I am an avid movie fan, and will generally watch all kinds of movie genre. But, my favourites are 'film noir' such as for example The Asphelt Jungle (1950), or Anatomy of a Murder (1959) which are all the more atmospheric filmed in black and white; at least in my opinion. I also love screwball comedy such as The Thin Man (1934), and His Girl Friday (1940). They are both fast paced with witty dialogue.

I love somany great movies...i agree a lot of the older movies*black and white* have a lot of spirit and wonderful dialogue...Movies from the past had more focus on dialogue in todasy movie it is all about special effects...The art of movie making has took a different turn...Movie magic is sometimes lost on cheap tricks...I prefer horror movies though and then it would be witty well written comedys...:)

Well, I think the reason why there is a focus on dialogue in the old black and white movies is due to the newfangled sound affects at the time. In many respects we have gone full circle reverting back to the 'visul affects' that prevailed in the silent genre of movie See Charlie Chaplin's movies which rely heaviy on silent film to exacerbarete visual affects. ( Chaplin was reluctant to use sound, though it was available in his later career). Today's films are much the same, in that they subdue the dialogue to emphesize visual affects.
Nevertheless, my personal preference is for dialogue. I suppose that's why I'm into old films.
