Sometimes we get so busy with day to day life that things slip past our radar’s and we don’t notice them. A couple weeks ago while I was at my Mom’s I noticed that her dog was very swollen around the eyes and nose. She hadn’t noticed it and when I pointed it out I suggested that she get the dog to a vet b/c the swelling could affect her sight.
Well, it turned out that the dog had some kind of sinus infection and needed treatment. She’s all right now but I find myself keeping an eye on her when I go over. When I had my Petey he was always right there with me so I usually always noticed if anything was wrong with him. Morgana is the same way. She’s always around me so I notice if anything isn’t right with her.
Do you ever overlook or miss noticing when one of your pets are sick or injured? Do they let you know when they have a hurt?

What's Solo? Doggie, Kitty, or...Horse? ;)
If it's a Kitty or Doggie, your easiest bet is to put out the food...hey...likewise, I'd think, for a horse. Once graising, any animal is an easier catch. Just keep the food near their mouth, and transport to container. ;)

We are only allowed to have birds and fish thanks to the previous tenants letting their cats and dogs pee every where!
I always keep a super close eye on my fish tanks when I have cleaned them out, as that is usually when I have problems with my fish. I also keep a good eye on my birds, especially their breathing.
It is hard to detect a problem with birds and fish until it is almost too late, because they are very small and very good at hiding an illness.

I pay close attention to all of my animals and notice anything that may be wrong with them. Normally, I notice before anyone else because I am very observant. I have to be because they don't let me know when something is wrong.

I'm so glad you noticed your Mom's dog wasn't well when you visited, and pointed it out to her, and I know that you will now keep an eye on the dog for your Mom.
I have two small dogs aged 9 and 11, and they are with me all the time; they are like my shadows! Everywhere I go, they go! If one of them is hurt they let me know, but I can usually tell anyway, even if it's not obvious. I can tell with their body language if they are now feeling 100%. We are very much in tune with each other!

No, I usually notice most times. If her nose looks dry I will even check her to see if she has a temperature. Just like if my little sister looked flush I would check hers also. Goes without saying if you love your animals you do your best to care for them when you notice anything different.

Both my cats are so clingy and want to be so close to me all the time, it's hard not to notice if something's wrong.

My husband is in charge of the cats here. He just makes sure they are fed, but they have been sick for a while and he doesn't do anything about it. I took one to be put down and the technician told me she was sick and very contagious so to expect the other cats to be sick and die too. I told my husband and he still doesn't do anything. It cost me over $50 to have that cat put to sleep out of my pocket since I did it behind his back. He said before if I put it to sleep I might as well murder him too. He doesn't get it. I feel bad for these three remaining cats but I can't afford to keep cleaning up on his ignorance.

My cat is so allergic to fleas, then he is allergic to the stuff to kill the fleas that I am continuously picking over him to see if the itching is from a flea or from the cure LMAO. My dog hates her weekly baths, but she gets a good going over in that process to begin with. But yeah we have all at one time or another ignored our non English speaking animals... I always feel so guilty when it happens as well.

Glad to hear your mom's dog is doing better now with treatment. Poor thing was prolly in pain from the infection.
I'm in tune to my animals and always notice if something is wrong or if they just want attention. Like now for instance. I ran out of the cats' reg. food Wed. but had no money to go get more so I borrowed a few bucks to get the food I used to give them. All three have turned their noses up at it. They nibble it here and there but are not eating otherwise. Instead, they are pestering me to no end for their food. lol I even ran out of the Fancy Feast Melodys that Tigger loves so much but the stores in my town don't carry it. With the gas prices nowadays, I also can't afford the 30mile round trip to Petco to get their food. It's the only store that sells it. Today is payday so will be going shopping tonight for not only cat food but Dom is almost out so will be getting his monthly bag of food as well. Also going to have to replenish the cats' treats being Tigger been begging for them more than usual. Spoiled rotten fur babies here. lol

Yes things can slip by our notice....this happened many, many years ago with my then kitten Bobbie and orange colored tabby cat. He didn't have any signs of anything so just didn't notice..then one day the delivery guy came with groceries...he got a kick that we had called our newest kitten Bobbie, since his name was Robert. so he goes over to pet Bobbie and he says, Oh, look at his eyes! It was only then I noticed that Bobbie had that "third" eyelid thing..usually indicating a fever. When Robert left, my Bobbie patiently allowed my to take his temperature...yikes..he had a temperature of something like over 103! The next day my mother took him to the vet...and he was none to encouraging and just plain didn't think he'd make it, yet my mother hated the idea of maybe putting him down and told the vet to do whatever he could...so the vet rehydrated him, as he was dehydrated and stock us with antibiotics. So I began my ritual of force feeding him as he by now had stopped eating, gave him steam baths, and of course gave him his medicines...and I kept taking his temperature...within a few days his fever broke, and he was already much better..the vet said it was almost a miracle as he just plain didn't think Bobbie would survive, that's how sick he was. Bobbie lived to be fifteen years old and never was sick ever again...
But no, I think animals are wonderful in this regard...in that they never complain or indicate they are sick unless of course it becomes very obvious to us--not like us humans who tend to complain about a simple thing like a hangnail..LOL --uh something I might be guilty of
Have a photo of Bobbie posing in front of my Thanksgiving Studio Photo Set up

I am always very concerned about my pets so I notice (I think too much) whether they are feeling ok or not. I am an overprotective dog and cat mommy. It's hard because they are like babies and can't tell you where it hurts.

I am afraid that I am one of these people that immediately panics if the least little thing is wrong with any of my dogs. I go immediately to the vet. One Saturday night one of my little one was acting strangely, the vets were close, the emergency vet clinic was to far for me to drive at night. So I found a website where it cost me $9.00 to get immediate online help. Diagnosis, treatment etc., the diagnosis was absolutely correct and I had this confirmed on the Monday when I took her to my regular vet. It was the best $9.00 I ever spent! I had peace of mind and was able to make my baby feel better.

My dog is attached at my hip! there is no way i could miss if something was wrong with her. i mean she is either on my lap or right there by my feet, or trying to crawl up my leg. i would be heartbroken if something was wrong with her and I did't notice it

Sometimes my dogs will let me know they are not feeling well, but not always. I know that the spring and summer is hard on my younger one cause she is allergic to the grass and weeds. I have to frequently give her benadryl. My older one has several tumors under the skin on her belly. I asked about surgery, but since they are not cancerous or attached on an organ we decided to leave them alone since they are just as likely to come back again. They don't bother her and at her age we are just going to watch them. She is almost 11 and I don't want to put her through the stress of surgery unless I have to.

My cat had a cut and I didn't think anything of it until a little green bead hung off from it. Apparently cats develop little puss sacks and this was not a cut, it was a puncture wound (cats heal cuts well from licking). So my cat needed anti-biotics for this injury.
Usually my cat is around, but there is a lot of cat and a lot of fur. So a small cut can get overlooked. Puncture wounds can be small and needle-like, too. Take care
