The mail have just arrived and in it was a letter from my company saying that as from 1st May I have received a 2.5% pay rise but this was in addition to a 30p an hour one backdated to 1st January that I received last month and there I was moaning about the prices of everything going up except our incomes. So please share when was the last time you recevied an increase in income or when is your next one due? Ellie :D

My last pay rise was last August Ellie and I received my last pay cheque in November, so I didn't have long to enjoy it. It wasn't very substantial as rises go as I recall, but every little helps as Mr Tesco says. I haven't had a pay cheque since November let alone a pay rise. But myLot bung about $25 a month into my Paypal account which covers the odd little thing that I buy off E bay. I was watching my daughter try to insert her leg into a new pair of tights today (I don't make a habit of watching 19 year old girls dress, but she was leaning against me for support) and I toyed with a new career as a bank robber. What would I do with the other leg though. I suppose it could make a scarf for those chilly mornings whilst I wait for the bank to open.

Wow! I wish I could get a letter like that.
Last time I was at our head office the boss gathered everybody together and announcd that there would be no pay rises for anybody this year (including him) as the company had not made enough profit.
Take it or leave it was the attitude and I already know several people have left.
Probably suits him, though, he doesn't have to make them redundant now.

We have had so many staff shortages this year that I think they want to keep the staff they have as we have all been under a lot of pressure coping with extra shifts to cover and working with limited numbers and still getting everything done, but it is lovely that they show us they value us in this way eh! I am sorry to hear that you haven't received one but in this day and age and the economy being like it is we are lucky to have jobs really as they are few and far between right now. Ellie :D

the last time i received a pay rise is last year... i always have a pay increase in my company every year... and i am due to receive one this month... so i am expecting to see a pay increase this week when i receive my payslip... i think it will be about 2.5% like yours as well or less... anyway, any increase that i can get is good now considering that the price of everything had increased so much nowadays... good on you for receiving a pay rise as well... take care and have a nice day...

10% is great and i love that my job does that for me. well i put in the work and do a great job because i love what i do. but it's not what i want to do forever nor what i am going to get wealthy doing either. so starting my own business is the only way to go. thanks

We have had a lot of staff shortages recently and it has meant we have all had to put in extra shifts and effort so I think they want to keep the staff they still have by giving them an incentive of a pay rise. They do review each year usually though. Ellie :D

Fabulous! I know how it feels to get an increase in your salary. When I was teaching in Bangkok I get a yearly raise of about 10% and it's very helpful. Makes me want to work harder as it really motivates me and gets me going.
Well, so far the only raise I have been expecting is here in mylot.
By the way, I have just arrived in England and my visa is not yet allowed to work. So I will wait for a couple of months more till I can get a job.
Anyway, congratulations to you. You deserve it.!

wow! That's cool ellie, Congratulations for that, though it's not a big increase but I am sure, it will help already! When I was still working, we were given a yearly increase but it depends also in a year how much! Sometimes, we remember, the increase is just enough for the increase in our taxes too!LOL!

Woo Hoo! I am so happy for you! I haven't gotten one for a while...maybe a year..do to the rising costs our company is small...so....I am fine with that. Since I don't have a family around anymore it's cheaper for me to live...so if someone with a family gets a raise that would make me happy. I see them at the grocery store and just can't believe how much it costs now days to raise a family!

The last increase in income that I had was when my child benefit and family tax went up. I do not think that my hubby has had a wage increase yet, not sure actually the last time that he had one!!
I bet you were really pleased with it though, every little bit helps in this day and age, I have been on a kick to try and beat all the price hikes and stick to all my budgets and I am doing quite well at the minute, doubt it will last long though!!

Hi Gemini_rose, yes I think mine went up too but can't remember when but by pennies. I was just so pleasantly surprised as it was unexpected but I still don't think it will cover for the increases of everything else but every little helps eh! You should get your husband to ask if he has one due as sometimes if you don't ask you don't get. The one I had backdated to January was because I hadn't received one so I asked and wow look what happened I now have two. Yippee. Ellie :D

The last time I received a raise was back a couple months ago. It was not bad. Now that I make a little more. I need to make a little more still. I am still not making enough at all. I need more money to fit my budget plans; having more income than expenses. So I will almost be making $10 per hour eventually. Yeah, everything is going up sky high. And I bet that I would not be able to have anything at all.

I understand completely where you are coming from on this as even though my rise was lovely it wwon't even cover the cost of the rising fuel prices to and from work and everything else is going up too also. It was an unexpected pleasant surprise though to get one. Thank you for sharing. Ellie :D

Here in KY the state employees are supposed to get a guaranteed 5% pay raise. But the law for this included a little clause that law makers can amend this if needed leading to lower to hardly any pay raises in the last 6 years. The last budget round they decided on 1%, which is still more than what most employees got the previous year.
With the economy being in a slump and prices skyrocketing, many other employers also only offer low to no increases. I'll just keep my fingers crossed that the situation will soon improve.

well good for you, first of all. i haven't had a pay raise in a long time. the only time i seem to get a raise is when i get a different job that pays more than i was making at my last job.

I do ok actually. In fact I surprise myself. I can live fairly cheaply and not overdo things and I have a credit card or two. One is a bit blown out at the moment so I will concentrate on bringing it under control for a while. I was put on a benefit because I was caring for my Dad, working as a casual and had these problems with my knees and also carpal tunnel syndrome in both hands. I've moved into an area where there is no work and so due to that and my age I am able to keep my benefit.

Hi MsTickle that isn't very much to have to live on eh! Is this due to your accident with your knee. It must be so frustrating not be so mobile these days. I really feel for you. Thank you for sharing. Lets hope you get another raise in benefit soon. I got one recently of a few pence through my child allowance, every little helps eh! Ellie :D

Wow that's really good news Ellie, very happy for you, I hope it will help you out - I know things have been tight for you lately.
The last payrise I received was in July last year which was 10% and I'm due another one in July this year which my boss has already told me will be 10%. This is my 2nd year with the company and it was fantastic even joining the company as I got a £6,000 raise from my previous job and on top of that I get £2,000 bonus a year which is always guaranteed. I work for a small company which can afford to give decent pay rises as we're very profitable and by not growing too fast they can afford to retain the staff with experience and by paying decent salaries people stay loyal to the company!
My last company used to give piddly 2% pay rises and the last bonus I got working there was £37 for the whole year, it was like a slap in the face! x

Thanks Anonymili, Yes this will halp as things have been tight but there are so many others in my position too, but I have ridden the storm.
Your company sounds fantastic and 10% is pretty decent eh! It does make you feel valued which is lovely unlike your last company where you begin to feel why do I bother putting in all this effort and for what. My ex-husband always pays his employees a really decent amount as he says that way you keep the staff and don't lose money in having to retrain a new person. Retention matters. I think he is so right.
Thank you for sharing. Ellie :D
