Well most of my friends know about some of the achievements and exploits of my 6 year old daughter Niamh and I was very proud of her yesterday. The week before we got an invitation to the opening of a schools art exhibition at our local university - it was invitation only and there were 'artworks' exhibited from every local Primary School (5-12 year olds) in the whole region. The opening of this Artsfest exhibition was by invitation only and the exhibition then opens to the public for a few weeks. She didn't like the picture that was exhibited as she has done better but the specialist art teacher for the school had chosen this one to go forward so she just had to make do with it - the art teacher kept telling us that Niamh was very arty and a pleasure to work with, she is sure that Niamh will be very talented as she grows up. I have no idea where she gets that from as neither Dad or I are any good at art - although as with reading I have always made sure she has art and craft things and gets to use them! I just wanted to share this with you all and to ask if you or your children have ever had anything in an exhibition like this? How did you feel? Am I just being too proud of my daughter? Oh yes and for all of you guys celebrating Mothers Day out there - have a good one! xxx

And so you should be right pleased with her, the picture is brilliant, and I laughed because already she's a critic of her own work at 6! Yes I can see some great times ahead of her, if she's talented at 6 can you imagine all that talent when she's 16! She looked so bonnie in that dress, a little cherub and to be invited to an exhibition at 6, well that is amazing I hope you kept the invitation so you can show it to her when she gets older. I was never talented like that at school and I couldn't draw to save my life, even now I am hopeless at art, any art. Well done Niamh you have made your mum so very very happy and proud. Thanks for sharing xxxx

You should be very very proud of your daughter, show her off to every one children thrive on praise. Give her all the encoragement to keep trying, Each one of my four children had something special about them, my daughter it was maths, the eldest boy music he can play any instument, the next he loves landscape gardening, the youngest is a footballer, he plays for a big city team. Im not alowed to say witch one, he hates me bigging him up lol. I know if I didnt big them up they wouldnt have thought they could have got this fare, so be a PROUD parent your daughter will go far. Keep happy.

Isn't it funny how the very thing that encourages them when they are younger embarrasses them when they are a bit older? lol I too believe in encouragement and praise going a long way - and I always try to do that with both my kids , we shall see if it works soon enough! My eldest is 14 and although is a smart, caring and good lad he is at that stage where everything you say to him is wrong! lol I had to ask Niamh for permission to post this as she was quite embarrased when she found out about the reading in the bath post and I didn't want to upset her! lol Sounds like you have done a great job with all of your kids and you are quite rightly very proud of them all! Go on tell me which team your youngest plays for - I am in a really nosey mood today ! Pm me

Congratulations to your daughter. It is nice to have a talent. My daughter is seven and has recently been published for her artwork. It makes us mums very proud and it is something to look back on in the future. I can't draw for toffees neither can my husband but obviously the talent comes from somewhere, I think my grandfather who was a keen artist who I likened to Lowry.

Wow your grandfather must have been good and it is great that your daughter inherited this talent! My son and my niece have a certain degree of ability with art but it is more on the engineering /architecture side than anything else! I have no idea yet where my Niamh developed this from! Isn't it great when your kids do special things? From one proud mum to another I want to welcome you to Mylot and say I hope you have a great time here! xxx

You´ve got reason enough to feel proud. She has a treasure, which is her talent and her work has already been exposed. That´s great. Her attitude towards her artwork reminds me of my daughter. She loves drawing and has always been very critical with her work. Others could praise it, she was hardly ever satisfied with it.
Reminds me of myself, I used to be exactly the same when I was a kid.
I always felt very proud of her talent, I think it´s normal, just means that we are happy that our kids have this special gift which means happyness and sense of achievement to them.
Congrats to your beautiful daughter :-)
A big hug to a very modest mother!

Of course you are not being too proud. I think it is great that Niamh has such a God given talent and that you are supporting and encouraging her. You are being a mother to be proud of and I am sure Niamh knows that and loves you.

You know whiteheather you have really touched me with this response - I thank you from the bottom of my heart! You know what is so spooky is today she made me a card telling me I was the best mum in the world and she loved me - we had mothers day in March and she didn't know it was Mothers Day in America and Canada! xxxx

How exciting. But what a shame Niamh cannot enter the picture of her choice. My girls did not excel at anything while at school although one was very artistic. She simply did not have the motivation to work at her skill or craft...so sad because she had a talent. She was simply not interested in anything that resembled work....
You can never be too proud of your children Mo. Bless you my friend and give Niamh a hug from Tickle please.

It is a shame when your children have talent and don't want to use it honey - I am sure that they have their own strengths and qualities. You know how pleased Niamh is going to be when I give her a hug from you - don't you? Perhaps it will calm her down - her friend comes around at 7 tomorrow morning and she wants to be up and ready before her friend gets here so they can play - she will probably make me login to show her your avatar! lol xxx

That is awesome mummymo. Isn't it wonderful when you see them do things like this.
My son's artwork has been posted up in the local public library and the post offices. I think most schools do this. He loves arts and crafts especially painting and I think he gets it from my side. My brother is an artist on the side and my Uncle paints as well and exhibits his works in New Zealand and Hawaii. He is also a well known Pacific Island writer.
I am always proud when he does something like this and achieves great things in school and love sharing it with everyone.
Thanks for sharing to us about Niamh and I hope she continues to do art throughout her school life :)

Her art work is brilliant. Good work, Niamh. I enjoy art very much myself. I hope she continues to enjoy it and to show that talent she has already. You should be very proud, Mo.

Thanks you sweetheart! You know I had to ask her if I could do this post as she sometimes gets embarrased when she finds out I have said things here about her! I do hope she continues to enjoy art as I am not very good at helping her - I can provide the materials and do funny things but not artistic at all! lol Hugs xxx

You have everything to be proud about Mummymo. Niamh getting into that exhibition is fantastic. She's clearly already going places - such maturity - thought that she had a better painting to enter. LOL. Now that's the sign of someone confident. Have you a photo of the piece that you could put up on your Profile or somewhere. I'd love to see it. I hope that she keeps it up. Well done her. Hugs all round I think. HUGS.

LOL I do that all the time sweety! The monsters are a Brontosaurus and a pterodactyl - she was learning about dinosaurs when she did that picture! Did you know the Brontosaurus was a long neck and that it had a very small head - it would eat foliage off trees and shrubs and had to eat allo the time to keep it from getting hungry? These are some of the things she told me yesterday! lol Hugs to you my darling! xxx

Of course you are being overly proud of your daughter... You are MUM, you are suppose to be. Heck remember when they were babies and all they had to do was pee-pee and we were proud and excited? My middle son is the talent in our family, you probably remember from one of Sissy's discussions our first run in with his talent, he used his own green poop as the paint.. LMAO.
He has never had anything in an exhibit other than like science and fair projects, but there are alot of folks now sporting his particular brand of art on their bodies. Once Mo I had commissioned a local artist to do a chalk for me as a special gift for a friend. This was before I knew how talented Mark Shane really was. After I got the picture back that I paid for, (it was of dancing frogs), I was a little disappointed. Mark Shane was about 12 then. He said mom let me give it a try, he had drawing pads and chalks, so he set about drawing this picture.... His was ten times better than the one I had, had made.
I bought him the canvas and chalks needed for the the gift, the end product that I had framed and sent as a gift was my own Sons.
So yes mame we have a right to be overly proud of what some people might think of as a mundane event... To us moms it is the grandest achievement on earth... and Mo, it just might be!
BTW Thank you for the happy mothers day. I had a great day indeed.

Good grief angel you are right! lol I do remember even them giving a big sigh in their sleep was exciting!
I think it is great that our little Picasso moved on from his first medium of art - the green poo may have made him a fortune but boy would it have stunk! I wouldn't think that gift was mundane - specially when Mark did such a great job of it! I think it is wonderful that he is so talented and even I am proud of him!
So glad you enjoyed Mothers Day sweet - you deserve it!
Hugs xxxx

Although I have artistic qualities, I cannot draw. I like crafts, painting, beadwork, scrapbooking etc. My 11 year old son can draw though and I have thought about putting him in a school for the arts. This year his art was chosen to be displayed in one of the Phoenix art museums. The only problem was the display was only shown in those hours I had to be at work, so I didn't get to go and see it. I was very dissapointed. I can hear your pride and think it is well deserved. Congratulations to you and your daughter. Give her a big mylot hug from all of us. Happy Mother's Day.

Oh my sweety another new avatar! lol It is really pretty! I am so sorry that you missed seeing his art displayed - I can imagine how horrible that was for you - if it helps I bet he will be exhibited again and this time you will get to see it and the time after, and after! I will give her an extra hug in the morning sweety! xxx

Hi Mummymo My kids did not have anything in an
exhibit when they were little. but my son was in his '
late teens and entered the photography section of
our fair, and won best of show four times in a row
for his photographs, I was very proud of him.
My husband and I won second prize in a garden display
at the county fair that same year. we were so proud
of our hundred dollar gift certificate that year.

Aw thanks Breath! I can't do much physically so I love to encourage them with things and support them any way I can! She says she wants to be a blood doctor when she grows up (her words - she is fascinated by blood) I just hope she doesn't combine that with her art - could get gruesome! lol I bet your daughter is really cute too! xxx
