We human mostly prefer lying down when we sleep. But I just heard that some can sleep standing up!Have you ever heard of this?I think it's really unthinkable sleeping standing up. Though animals sleep in many different ways, some in a very strang way.. Most prefer to sleep lying down. Some, like the giraffe, sleep standing up! A few water birds sleep standing on just one leg. Bats adopt the strangest way of all animals. They sleep upside down! That's realy amazing, don't you think?Do you have any weird sleeping things?

I've actually fallen asleep standing up. I was wee little but I did it. I've also talked in my sleep but not as much as some of my friends have lol. I had a friend who could have whole conversations in their sleep.

Hi there gxnfly! I have heard of animals sleeping while standing but not with humans. I don't really have weird sleeping habit aside from just wanting to be covered with blanket whether it's cold or not.

I have heard about people who can sleep standing up. But I do know someone who can go to sleep even while he is actively talking. He can engaged in a conversation and suddenly he just stop and he is already half asleep. Strange but it has happened.

Hi gxnfly, I like to sleep about three feet off the ground in the lotus position. It can be a bit awkward if I get woken suddenly, but three feet isn't far enough of a drop to get hurt too much. I believe most equine species prefer to sleep in the standing position, though they can probably sleep lying down if they want to. Cats sleep anywhere, in any position, at any time, but mostly during the day. I truly envy the rare few who don't need to sleep at all. There's been a few like that - and they basically spend nights reading or doing various household chores when everyone else is asleep. It would be marvelous to not have to spend a good part of each day unconscious - there's so much more that could be done, and learned, in that time.

Hi again, I just remembered another curious bit of info - I've read about soldiers on the Kokoda trail in the New Guinea jungle who slept with one eye open at all times, in case any of the Japanese invaders should come into view during the night. It sounds quite unusual, but I guess one does what one has to when the stakes are that high. It also shows that we're still able to perceive and respond to the material world around us, even when asleep - at least, those soldiers could.

well i have fallen asleep while standing in the shower before! course i didnt remain standing for very long and i had the bump on my head to prove it LOL! i remember once in highschool, falling asleep during geometry class. it was my first class right after lunch and the teacher always used the over-head projector to teach instead of the chalk board, so the room lights were off. according to the teasing i got for the rest of the year, my eyes were wide open as the teacher was calling on me to answer a question!! i never heard anything until someone next to me poked me on the arm lol!

I have not heared any human being sleeping while standing..LOL! I do know really if there are, I have several positions when I am sleeping, but I know those are common among everyone! I have no weird position, although, in our office, I can take a short nap even if I am just leaning on my table!

When I was pregnant with my fourth child, I was not very well, I had a really bad pregnancy. I also had heartburn so bad that when I lay down at night, I would choke on acid from my stomach. The only way that I could get some sleep of a night was to sit in an armchair propped up with pillows so that I was sat completely upright. I still did not get much sleep but enough to get by on.

one sleeping habit i did last time was standing. i am afraid that my boss caught me sleeping on lying position so what i did sleep standing beside a post. i am an operation supervisor of a gold processing plant before i resigned for doing my own business. we have 3 shift in 24 hours so sometimes i need to work during midnight until morning. so that my subordinates can get my attention directly if there is a problem in the operation so i sleep like post directly facing to the whole operation.

I discoverd I can sleep sitting down. The secret is to get your head in a position where it will not fall back then close your eyes. It works. I used to do it in the office facing the computer and everyone thought I was working - until somebody came and looked directly over the machine at me. A couple guys I work with fall asleep sitting at their desks with their mouths open and then somebody takes a photo with their cellphone and puts the photo up on the computer system. My father used to fall asleep while watching TV, sleep for two or three hours until we turned off the TV and woke him up to go to bed. It happens all the time.

Actually, I am one of those that have been known to sleep standing up. Well, actually I wouldn't really call it standing up but rather leaning against something. This is not generally how I choose to take a nap though. It is usually more a case that I am so tired that I fall asleep leaning against something.
