Exercising or not in the myLot.com community...

It seems like a lot of time is now spent in front of the computer... How much exercise do you do per week? What kind of exercise do you do? Do you enjoy it? I must admit that I rarely exercise but do walk, do tai chih and dance a little by myself... I enjoy it but still do not make time for it. How about you. Do you exercise? How much do you exercise? times a week, minutes at a time... How do you exercise? Do you really enjoy exercising? or just like how you feel afterwards? What advice would you give to a person like me who does not exercise? Is there an easy way that you have used to get started or to keep motivated once you started?

I usually do a 2 mile walk every morning. Since I like walking isn't hard for me to keep on doing it. It also keeps me in shape for my job, wildland firefighter, in our off months. I do like the way I feel afterwards, I have more energy. I do my walks 5 days a week, and normally walk with my s/o on the weekend. It only takes me about 30 minutes. I found that by doing it at the same time everyday I stick with it much easier.

Thanks for sharing about your exercise... I think that walking is perhaps the best exercise to do... I though probably would start at less that two miles at first. Thanks for your service to the community as a wildland firefighter. I appreciate you.

Well, I usually do lots of work at my job. I move around the hospital where I do currently work a lot. That is exercise right there, with all that hard work. I oughtta have a well balanced healthy diet along with the overall fitness plan. And then the rest of my time, I will spend on mylot.

I try to get a two mile walk in every single day even if I have to do those two miles at different times of the day. I find that walking (in place of going to a gym or working out in front of the television) is a better option for me. I like to feel the wind and the sun beat down against me. I like looking at all the little critters that roam around Florida. I like to be outside. Last night I even added swinging on the swings on my list of exercises. Since I'm twenty-five and haven't been on a swing since about the fourth grade, it was good exercise for my legs.

I have JUST started walking for exercise within the last week. I go with my friends. We walk for about 2 hours a day usually 3-4 miles a day.. I have walked 11 miles in the last 3 days ON PURPOSE . My husband just bought m the Dance Dance Revolution game for the PS. I LOVE it. It has a workout mode. It is a lot of fun AND you really don't feel like you are exercising. I usually walk after work and before dinner. I feel GREAT knowing that I will soon be able to fit back into my size 6 jeans instead of my size 10's About 2 years ago I did this, watched the sugar and fat intake.. and lost 25 pounds in about 3 months. I had more energy, a better attitude, I felt WONDERFUL, and my stamina increased. If you can't find anyone to go with you, take your dog (if you have one) and go by yourself. If you can afford it, and already have a game system.. get the DDR game. Also cut the High Fructose Corn syrup as much as you can out of your diet, it prohibits weight loss AND its bad for the liver. Good Luck!

Thanks for sharing these tips... I appreciate your information and will perhaps implement some of it. You confirm what I have believed regarding that high fructose corn syrup.

I am glad that you are active... Do you get others in your community involved in exercise too? It seems like you would be an ideal person to be a coach or to lead others in athletics... Have you ever considered it? Young people would love to have someone lead them who enjoys exercise.

I get some exercise...I do it in the mornings after my husband has left for work, when I'm home by myself. I enjoy it very much, it makes me feel good afterwards,to think that I'm doing something to help me get fit. I walk 2 miles 5 days a week, 30 mins a day. I use the in-home walking system, it allows you to walk in the privacy of your own home, rain or shine, nobody's watching you, you don't have to go to the gym where there are alot of people. I really like it, and how I stay motivated is because it really works, I've lost 13 lbs so far, its the only thing that I've ever done where I've actually seen results. Its easy to follow, you start with the 1 mile walk and work your way up, I just ordered the 3 mile dvd today, and hopefully I will be able to start it soon.

Thanks for this... wondering if you are doing this with or without a treadmill... It is just a DVD or does it require additional equipment to do what you are doing? Thanks for posting.

Its a DVD that you watch, and its like marching in place, there are 4 different steps that you do. It starts out with a warm-up and as you go along the pace picks up a little, its like aerobic walking. Its easy to follow, not hard at all. The lady that does the videos is named Leslie Sansone, you can find her dvd's on her website, or on amazon.com just type her name in and they will come up, and they aren't real expensive. You can watch it on your computer if your computer plays dvd's. Thats all you need is a dvd player.

I agree with Tallymommy, find the laziness factor. I take brisk, 20-30 minute walks and use the "You: Staying Young" workout - you know the Drs. Oz and Roizen stuff from Oprah? It's a very short workout that requires no equipment, just body resistance and it is fairly intense. Now that I know the workout, I put the DVD on mute and watch another small TV while I do it. LOL!

If I can find that DVD and use it in my computer, it might work... I am not familiar with the workout you mention as I do not watch Oprah... and have no television that works... I gave up cable awhile back and now use the computer and the radio as my main sources of entertainment.

Sorry to respond to this so late... Hoping that everything is going well with the therapy and that the stints are working well... I am glad that you will be doing some swimming... I was feeling like doing that today but one of my friends talked me out of it saying: Isn't it a wee bit too windy and too cool to go swimming. Oh well.

I still get exercise as I am enrolled in a gym with a program to follow. Normally, I login to mylot in the morning from 6-9 AM. Then I'd go to the gym and work out for about 30-45 minutes. I'm still in the beginning stage so each equipment I only spend 5 minutes or do 15 sets like stomch crunch and lifting dumbbells. I also walk a lot. I walk to the gym, to the allotment, to the city center or to the library. Each place takes me a minimum of 10 minutes to get there. Sometimes I get lazy to go to the gym but I know that if I give in I'd lost interest forever. So I try to fight it over and still go there anyway. Once I'm on the exercise bike I feel motivated to go all the way.

Well, somedays I'm a slacker too. But like I said, I only slack if I have walked too many miles already during the day. You see, we don't have a car right now so we always walk, walk, walk.

I go absolutly stir crazy if I don't go for a run every day as well as do yoga every morning. I sometimes run in the morning and the evening. I have no trouble staying motivated to work out because I feel very edgy if I don't. I guess i've trained myself.

I only get unmotivated when i'm sick or depressed. usually just looking outside helps me to get motivated to go for a run, but if not, watching a sport on television usually helps too.

Though I do not make the time to exercise I make sure I walk for atleast at hour everyday. Avoid taking the but to and fro to office and make sure I walk. Other than that I am too much glued to the computer and television to exercise. Or just plain lazy.

My job is very physically demanding. I work very hard. I walk everywhere and get plenty of cardiovascular exercise. Then 200 push ups a day. And still get my finger workout on MyLot! I love looking at my body in the mirror when it is chiseled to perfection!! I know it looks good!!

whiteheron that is one thing that I must and should do exercise, but I get glued to my seat here mylotting and all of a sudden the days most gone. I should at least walk. I am told that all I need to do is thirty minutes about four or five times a week but right now I am not doing it. Sometimes I get a brief walk in maybe twice a week but I know that is not enough. I do think that just plain walking is one of the easiest ways to get exercise in.I used to post on the calendar each time that I walked and that 'sort of served as a motivation to keep doing it. I am physically handicapped in that I have a brace on one leg but I c an walk its just slower than other people.

I understand about the not exercising. I have been glued to myLot too... talk about providing a good excuse for not exercising... grins. Thanks for posting. You might want to try seeing if you would find a water exercise class in a very heated pool... Where I live, there are people who go to a twinges in the hinges class and those who go there often have physical challenges but feel such freedom in the water and as the exercises are in the shallow end even the non-swimmers are able to participate.

Well, what I would certainly do is to spend some great time doing exercise. And I will certainly spend the rest of time on mylot. Well, exercise and diet, are the most important for health. I really enjoy exercising a lot as well as mylot. My goal: having a fit body and mind.
