Yeast?

Well in a few discussions lately people have been talking about home made bread. Oh it sounds so good, so I decided I wanted to try to make some myself. I've only ever used a bread machine, but the yeast for that is $5, yikes!
Well, I found myself a recipe and while grocery shopping I picked up the ingredients.
Now I get to the yeast, and see there's 2 different kinds. Active dry yeast, and rapid rise.
I didn't know what the heck to do, so I bought a package of both!
Can someone explain what's the difference and which one I want to use?

I love bread, but the whole hye about machines and yeast is really a terrifying thought. Heres something you might enjoy being a afrikaans south african i grew up with real 'plaas brood' a old recipe that you can add what you like to and it impresses the hell out of your mates. you use 500ml buttermilk, 500g self raising flour and 2 eggs mix together and bake for 45 minutes in oven at 180C. this is the base you can add whatever you like into the mixture seeds nuts cheese etc. it worth a try Ive always been complimented on my breads.... give it a go.

Self rising flour, hadn't thought of that, it would defeat the need for yeast. Thanks for the tip. I'll keep it in mind for next time.

I am not sure but I know that I have a pack of one or the other in my cabinet now.. I was in hopes of making some homemade bread for the family but there doesn't seem to be enough hours in a day.. Hope someone can help you as I will be reading the responses, that is how I learn a lot on here.. Good luck and hope your bread turns out great..
