.... a nineteen year old man today went to fill up his car with gas near Baltimore,Maryland. He was filling up the tank because his wife was in labor with their first child. As he was walking in the gas station office to pay a robber pulled a knife on him and stabbed him when he resisted to give him his gas money. The man died on the same day his only child was born. That's sad.Yes,there was some robberies and crime before, but it has gone up since the gas prices have gone up.It has caused food as well of other things going up.Everything except our wages. The majority of these robberies have happened at gas stations too. What do you think?Do you think that crime rates will go down if the gaqs prices go down?

i think the crime rates will continue to go up until they change the prison systems back to the way they were ages ago. when it wasnt just a country club with bars on the windows. three square a day.. bed to sleep in.. full scale gym.. cable tv.. free healthcare and the opportunity to earn a masters degree on the tax payers money. whats really to deter them from committing crimes.. when the punishment is the equivalent to a stay at the local Y ? chain a few of em in a dark damp stone cell. with rats to fight with for the moldy bread yer given to eat.. see how many run into a convenince store and kill someone for gas money then.

exactly! ive known far too many who would make a carreer out of committing just the "right" crime to wind up locked up during the winter months.. theyd get out just in time for summer.. crash on peoples couches during the good weather so they could hang at the beach and get drunk with their welfare checks they got for their rewards for being a convict.. and then do something thatd get em sent to Club Med on a free ticket until the followng summer. personally.. i think if they stopped worrying so much about the so-called humane treatment of those who act inhumanely.. and focused more on protecting those who work hard for a living.. the world would be a nicer place.

there was a movie a while back called No Escape starring Ray Liotta.. the basic premise was that criminals.. violent criminals.. were taken and just dumped on an island. they had to build their own shelters.. find their own food.. etc. and no one had to pay for their upkeep or luxery comforts, because there werent any. im starting to think it wouldnt be such a horrible idea.

I don't see the relationship with gas prices. The robber is taking money that is for gas and everything else besides. The robber is not going to just take the cost of a tank full and give the change back! It is more a reflection on today's society. Such a sad story.

You got it.Some people cannot work harder.Like myself I am partially handicapped and cannot physically obtain more work. There are some people I know cannot find a job.Iam trying to earn online so I can afford to get a car and pay off bills, but Iam not earning fast enough.I could suggest that to people, but they do not have a computer.I did not have a computer for quite awhile because mine broke and I did not have the money for one.Right now I got this cheap one and Iam wondering when it is going to die on me.My oldest son's computer broke and he needs it for his work.I believe it was a close friend that's father fixed it.My other son does not have a computer.

Ah. I see where you are coming from now. You are saying that in the US when prices go up and people run out of money they turn to violent crime to get it rather than work harder.

I don't know that they will go down on gas prices alone. It will have to be everything. People are getting desperate.

See,when the gas prices went up the prices of food and everything else went up because it cost to deliver them more so the other companies had to raise their prices. If the gas prices go down, then so can everything else.

It's doomsday indeed. We all need to pull together to significantly reduce the demand for oil. That ought to teach OPEC that they do not control the world! In this situation though I think it would have been wiser to just give the money, take a good look at the robber's face and license plates, then report it to the police. It's not worth losing one's life for a few bucks. I will offer a prayer for the victim. I also hope the robber is arrested and gets what he deserves.

That is so very sad. I think the gas prices are causing so many problems for everybody. I can see people having to steal to get food and gas. I do think the crime rate will go down once the economy is back on the right track.

Yes, I can see where crime rates will go up with the increase in gas prices. There are more people stealing gas from cars, there are also more gas n go's. Thats where people pull up to the pump, fill up and then drive off. Right there is an increase in crime and we know that is happening. Gas prices are hurting all of us, something really needs to be done.

In the news here they have reported how, there are a number of car's where the gas was sifined from somes cars.People had got caps with a lock for added security. But,that did not stop the thieves a few cars gas caps wer remove with the aide of a screwdriver. One car was damaged much worse.A hole was put in the body thru to the tanks and sifined from there.

I don't know if they will go down but I think crimes will continue to go up if the price of gas doesn't go down. I had a lawn mower stole a little over a week ago and usually things are pretty safe around here.

it would be nice if they did but I'm not sure. i think somebody will still find a reason to want to kill someone or steal . As sad as it all is. i feel really bad for this man's wife and new child.

I feel that crime will increase as prices rise..It tends to make some people who are pron to crime worse...Normal people i do not feel it will cause them to commirt crimes..The people who are a little on the mental will probably throw them over the edge..What a shame..

Amen to that, just what I said, people with morales it won't effect them to commit crimes, but those with no or low morals will be more apt to commit crimes then they were even before.

In all fairness, higher gas prices don't CAUSE crime. Stupidity leads to crime. I am skeptical that the crime rate has, indeed, been increasing. I would need to see some numbers.

Putting 2 and 2 together.... "Gas prices are not just causing economic problems...." ....crime rate increasing... It seems like that's what you DID say. But alright. If you didnt you didn't.

Hi dfollin, I don't believe that gas prices have a lot to do with the crime rate, except as it affects the price of other things. Getting robbed is one thing, getting murdered is quite another. Some people will steal when times are tough, but few will murder. We can only hope that things will get better. Blessings.

This is a sad story. But even if the price of gas goes down, the price of food won't. I know a family now that goes into the store dumpsters to be able to have a meal once a day! Nothing is really wrong with the food, dented cans, expired bread, but for someone to be able to feed thier family this way is sad also. Crime will always be there.

Like I said, crime was there, but now it is up higher. The price of food would go down,(or should go down). The price of food and other items are higher now because the distributors charge the stores more because it cost them more to deliver it.

That's really sad. People are always trying to get something for nothing. Robbing people is their so called way of life. I don't know if gas prices are making the crime rate go up, but that's something to look into. It's hard to say if gas goes down so might crime. It could I suppose, but I really have no idea.
