I see a lot of beautiful yards around town. Complete with lawn furniture, yard decorations, plants in pots, and bird feeders. Ppl spend good money to decorate their yards and make them the way they want them. Of course you generally have your random items too…garden hose, trashcans, watering cans and such. Too many times I’ve seen where ppl have torn up these things or outright stolen them. My oldest Brother bought two wood and metal benches (like what’s in the picture) and put them on either side of his porch. One day while he was in doing dishes a pickup truck stopped and someone jumped out, grabbed a bench and jumped back in the truck. His bench was long gone by the time he got outside. It’s terrible that ppl would do something like that. Now, ages ago, a certain person I know (she won’t let me say who) went out drinking and partying and ended up stealing trash cans…complete with trash still in them. The things ppl do when they’re liquored up LOL Have you ever had your yard items stolen? Have you ever stolen or busted up someone else’s? Would you admit to it? Why do you suppose ppl do it? **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I did have a rocking chair on my front porch stolen from me one day.. It had been on my porch for a long time and no one had ever bothered it.. I had used it to rock my son when he was a baby.. We went to the grocery store one day and when we came home, we went to put the groceries up and then I made a cup of coffee and went to the front porch to sit and rock for awhile.. Well, it was gone, we hadn't even noticed it when we cam in with the groceries but did when I went to sit down in it.. It broke my heart as I hoped that one day my son would be rocking his kids in it.. But some greedy, lazy good for nothing, who couldn't work and get their own rocker came and stole mine.. I can't stand a thief, can you tell.. No, I have never nor would I ever steal something from someone else's yard or home.. I also watched a tv show that showed some of the things that you mentioned.. There was a man who had been having items disappear from his garage and he put in a video camera, the thieves were caught on tape, they just nonchalently walked up to his open garage door and took his tools and left like there was nothing wrong with what they were doing.. I was so glad that he had the camera

No we are very lucky...We never get anything stolen from us...My bench out front is solid concrete, they might get a hernia if they tried lifting it..We really have a pretty good neighborhood,no thieves, thank God...I have some rod iron wagon wheels that i am planing to put out but i will chain them down, even though we have not had thieves,i would not take any chances...I am really not sure where you live but we live right in a suburb of Houston Texas, people will shoot you here if you fool around in their yard,so even if i were a theif i would not relish getting shot at...Its a shame how people steal...

Nope.....to both. I have never stolen or busted up something that someone has because I know how hard it was to work for the money to buy them...even when I was younger. My parents instilled in me the respect of other people's property. I haven't had anything taken either. Yet!

we once had someone steal our trash cans with the trash in them before when i was a kid, my parents couldn't believe it!! at our house though we haven't had any problems from anybody stealing stuff except our inlaws who come over and take whatever they want whenever they want. We don't really leave anything nice outside, and I'd be kind of delighted if they would take some of the stuff away! (We have a desk my mother in law won't let us throw out or give away but we don't want and she won't take it to her house.) i'd be THRILLED if someone took that off my porch!

Hi Icy-a lot of people tend to do it my way too but its mainly teenagers some peoples gardens are beautiful then get wrecked by them-its awful and can't understand the mentality of people who do it specially when drunk I know I never would or could find it in me to do that-littleowl

I've never had anything stolen from my front porch. Maybe it's the neighbourhood I live in, but I can leave all kinds of things sitting around and nobody will ever take it. The big exception to that is bicycles. Toronto has the worst rate of bicycle theft! People chain them up inside fenced back yards and they still get stolen.

One time my mother give me one of her hanging baskets that had a huge, beautiful plant in it. We hung it on the front porch and it stayed there for a long long time then one morning it was gone. I have never bothered anything in anyone's yard. I would never even think of it. I am not sure if people who do those things are just mean, jealous or think they have to have it and can't afford to go buy their own.

Well it's wrong, no matter what, but to steal a bench? That is ridiculous! Ok, I can see the whole drunk and stupid thing, but have some respect! I have been fortunate to never have anything stolen from my yard, but when I was younger, I used to go rollerskating every week. One day, my mom took me shoe shopping and I got my first pair of Nikes. (I was just a kid) I wore them straight from the shoe store to the roller rink and when I was leaving, my brand new shoes were missing! I had to go home in my socks! I was so upset! I can only imagine how it would feel to find your lawn decorations missing. Some are not cheap!

I live in a neighborhood where people ask if they can have something if they see you aren't using it. Like if you have a roll of wire sitting in your side yard, they call you up and ask you if they can have it. Most people will give you what they don't use. But to steal nice things, most people where I live have more honor than that, it's why I'm glad I moved here.

I destroyed someones fake deer they had in their yard by accident once. It was around 3 AM and I had just turned 14. I shouldn't have been out of the house in the first place let alone driving someones car but I was. I was coming down this long country road full of hair pin 10 MPH turns and not paying too much attention. Upon coming out of a turn I spotted a deer not 20 feet in front of me that looked like it was about to step out onto the road. Being a young unlicensed inexperienced driver, I panicked and instead of hitting the brakes (which was foot was already on considering the hill I had just come down) I switched my foot over to the gas and stamped on it expecting to come to a complete stop. Nope. I went from 15 to 45 MPH in what felt like a second and only regained my composure after I had splinter the poor lawn ornament. People should be forbidden from putting wild life lawn ornaments out when they live in the country. And anyone who has pink flamingos in their yard that doesn't live in FL needs to be sent to a week long decorating camp taught by Martha Stewart!

That's too bad about your friend's bench. Imagine!! I've never stolen from someone's yard thank goodness.. not even such good bounty as a full trash can! Like your friend.. Some friends and I did pilfer from some gardens years ago (age 18).. we were sooo broke and a little hungry.. is my only excuse.. but I think of it every year when I'm getting a harvest from our garden!

Yes. We had a garden ornament - a gazing ball and pedestal - from our back yard. We put it in the back yard because we thought it would be safer there. It can't be seen from the street. But even more disheartening was the year someone stole the Christmas tree from the entryway of a senior housing apartment house. No one needs a Christmas tree that badly. We figure both instances were kids/teens, since there obviously was no money value to the items taken. I guess they do it for kicks. They don't care how it affects the owners. Sad.

I live in a small town, so news of repeatative vandalism travels fast. A couple of years ago we had a rash of thefts, people were stealing wind chimes off of peoples porches. I was very upset but fortunately none of mine were touched. I have a really neat chime that has metal Kokopelli's on it. It is my favorite and I would have been seriously upset if it would have disappeared. I have bought or received wind chimes that I won't hang outside because the kids are getting worse as generations go on. I know because I know who did it last time, and they were actually all returned, it was just a prank but there is no guarantee for the next time.

I've heard some ppl complain about this but never had anything stolen from my yard. We were out junk-looking one night a few years ago and saw a bike sitting next to some garbage. We sat there trying to figure out if the ppl were throwing it away or if their kid just left it sitting there. We ended up taking the bike but I had mixed feelings about it for days afterwards being the bike wasn't in too bad shape at all. My daughter used it for several years till she outgrew it. By then, it was ready to be scrapped.

I have been lucky that I've not had anything stolen from my yard. Some of my neighbors have. I've never taken anything from anybodies else's yard. And, if I had I don't know if I'd admit it or not!

I've worked very hard at making my yard and garden look nice. It drives me wild when things go missing and they always seem to go missing the nights the local teenagers are having a bush party. I find i'm less likely to leave the pretties and nice things out infront of the house in view of the road I keep them back in my "back" yard out of public veiw but where i can enjoy them more from my deck.
