My boyfriend and I watched a movie last night. He really enjoyed it ,as what he said," was really exciting with lots of action. " Typical man, that's just what guys would like, don't you think?
But I didn't really enjoy that movie at all. I love some love interest and comedy, not just car chases and fights. He was just like,"Typical female, you're only interested in romance".That's not true.I like action movies sometimes, but not when they are too noisy and just actions, nothing else.
What do you think?do you think man and woman have total different taste about movie? What kind movie do you like best?

I think it depends on the individual. Not gender. Since, I am a gender neutral person, I have no interest in making my interests that black and white. In society where we are taught to behave a certain way according to gender, I'm not surprised that people associate gender with film. I mean, I like what I like. And I am happy with the things that I like. I have the ability to watch a Steven Segal movie and then right after that I will watch a chick flick. It just depends on my mood. I like movies in general with good scripts.

Im a guy, but I really cant sit through some movies out now. I cant sit through movies that are.... more suited for a women to watch (P.S. I LOVE YOU), I also cant sit through an action film with just action, theirs that one actor now, Jason Statham? I will not watch any movie with him, I cant do it, because each minute with that guy is going to be, "Here I am" then hes either going to shoot someone or yell some more. The movie I look for are movies that actually make sense, or have common directors, (Stephen King), Or good actors (Nicolas Cage).

From my observation it is indeed the general rule that men like the action-packed films while women go for the romantic ones, so-called chick flicks. But as with all rules there are of course exceptions sometimes. If an action movie is really good women will like it. If a love story is good men will like it. Like me, I'm a guy but I like the movies A Walk To Remember and Titanic.

We have a hard time finding movies we all want to watch around here. Usually I'm the one who compromises and will watch something I can tolerate. Action movies aren't interesting to me unless there's some good comedy involved. Now "The Departed" had a lot of violence, but the story was involved and interesting so I liked that one for instance.
Today we're going to see the "Narnia" as a compromise between kids and adults, male and female.

I think that men tend to be more interested in action than women, I like chick flicks, comedy and horror movies the best. Most guys would run away from a chick flick like they had just caught on fire.

Hi gxnfly,
Perhaps individual tastes for movies are partly guided by one's personal ambitions or self-image. That is, a person might vicariously project themselves into the role of a screen character, to live out the experience in their imagination.
So in that sense, peoples' tastes in movie entertainment would at least partly depend on their gender, because that has a significant bearing on one's mental and emotional dispositions.
Of course, cultural conditioning and personal idiosyncracies also have a part to play in a person's overall character, so gender is probably not the whole story.
BUT I must confess that, in my experience, there is a marked preference amongst women for "touchy-feely" stories with a lot of relationship issues. While menfolk do have a liking for simple, action-based themes that don't require too much thinking.

Tell your boyfriend that there are females out there that love action films and are not into romantic comedies. If he asked who, tell him , me. I prefer seeing a good car chase over the romantic comedies of today. If given the choice of seeing an action film and a romantic comedy, I would choose action 9 times out of ten.But I do like a romance film, without the comedy, like Bridges Of Madison County or The English Patient.I don't believe All women like this or all men like that. So you should ask what type of films l=you like. I know that any man who likes romantic comedies isn't the man for me. And I am not the one for him. No one is right or wrong. You just need to find out which type of film you and your mate like and hope it matches.

My husband and I both enjoy action and suspense movies but I can say that being a woman, I still consider watching romance or love story which he can't stand!LOL! So, I guess, it is common between any man and woman who has different taste of movies though they enjoy similarities but there is always an exception!

I am not a man but i prefer action movies before. I just started appreciating dramas and love stories lately. Maybe they're right. It's in your characteristics. I am a person who moves a lot and I am dreaming of being as good as Jackie Chan when it comes to stunts but as sexy as Devon Aoki. So if you're going to make me choose between "Van Helsing" over to something like "The Bucket List" or any good drama and girl thing movies, I'd choose something that will make my imagination burst and turn my seat upside down. In spite of it all, I too, doesn't like vain and empty movies which just produces noise. It has to be something that will touch my heart, broaden my mind with ideas and amaze me.

Well, I have a big problem... My memory is terrible!!! So, every time i rent a movie I have to ask my husband about it... So I say Have we seen this one?" and there's when he take advantage of me,hehe. If he doesnt like it he says "yes, we did!" but if he think it'll be a good action and bloody movie, he says "thats a great one!! let's see it!!!" pretty unfair,... dont you guys think?

Yup.. I agree that both man and woman had got different taste in movies selection.. Most gals will like love stories and guys will like action movies or those violent ones.. Maybe it's due to one's characteristic and nature, even for a guy who's gentle minded by nature, will prefer love movies too.. So i guess, it's more to characteristic of each individual..
