Fork It!

Okay when we go out to a nice restaraunt the setting consists of a sald fork, a dinner fork, a sppon, a knife, and possibly a soup spoon. My question is at home do you have a silverware set with the salad forks, soup spoons etc? Do you set the table using all these eating utensils or not? I have the set with all the oddities. I use all the forks just not the salad and dinner fork together. Some seetings may have the larger dinner fork and others the salad fork. The soup sppons are my favorites. I use them for everything including stirring coffee and tea. I hate the tiny little teaspoons. So do you "fork it?" HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I am afraid that I am an uncultured, uncouth plebian in this matter AGB! We have one type of fork, one type of spoon and don't even have steak knives, then again we rarely eat steak! lol I know what you mean about teaspoons though sweets - they annoy me! xxx

When my brother and sis-in-law visted a few years ago we had some meat that needed cutting and I gave her a butcher knife. She laffed asking for a steak knife. I don't have any. So she mailed us a nice set of steak knives and I love them. I even bought a butcher block to store them in. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM AGB!!~

GP Bob, My favorite is the sugar spoon, I use it to eat my cereal, soup ice cream or anything else you spoon. I eat everything else with a salad fork. My hands are not small but they are slender so the salad fork feels better to me than the bigger ones. The only time a I use the butter knife is to butter toast, or make a banana sandwich, or spread condiments. As for doing a proper setting, no we are just country in my house.

OMG---- No I don't set all the forks and spoons--- 1 of each- and yes I have the whole set as well--- using them all means more dishes- and I hate to wash utensils! I do love going out to restaurants with all the silverware though- It makes it more special. My daughter will set the table this way from time to time- like tomorrow for Mother's Day- she is too cute.

I have the whole silverware set, but never set the table with all of it unless it's a nice dinner like Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner. Usually everyone around here fills their plate at the stove and they get whatever silverware they want. We've gotten so casual. Years ago, when we had a bunch of kids at home, I set the table every night with knife, spoon and one fork, napkin and even serving dishes. Times sure change.

My mom bought me a silverware set for Chrismtas that had the salad forks in it plus the soup spooon and you normal knife, fork and spoon but I don't set the table at home that way. I used to work at a Country Club and the silverware was always set like that.

I'm not fancy at all and never use salad forks and all the 'extras'. If you can't eat it with a plain old fork and spoon, I don't eat it! I've noticed that most men will use a tablespoon instead of a teaspoon, so I guess you're the norm there. I prefer the smaller one since I don't have a very big mouth (vocally, yes, but anatomically, no!). For some reason I will use a spoon more often than a fork unless I'm having something that actually needs cut and poked with a fork (or spaghetti, which needs twirling!). I think most things just stay better in the bowl of a spoon.

I like the bigger spoons as I can get more on it and into my mouth before Buster sees it and wants to beg for some. I also eat with a spoon more often than with a fork. pasta etc gets eaten with a spoon even by me. I am wierd. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!`

I am not fancy at all, just a fork and a spoon if needed and a knife. I like the teaspoons for tea and coffee, after that I prefer the soup spoons as well.

Oh I have all types of forks, salad, dinner, you name it. But they are scattered in my utensil drawer and no matter what I am eating, I grab whatever fork I see in the drawer. Even if that means I am about to eat a steak and end up grabbing a salad fork for it :)So yeah I don't separate my forks, spoons or whatever and end up using whatever one I first find no matter what I eat :)

We just grab what we're going to use for that meal. When I was growing up, my step-mother always wanted the full setting. Well, at least the knife, fork and spoon. I had to set them in the proper places and the kinfe had to be facing the right way. I have no clue how they're suppsed to go now, it's not really that important to me.

I am a real slob as I just use an ordinary knife, fork and spoon no salad fork or soup spoon altho I have been guilty of using a soup spoon for a lot of otherthings. I sometimes use a salad fork just for fun as I do love my salads. For thing I always eat along so nobody to see me lol. my son eats at work andis home late in the evening. I really do enjoy cookingfor myself. After I had broken my shoulder I was in the hospital for four days then because I was eighty they insisted Ihad to go to Care house for several weeks. what a waste of money and it was a dreadful place.they are now fighting being charged with negligent patient care.anyway their opinion was that I could not cook for myself which was stupid.what has age got to do with cooking. after my dreadful stint at Care house I still had to cook for myself and that was just fine. I love to cook and had been used to doing for myself all my adult life. the physical therapist was aghast You mean you have noone to cook for you. I said no and she was going to send a nurse.,I vetoed that at once.I have one good arm and I will cook my own meals thank you anyway. Not all older people are helpless or senile lol.

I have a silverware set...most of the pieces are sitting in the cabinet in it's package watching me and probably are begging to be used... I only have a few spoons and forks out which my dad and I use when we are eating. He loves to eat anything with a spoon and i love to eat anything with a fork. We usually just grab one when we take our food. We rarely have company over for dinner, so I don't think I've ever set a table in my life!

I have the set with all of the pieces, but do not set the table using all of them.. I do like a matching set of silverware, so when the most used forks and spoons have been lost, and I honestly do not know where they go, I go on to the next size of spoon and fork.. I will use these until I have no more spoons nor forks and then will have to purchase another set.. I am not so up on etiquette that I even care to know what each utensil is for, I do know what a fork, any size, is for and that is what I use it for, eating..

No, we only use either a fork or a spoon, but never both. We really don't set the table either. I normally just grab the plates or bowls, depending on what we are eating, and fix everyone's plate, adding a spoon or fork.

Nope we just use the dinner fork and knife and only put out the spoons if we are having soup and sorts. I use teespoons for stirring our coffee, milo and tea.

Okay, I'm a small person, I have a little mouth, I like to use the salad fork and the little teaspoon to eat with. My roomie is a larger person, she likes to use the larger spoons and forks. Set the table, heck, we barely eat at the table, we fix our plates and head off for our computers!

I use the same fork for eating the rest of my dinner as I did for eating my salad. It makes no sense to me to get both dirty. I also prefer the bigger spoons over the teaspoons for most things.

No I don't put out all of those utensils. I only use a fork and knife, usually. I very seldom have the need for a spoon, only when I am eating home made soup. I don't set the table anymore unless I am having company over for dinner. Othewise it's just my daughter and I and so we just fix our plates in the kitchen and carry them to the table in the dining room. But even if I have company over for dinner I don't put out all those utensils like in a restaurant. When I am in a restaurant I don't end up using most of the utensils they give us, anyways. No need to, in my opinion.

LOL! I have regular dinner forks only, I have no idea what happened to my salad forks. I don't have one set of silverware though, I have some that I bought in pieces, like a pack of 5 or 6 forks, a pack of 5 or 6 spoons, etc. Interestingly enough too, we do not have a kitchen or dining room table, what would be considered my 'dining room' has been walled off and turned into my daughter's playroom. Needless to say, I don't set the table. My favorite spoons are the long handled iced tea spoons, I actually found them on e-bay. My kids are famous for taking silverware to a place where it never sees the light of day again, and when I went from 8 iced tea spoons down to NONE, I got irked and had to go find more. I use them for all sorts of things, and my glasses are huge tall 24 oz ones so if you have to mix anything, you need the long handle to keep your fingers out of the drink!
