Hi everyone,
I'm a bartender and a nursing student and being a mom on top of it, my hands are constantly in water and being washed with harsh soap. I was wondering if some of you would share your favorite hand creams that have actually worked for you.
I seem to have tried so many and none of them seem to be working. My hands are hurting and bleeding. Ughhh!!
So what are your favorite hand creams that you cannot live without?
Thanks for the responses in advance.

Hi... how are you? oh, that' sounds mighty painful. anyway, i have a very cheap solution. why not apply petroleum jelly whenever you can. i have a friend who had the same problem and she's allergic to dishwashing soap that mad her hands bleed and she tried different products and the only that worked was petroleum jelly.
take care and let me hear from you if it works.
happy mylotting

good to hear that... buy a small bottle that you can stash in your bag so that you have it handy at all times. in time, you r skin will be able to recover...take care...
have you considered using gloves when washing bottles, glasses, etc. ? that can prevent it too...

So far it is working wonderfully. But my abused hands have a long way to go. Thanks so much for the response.

I wear gloves at home but at work I'd look kind of funny, at least I can keep my hands out of chemicals and water some of the time.

I'll be watching this discussion too as I have the same problem. Not as busy as you..but my hands are always dry. Southern Calif weather I guess. I don't do much dishes cause it is just me and when I Do I ALWAYS use gloves. I tried so many hand creams and nothing worked. I found last year a Vasaline Moisture Locking Lotion, Intensive Rescue - it worked well as far as getting instant relief. But either my hands got immune to it or the weather is just to dry as now it works instantly, but doesn't last long as it used to. But I would say give it a try as it did work really well for me. Good luck!

Yeah, at that price, I'd have to look for something else too! I also watch the Bath and Body WOrks sales for the 3/$10 sales - some of their hand lotions, although not as good as that Vasaline one, at least they smell good and do some softening and they aren't greasy.

I'm going out to buy that one today. Who can pass it up at 3.00?
Thanks so much for the response. I will let you know if I come across anything that works great for me. I have one that I have used in the past that is absolutely fabulous by L'Occitane. The thing is- it runs about 24.00 a tube. Yikes!! I'm actually looking for something comparable and cheaper.

I know nothing about handcream Skinny but I would be grateful for some advice though. Have you ever heard of Burt's Bees products? I used some Hand Salve the other day and my hands became a dust magnet. Everything that I touched seemed oily and tacky. What did I do wrong. I put enough on, but not too much. My hands still felt yucky the following day after several washes and a shower.

I think Burt's Bee's is overpriced and overhyped. I have used that Hand Salve. While it smells good, it did the same thing to me. You put on too much. But you can't win because it doesn't really feel like you put on too much, it feels like not enough. Somehow it creeps up on you. I don't know what they put in it but it sure makes your hands do something weird. I would give it away to someone or throw it away, it doesn't get any better after using it for awhile.

I don't have a specific hand cream, I use whatever cream I can find lying around really. What hand cream do you use? You never said.

I have used so many...Almost everything out there that says hand cream on it. I usually try one kind from each brand and have decided that most don't work. My favorite cream hands down is the L'Occitane Lavender Shea Butter Hand Cream but it's too expensive for my budget right now. Though I'm thinking it might be worth it.

My Mam loves the L'Occitane products. She also likes the Body Shop products, so you might want to try them if you haven't already as they are a little cheaper.

Like your proffession I work within a Residential Home and I am forever washing my hands. My husband works with chemicals and glues and my god his hands get so rough. We both apply vaseline on our hands for a few hours at night and then put on some rubber gloves this is a miracle worker for us.
Good Luck!

That vasaline never worked on my hands but I do that on my feet nad then put on no-cuff socks over night. Works well on my feet!
My hands are a problem too. I even bought one of those parafin wax therapudic machiens - you heat the wax and when melted you dip your hands in and leave it on for 15 minutes. I even did the part of putting my hands in plastic gloves while the warm wax settled and still ...did nothing for my hands.

I did that last night and it did work. I was very surprised. My hands are really trashed so it didn't completely help totally but there is a great turnaround. I need a couple more rounds of doing that I think. Thanks so much for the response.

Awww I was looking at those machines. I so love to get my hands parafin waxed at the salon but I can't afford it right now. I won't waste my money there either. Thanks for the warning.

Actually my husband has dry hands and we get Avon Intensive Healing lotion that works okay, But also from the beauty magazines we have took their advice and used Crisco Shortening and a rubber glove which you can get at WalMart and leave on overnight. In the morning take it off and clean your hands and they are nice and soft also works well for feet just use a baggy and a sock. Just don't forget about it though or you will be sliding everywhere..

I did that and it's amazing- along with Vaseline at the same time! LOL Talk about greasy. I really should have taken before and after pictures since I have posted this discussion. My hands are still amazing and healed. Even with working they are staying like that. I do the Vaseline thing once a week now. I was doing it everyday. I'm also going through hand lotion pretty fast, I put it on all day long. I like that Avon one- along with Silicone Glove. I also found a really nice light Lavender hand lotion at Dollar Tree called Natural Benefits and so far that is one of my favorites. I love that it's only a buck!

I've heard bag balm is really good (yes it was originally made for cows). I've also found that when my skin is really dry and moisturizers just won't cut it that if I start taking flax seed oil capsules my skin gets better.

I'm a bit of a germ freak, so I use a lot of hand sanitiser. I also use wipes a lot. I guess I go a litle far with it but I think it's better to be sanitary then sorry.

Well, Avon's Silicone Glove is awesome, but I didn't know about it when I worked as nurse to say it works well for those hands...lol.
When I worked as a nurse...I would get to the point that I would put Crisco on them (yes, the white stuff in that can in your kitchen cupboard). Slather it on, rub it in some, then wear cotton gloves or even socks on your hands all night. Works wonders!!
Bartender, nurse and mom...DO you sleep...?
OH, I just realized I said to wear it all night...I didn't say anything about sleeping...ok, you're good.

I'm a now 4th year nursing student. A year left and only 1 clinical semester left. Then comes the management semester- I might be able to save some of the skin on my hands by then. :) I sleep about 4 hours a night when I'm in school. Our semester is over now so I can sleep a little longer. Thankfully, I tend bar in a fine dining restaurant that doesn't stay open to the wee hours. So I work around it all but it's quite the juggle. Thanks so much for the great response. I would have never thought about Crisco but I have some and I'm desperate. Between that and the Vaseline I'm going to be one greasy mess but maybe my hands will stop aching.

I like the Corn Huskers lotion and the Neutrogena hand creams.. You could also try a bit of vaseline on your hands overnight with thin latex gloves covering them.. This helps hold the heat and moisture in while you are sleeping.. It has worked for me many times.. I read somewhere that it would work for your feet also, with saran wrap covering the vaseline, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.. I got up to go to the bathroom and almost killed myself sliding all over the house..

AVON silicone glove is really good. It protects hand from detergents and chemicals and moisturizes deeply. You can get it from the books they send in your mailbox. Although it's cheap, it's good. I love it.
