This is ABSOLUTELY the last discussion I am going to post....

on the subject of star ratings. LMBO! Now, I know that this post isn't going to make any difference. Everyone will continue to lament about the decrease and the increase in their star ratings. After all, it does make for a good discussion. Its something we can all relate to. I have cried about my star rating in the past, but I won't do it again and I'll tell you why. My friends are my friends, NO MATTER WHAT! They don't care what my star rating is. They answer to my discussions whether my star is red, yellow, silver, pink or neon. Those that don't want to answer to my discussions, just don't. They either aren't my friend or if they can't relate to what I'm saying they just politely pass it by. And in the larger scheme of things, no matter what my star rating it doesn't make me less of a person, less of a parent, less of a cook, less of an employee, you get the picture......The star ratings mean NOTHING!!!!! So don't get you knickers in a twist. All of this is meant to be good fun. A site where we can come together as a community and share our lives, our loves, our dissapointments and speak with intelligence and heart. So come on everyone, let it go. I have. Because I came to realize it doesn't change my life or the love I have for all the friends I have here on mylot. Gotta run to work. Everyone have a wonderful day. Now who has something positive to say? Just wanted to share my thoughts.

You almost got me with the title of this discussion! I think people here at myLot have every right to get frustrated with their ratings. This is true especially for those who have really worked hard for the red and the elusive blue stars. I also felt very bad when I saw my rating going down. Later on, I realized that life here at myLot is not just all about those stars. I have become more appreciative of the other things I get from myLot like the new people I meet here and the friendships I have developed with the members. I do agree with you my friend, this site is meant for us to come together as a community to share different things. Take care kbourgerie!

The title of my discussion was supposed to get people's attention. I cared about my star at first too, but when it went down, it didn't stop anyone from being my friend, in fact, it caused them to support me all the more.

Well... I am glad you got that out of the way... I had many arguments about the star rating on mylot. And I have been telling people for a year that it does not work. I even thought I was going to get ban... after telling "Crash" the moderator... that his system did not work. The reason it does not work... is because people forget to rate discussions... or cannot be bother rating them. But they never forget to give someone a minus when they don't like something.

Why give someone a minus if you don't like something? Because some people are more pathetic than some other. lol

LOL! Why give someone a minus if you don't like something? I have responded to discussions where I have an entirely different viewpoint and opinion than the OP - but it was because the OP was ASKING for different views. To me that would be a fun and challenging discussion, because you can banter back and forth with others about why you feel the way you do, and how you can understand each other, even if nobody changes their minds. I rate discussions like that positively because it takes courage to ask for information and viewpoints you may not like when you get them.

I have never thought anything of the star rating anyway, it was not even something that I thought about at all until everyone started making me notice it. I always only came on here for the people that I had met, and still meet. For the fun and the laughs that a discussion gave me, something which also disappeared once the star thing became an issue and plus the fact that I was learning about other peoples countries etc. That is what myLot is about, not about whose got 100 reputation or who has the most posts they are just immaterial, it is about the people and the things that we all share, our world outside the real world, a place of escape when a day has been bad. Have a good day at work, hope things are better there now, you were having some trouble not so long ago. x

Hi! I do agree with you that your friends will still be friends even if they dont respond to your discussions. The star rating really does not matter but I know that it has that unknown appeal. I think we wouldnt mind if even form the start we dont get any stars then we dont get any star at all for a lifetime but since it was given to you and you have started at a high rating then I guess it has that appeal to see that your name has a little twinkly colored star on the side with a number in it. I guess in my experience I dont mind if it goes up but if its gone down then there must be something wrong because it is a reputation after all. We can never really stop wondering if we have offended someone or not and being human we all want to please everyone. Personally I dont mind if it drops as long as the color doesnt change. Ive gotten used to my star and seeing it change either dropped or increased will make me get used to it with the new number and the new color again. Anyways, thats just me. If you've finally let go any attachment that you have or had with your star then congratulations. Have a nice day.^_^

I have let go of my star. I honestly don't care. I did at first when it fell, but as time has progressed I really in the bigger picture it doesn't mean a thing.

You get paid no matter what your star ratings is and your friends don't turn their backs on you. People really don't care one way or another what color your star is.

Hi, I agree with you to a point. I mean that mylotters put a lot of work into their reputation on here and so the rating is important in that aspect only. I stopped getting frustrated over my rating. I am a 7 and have remained a 7 for a few months now. I know by me getting in that little argument I got into on here did it, so I feel I did it to myself. I should have kept my mouth shut and just let things be and I'd still have my 10 star. The person I got in the argument had friends back him up on my discussion and so they are the one's that made me drop in ratings. I know this in my heart. I think the star rating should be abolished as it only hurts people's feelings when that beautiful blue 10 turns into a ugly silver 7 or worse! My friends are my friends, they like me for who I am, not what color star I have

I understand what you are saying about working for one's reputation, but honestly speaking its all in how you interact with others. There are always going to be those that go around rating people negatively out of spite or for whatever reason, but it doesn't make us less than because someone got a wild hair up their, well you get the idea.

i completely agree with what you are saying... the star ratings should not influence us that much and we shouldn't get too upset about it... it is only a star anyway... the friendship, knowledge and fun that we have here should be more important than the star... take care and have a nice day...

I also believe the same. the persons who are to answer you, will respond top your discussion whatever be the star rating. I am also victim of this star. But in my case it is still down at 6. it has not moved a bit also. But i think that it may be the reason that now i earn less also. again let me tell you after several days, today i am again able to figure in Mylot digest.

When I first saw the title of your post, I thought another member is about to quit myLot. I don't know why I see quite a number of people lamenting about their star ratings, particularly those who somehow experienced an overnight drop in their rating. I thought only school kids get a kick out of getting stars when they submit their work to be marked...LOL. But here, the star ratings can somehow affect people, and these people are adults, not kids. I think the star rating here only boosts one's ego, a kind of feel good thing to know that you have attained a certain star rating. Other than that, I don't see much value in this. Like you said, your friends are still your friends no matter what star you are at even if your star drops a notch, and that applies to us all as well. A higher star rating doesn't guarantee more responses, more friends nor more earnings. So like you said...the star ratings mean NOTHING. What's important are the friendships you have cultivated here, the value you bring in participating here and the sense of belonging you feel as part of being involved in this community, amongst others. When you feel positive about these things, you will just want to keep doing what you do here without being bothered by the star rating against your name.

That's the spirit many of us here take. If we enjoy being here, just keep posting and continue to do what we do here, and don't let the star rating bother you. By the way, when before I decide to respond to a discussion, I don't even look at the other person's star rating or even if he/she has a star to make my decision. I just post because the topic's interesting, and I have something to share. I guess many others do the same.

I don't think its going to make any of us quit posting no matter what our star is, so why complain about it?

You know, I used to think that when people became adults, they put the silly popularity contests behind them but I have been sadly mistaken and even cut off some friendships because of it. For some people, it will always be about impressing others or 'keeping up' and they easily get frustrated and jealous and then negative and mean in their dealings with other people as a result. Because I have a little one, I try very hard to stay away from people who treat me that way because I don't want her to learn to allow others to treat her that way. I really have not read into how the rating system even works here, I just assumed that if people like your discussions or responses, they rate lol. It's pretty obvious by discussions like these that people do not always do what is expected, and some even try purposely to do the wrong thing just because they can.

Katherine..since i saw this in my emails i really don't know what your star is at now and you don't know mine either, but i post to yours cause i know you will have something to discuss and you answer to mine... When i first came here and was told i'd get a star by my 100th post i was thrilled..don't know why since i hadn't had one from 1-99..but now i hardly look at it since i'm way past that number...I've met numerous people that have come to be new friends and talk here everyday to see whats new with all of you. I don't need no stinking badges..whoops star..LOL

As time progresses your star will more than likely go up and down. Pay it no attention. Just post good discussions, answer with thought and consideration and you'll make friends that won't care one way or another what your star is.

People are really upset about this, aren't they? I am fairly new to mylot and when I started, I HAD no rating! Within just 50-70 posts, suddenly I had a star. I have a friend who posts here also who says he has no idea how I manage to earn anything on here. I told him that you have to be active and have something to say. =) I actually don't care about the ratings, as every site I visit that includes things like ratings are so easy to throw. You are right, friends are friends no matter what the rating. I do rate responses and discussions, I believe I only rated one negatively and it was because I didn't like the fact that the discussion starter was using the discussion to attack somebody else without actually using their name. They probably thought a newbie wasn't going to catch that. =P This site IS fun, I admit that when I first heard about it a few months ago, I didn't know anybody that used it really, I just heard thru the grapevine (via other social network type sites) that there were too many trolls here lol! Anyway, sometimes I feel it is perception, if you think people are looking at you funny, they aren't. If you think somebody is stalking you, they aren't. I haven't seen too many bad things about this site yet and I probably won't because I am not looking for them.

For the most part this is a good site. You can find a wealth of information, support and friendship here, but like any community there will be discord. You just have to learn not to put too much store in it and move on.

I do not shun a discussion just because of the star attached to the poster. I respond to a topic which I feel I have something to say and more important I can give my views. Yes, star ratings mean NOTHING if the discussion is one worth responding.

kbourgerie, i am in full agreement with you. I really don't care about the silly ratings...they mean nothing. I post how I feel and sometimes i'm wrong...sometimes i go overboard to make a point and sometimes a downright stupid point....who cares? we are human. My ratings have gone up and down as well. you are only "perfect" when you reach heaven and that doesn't like it is soon coming. I can take alot of critisism. I hardly ever hit that - button. there are bound to be disagreements and sometimes they get a bit heated. most times we are all able to work them out and end up on friendly terms. I don't look at peoples star ratings. they mean nothing.
