Do you separate your laundry before washing?

I can't remember a time when the laundry here actually got separated into neat piles of whites or colors or delicates to get washed. We just sort of throw them all together and wash them like that. If we have clothes that we know may fade or have the potential to fade, we'll hand wash them or wash them separately, but otherwise, they all get washed together. I don't separate my laundry but I know some people that do. What do you do? Separate or not?

If I think something might loos color and stain other things that get sorted with similar colors. Other than that I sort thing by temperature. Ann wool is washed by itself. We do a bit of sorting

I'm glad to see we're not the only ones that only do a bit of laundry sorting.

When I had my own washer & dryer, I used to separate everything. Now, I live in apartments and use their facilities, so I rarely have time to separate everything. If I only have a few whites such as underwear, I will just throw them in with the others.

I am a bleach freak so I tend to seperate out my whites and colors. I like the smell of bleach so I pour a lot of it in with the whites. Hey, I did say freak didnt I LOL. A lot of my color shirts have bleach stains on them to because I clean with bleach as well so when I spray the bleach and lean way over (I am short) to clean the back of the counter I always get a line of bleach stain across the front of my shirts LOL My husband makes fun of me.

Yes sometimes. Usually I know all the clothes I am putting into the washing machine so I am confident about mixing the whites and coloured ones. but whenever I have any new clothes that has not been washed before, I always wash it separately to see if the colour runs or not. Of course the silks and woolens and other delicates go separate. But usually, we too just dump the dirty clothes into the tub and wash them at one go.

Yes we did it we separated clothes before washing it especially the white one. I soak it with detergent for over night to maintain it's whiteness. And I also consider the kind of cloths. Some clothes can't be wash in washing machine, it can be wash thru hand washing. And one thing more the colors if we did not separate it from white there will be stain and if you observe the dark color there will be a little white thread stick in your black clothes.

Before I had my children, I would do a whites wash one day and a coloured wash the next. However, now I have to wash every day and so I just put it all together. I find that because I wash at a low temperature with a non-biological washing powder it seems to prevent the colours running and I have never had anything run.

Well, I do not wash towels with the clothing on account of the lint it produces on them. But I will mix whites and colors if they aren't enough to do two loads. But if we have a whole load of whites or colors then I do tend to separate so the white/light colored clothes will look brighter and cleaner cause sometimes if they are washed with darks they look a little dingy.

Yes, I do separate my laundries when washing time comes. I prioritize the white ones first, then the light-colored and those colored. And hand wash those that are delicate, especially those delicate ones..

Yes, I separate them. My mom trained us to do as such. She said that some small fibers of the colored clothes might affect the whiteness of the white clothes. Even if this is true or not I still separate them.

I suppose white clothes do need some extra washing when compared to other color dress. So i always seperate white ones from the others and get them washed. There are few of my clothes which fade off so i always wash them seperately. Most of the times when ever i ask my maid she wont seperate them so its me who have to seperate them before asking the maid to wash. Its good to seperate i think coz different kind of clothes need different kind of washing.

If I think something is going to bleed i'll hand wash it. Most of the time all the clothes I buy don't bleed. Other than that I separate my clothes like this: jeans; shirts; underclothes; and towels. makes it easier to put them away after they are dried.

I do but only with things that need hand washing (like wool and delicates) and the other stuff. When I was back at home, we don't use the machine to wash wool because it'll felt no matter what we do - the water is warmer than in temperate countries so we just wash by hand and line dry it. The machine is used for more "hardy" clothes like regular cotton and bed linen. My mum swears by hand washing her work clothes because they just stay in good shape for years and years. Oh, in case you're wondering, my machine back at home is nearly 30 years old. Since moving to Switzerland, I still sort out my laundry based on the above but instead of hand washing (no cold water in winter please), I just change the temperature or setting options on the washing machine from 40 degrees to 30 degrees/wool. Then it's hung out to line dry - we don't use pegs, I find that it has a tendency of leaving stretch marks on my clothes.

I always seperate my laundry. I hate it when my colors bleed. So, I always seperate and I always bleach my whites. I add a cup of bleach and let the water fill and then add the clothes. This avoids any bleach stains on your clothes.

i usually separate my laundry into two piles.... whites and colored clothes...i just want to make sure that the colors of my clothes would not be mixed up....as some of the fabric of the colored clothes when washed, the colors come out too... but i don't handwash any of my clothes... before i buy any clothes, i make sure the label says machine washable...

We don't have(or least least wear) wool or stuff that needs to be seperated. Everything I own can go in the machine(otherwise it would never get done). I seperate whites and colors, but I do not use bleach unless something is especially dirty. Other than that, just detergent and if I'm feeling really laundry-tastic, I'll actually put my bras in a lingerie bag, but this happens like once every other month so it clearly does no good, it just makes me feel better.

That's my worst nightmare! I have to seperate my clothes and I cringe when my husband throws everything together. (Thankfully, he's starting to learn!) I have five categories: whites, darks, bright colours, pale colours and underwear which is handwashed. I know it seems a bit anal but I like my clothes to last as long as possible!

I am picky about sorting. I am always paranoid that something will bleed color, and my nice stuff will be left looking like something that I've scrounged out of the landfill. This pickiness has been exacerbated by knowing people who have managed to ruin perfectly good clothing by washing brights with whites.
