Does this often happen to you: You are handed a task or project straight after lunch that you have to complete by the end of the day. No later than the end of the day. What do you do? Do you mumble, groan or perhaps even curse under your breath? Do you think, "How on earth can I get this done?"
This happened to me several times already. As a subordinate, I do not really have no choice but to do as I am expected. Of course, I hate it when it happens!

There is no other go than doing the task. But I prefer routine works that I do not get disturbed till finished. But who does listen. We are, I think not yet in to a system that is subordinate friendly. These kinds of tasks only lead to job stress and related complications.

Yes this is very true.It does happens at times and as usual we don't have any option but to finish the task.In fact today only I was asked to make a report at 3 and had to submit it by today and I'm just makink it.I was so angry that my boss could have given me the work a little early but I guess he wants that everybody stays in the office as long as possible

I hope that you were able to accomplish what you were asked to accomplish given the short time.

You just need to have the right attitude..."Oh great! Something to keep me occupied all afternoon! That will make the time go quicker!"
The more you dislike a thing the harder a chore it is. If you concentrate on the good parts, it's not so bad.

Hi dolce_vita! Oh, it does happen to my husband all the time. Hubby is in the graphic design business and I do help him out because his business is home base. There are clients who really beg hubby to have their designs immediately as in they give the details last night and would want it first thing in the morning. I really get irritated because what they pay hubby might not be enough to pay hospital bills if he get sick from always working til the wee hours of the morning. What makes me reach my boiling point is when they get their design and will pay my hubby after a week of two. hah!
Take Care and God Bless! Happy Mylotting!

After a week or two? After pressuring your hubby to get the work done immediately? That's really bad!

I've had people do this and I've always seemed to be able to get it all done. I usually drop just about everything to work on that project and I work pretty efficiently. But, you can also delegate the task if you have that authority, then you can have multiple hands working on it and get it done faster.
My pet peeve is that fifteen minutes before you are to go home, someone hands you a ton of work and asks you to stay late when you've already made plans.

I have been given tasks like this several times before. I actually kind of liked the challenge. I always got the task done and it made my supervisor and the company owner very happy. I did feel pressed for time and stressed out occasionally though because someone or something always tried to come in between me and my work.

this is the reason why i rendered my voluntary resignation because of pressure. i hate the time when this happen to me. all my efforts, patience, courage and other attitude will used. we can't refused as what you said because we are only subordinate. my assistant manager always said to us "Wait Until You Become" if i am aiming to become like them i don't know when. so not i own my time because i put up my own business.
