Afer three of my own baby showers and several for my family and friends, I have this whole baby shower thing down. Here are my tips for the best baby shower games to play:
1. GUESS HOW MANY- Fill a baby bottle with small candies (M&Ms). As each guest arrives, have them write down on a piece of paper their guess for how many candies are in the bottle. Near the end of the shower, check the papers and see who guessed the closest. The winner keeps the bottle of candy.
2. DON'T SAY...- Pick a word that everyone will want to say a lot at the shower (baby gift, shower). As guests arrive, stick a safety pin to their shirt and tell them the special word that cannot be said. During the shower, when somebody says the forbidden word, whoever calls them on it first gets their pin. By the end of the shower, whoever has the most pins wins a prize.
3. HOW FAT IS SHE?- Give each guest the chance to guess how many squares of toilet paper it would take to wrap around the pregnant mommy's belly. Have everyone write it down and test it out. Closest guess wins the prize.
4. HOW WELL DO YOU WADDLE?- Give everyone the chance to experience this fun pregnancy symptom. Make it a race. Two guests at a time must race from a starting line to finish...with a balloon between their legs. Winners take on winners until their is only one winner left.
5. WHAT DID THE BABY EAT?- Buy a couple bags of the assorted variety of mini candy bars. Melt different ones in baby diapers (use the microwave, but for a very short amount of time. It doesnt take long.). Do this right before the party starts. Fold the diapers as if they were on the baby and give one to each guest. Let them open their dirty diapers and smell or taste what's inside. Each guest can try and guess what the baby ate!
6. FOOD TESTER- Remove the labels from several jars of baby food, assorted varieties. (be sure to put numbers on the labels and then on the jars, so as not to confuse which is which) Give each guest a tasting stick for each jar. Let everyone dip their sticks and taste the foods. Have them all write down what they think is in each jar and the one with the most correct wins.
7. NURSERY RHYMES- Print out sheets with the titles to nursery rhymes. See which guests can remember the most words to the most songs.
8. BABY JUMBLE- Print out sheets with words associated with baby, all jumbled up. See who unscrambles them all first.
9. WHERE'S THE BABY?- Hide a tiny plastic baby inside the cake. Whoever gets the piece with the baby wins the prize. (make sure your baby isn't too small, so no one chokes!)
10. DROP THE PIN- Have each guest take turns holding a pin up near their chin and dropping it into a baby bottle on the floor. Whoever can actually do this will probably win. If more than one person manages to do it, have them compete back and forth until someone loses.
These are just a few ideas. Along with these games, there are other cute things you can do. For example, have a large blanket especially for the occassion. Throughout the party, let every guest sign it and leave any advice they might have. Also, some ideas for prizes: candles, gift baskets, soaps, lotions, picture frames, journals, stationary, candy, and potpourri. These are cute little gifts that don't cost and arm and a leg.
Good luck and congrats!
