Cheating?

Australia
May 13, 2008 9:44pm CST
I have seen a few posts typed like this lately. It's only been recently that I've seen this. I wonder why people write like this? Is it because they think more lines will mean more money? Does anyone know why some people do this? If it is cheating, something should be sone about it. It is a clever way to earn more money but the people who type like this i tend to ignore and not reply to their discussions. What's going on?

I actually think they do it because it is a form a cheating and something Mylot really does not pick up on. I wish they would outlaw that so people would actually type the real way. Not a way that means they'll cheat and get their way.

Yesterday I posted one discussion - it was rather long, but not too bad. I responded to only 10 new discussions. I spent the rest of my time commenting on responses made to my responses, and rating everyone I came across. Well today we got paid. When last month's money was deducted from my earnings, I realized that last night's activity on the lot had earned me just over a dollar. So who's really winning? Short nonsense discussion posters, posting one after another that get few responses? I doubt it. It's about quality, not quantity and the sooner more people realize that, the better this site will be.

*claps [start rant] It really bugs me how some people create 10 new discussions that are like: what is your favorite food? then: what is your favorite sport? and so on. Also, is there any way to get notified responded to something you posted or commented your post?

Yes there is. Go to your preferences page from your profile. Down near the bottom is a series of boxes next to mylot notifications. Check off the boxes of the things you want mylot to do for you.

I never gave it much thought until now that you mention it. I always just assumed it was their style of writing. Maybe they have their screen respolution set really large so the standard mylot line doesn't fir on their page. I guess there could be a lot of reasons they do that besides cheating. Maybe someone who does that will respond here and give their reason. I don't think it would have a huge impact on earnings. When people refer to a "line" I don't think they mean it literally, they just mean an average sized line length. So their 10 sentences are about the same as 5 standard lines.

I'm not sure about it. But I'll try doing that and observe if it really increases My earnings though and anyway thanks for the info.

I recently read a post here that said we get paid after 4 lines... I don't know if its true, but that is a quick way to build a line total. But those sentences should be in a paragraph... this isn't poetry, its discussion, and I know of no one who talks like that. Its not necessarily cheating, but it sure cuts corners!

The way people type on the internet change over time and new little trends come and go quite often. At a moment people were Typing Like This, With Capitals At The Start Of Every Word. Then a couple people started talking in leet speech (I am not even going to try to write it, its basically many symbols and numbers instead of letters, here is leet in leet speech: 1337.) Or it is a new trend, or people are becoming newfound poems, or they just hate being told to use paragraphs.

Hi coffeeshot , The way you typed your intro to this thread, suggests to me that the persons of whom you speak might be typing their contributions in a constrained situation. They might have the myLot browser window set up to only take up a small part of their video display, or they might have a really low resolution set on their display, or some other unusual situation. I wouldn't be too worried about any cheating going on in those cases. Even if it WAS an attempt at cheating, I'd say - good luck to them. It seems like a lot of effort to go to just to try to scrape in a few extra cents. Someone else in this thread said "it's all about the money". Surely not? If it was all about the money, I doubt myLot would even be here now - the money really doesn't match the effort that people make here, so I'd say it's NOT "all about the money". It can be a little annoying sometimes when people are quite clearly just pummeling the discussion forum with vacuous topics, presumably to try to rake in some cash (eg, "what's your favorite color, and why?", "how much do you eat, and why?", "do you have any pets, and why?", etc etc). But I just ignore those posts, like most others probably do too.

I have wondered myself Coffeeshot, I tend to think that it is just their personal style of posting. If you get a clear answer I will be interested in knowing why myself.

I know ! They want to make more money in a short time and in a easy way! and just like this! BUt I don't think it is a clever way to make money and it is a foolish way. And there account will be delete! So I think one should not cheat! this is my opinion!

I'm sure they're only fooling themselves, as well as irritating others. I know it irritates me. Having said that, I do tend to put mine into smaller paragraphs rather than just one long, run on discussion. I think it makes it easier to read. It has nothing to do with making the discussion longer or making more money. It really does make it easier on the eye. I'm just as likely to not read the discussion that consists of 20 lines with no spacing as I am to read the one with only a few words per line. I'm going to repeat what I just said above, but use no spacing. You tell me which is easier to read ... I'm sure they're only fooling themselves, as well as irritating others. I know it irritates me. I'm sorry, but the day that myLot bans me for cheating for writing in an appropriate style that is taught in any English class, is the day that I badmouth myLot every chance I get. That's not going to happen. What you did is annoying and may not get you banned, but it may get you fewer responses.

I think that probably the reason that some people ask questions is that they don't take the time to read the guidelines. Either that or perhaps they are hoping that they will not get deleted and still make a few cents.

by the way,i just wanna ask 1 question because im quite new here...are we paid by the quantity or a quality of our responses/comments? i hope there will be clarifications on this issue or concerns..how do we know its cheating? are their any rules or discussions on how to write a comment/response?

Ok, let me help with this one. #1- When you respond to a discussion, stay on topic and answer what is being asked. If you want to ask your own questions unrelated to the discussion you should PM a friend or start your own discussion. #2-We are paid based on the quality of our posts. Longer is better, on topic is better. #3-There are guidelines that should be followed. You can find the link to the guidelines in blue letters at the bottom of every page. New users should read them before posting and veteran users should check them for new additions and to refresh their memories.

well, i actually never think of that until you make this post... i don't know how mylot pays... you might be right... may be mylot pays more with more lines... but we just can't stop what people are doing... so i will just mind my own business and stay away from those people making those posts... take care and have a nice day...

I see people writing like this all the time. I don't pay any attention to it. Some people could be cheating I guess. I don't think it would work but who knows. Many mylot posters are learning English so when I read posts I keep this in mind. I know that I would probably write terribly in another language while I was learning. I wouldn't want people here or anywhere else criticizing the way I misspell words, use the wrong words or have poor grammar. Maybe this is just the way they write? Everyone is always so worried about what everyone else is doing on this site.

I think its just a matter of personal preference as I do not like to type clear out to the very edge so at times I make mine more compact but not out of any desire to cheat in any way. I am beginning to think a lot of mylotters are getting way too much hung up on the outer appearances of our discussions and responses and not enough on the content of them. I do not ignore posts based on outer appearance as much as on what is being said or not said. I often make mine compact as its just more comfortable for me to do so and that is the only reason so minus me if you must but I would rather you did not. I think this is nit picking myself.
