pregnant and miscarried. A Chrisitan doctor who they spoke to about this and after reading the small print, they found that while taking the pill you can get pregnant and then miscarry and as Christians they felt their selfish actions had taken their child away. They prayed and asked God to forgive them and to bless them with as many children as He saw fit in His timing.
After this Michelle went on to have Jana & John-David, (twins) 18; Jill, 16; Jessa, 15; Jinger, 14; Joseph, 13; Josiah, 11; Joy-Anna, 10; Jedidiah & Jeremiah (twins), 9; Jason, 7; James, 6; Justin, 5; Jackson, 3; Johannah, 2; Jennifer, 9 months (and #18 due in January 2009!)
Can you imagine naming all your children with the one initial or would you chose different letters??

Congratulations to the Duggars! They're doing a better job raising 18 kids than many people with 1,2, or 3. We have friends who raised 12 children in an LDS family and, consequently, raised 12 responsible, home & God-loving adults, who now have families of their own and are amazingly loving and self-sufficient.
If more people were like the Duggars and my friends, whether one chose to have a large family or small, at least the children would be raised to be moral and productive, God-fearing and God-loving citizens, instead of the neurotic, immoral masses and criminally-motivated uncared-for kids now being 'raised' across this country.

My wife is a labor and delivery nurse and she loves babies, but when they equal the number of a football team its time to get a new hobby. Each child is a gift from God and I'm glad that God wants to bless them more than me. She should be a surrogate for those who can't have kids. The Dr.s wont tell her to stop having kids, they want to be part of history.

I just saw the show last night or the night before where they had the little baby jennifer. All I can say is wow. I know they do not believe in birth control, but 18 kids. I guess she must be okay because the doctors have not told her to stop yet. Maybe they will stop at 20. I will say the kids are very well behaved and mature for their age. Everythime the show comes on I have to watch it. Even if I have seen it before 10 times. WOW! 18 kids.

I have watched thier show before. I know that I could never do it. I have two kids and I love them with all my heart but I could not be a good Mom with a huge lot of them like the Duggars. She runs a fantastic organized home. They love and care for each and every one of them. If they can care for them and provide for them Im happy for them and I hope they have kids until they no longer can. I would love to be that good of a Mom.

Wow!
I saw their show on tv once. I believe they were going on vacation and they visited another really large family along the way. I remember the mom's sharing tips on how to run such a big household.
To each their own! As long as they are healthy and happy and the children are taken care of...
I know that I would be half-crazed if it were me.

I cannot imagine a body coping with the birth of that many children, she must have really good muscles and her body must be made for childbirth. I had 4 and the health problems that I have had from having 4 have been awful.
I think it is brilliant that they are not on benefits, I know of families in the UK that have caused controversy by having loads of children and then supporting them all through the government and not even bothering to go out to work. Having 18 kids is not for me, but if they are happy then I wish them all the best with it all!!
