My nearest supermarket isn't close so I will always drive for the weekly shop except when car was off the road and I walked there and caught a taxi back as there was too much to carry especially over distance. If I just need a pint of milk I will walk to our local corner store. In fact the only time I use my car is for long distance, to and from work and for the wekly shop. I will always walk for the school run and walk down to town and bus back up, cheaper than parking and far more healthy. Ellie :D

hey as2006,
well hubby and i usually go shopping by car once a week, but if he is working i will take the bus and then come home by taxi. There is a Spar 5 minutes from us, so if i run out of bread or milk i can just walk there. There is also a market near us which is open 4 days a week where i can buy fresh fruit/veg, so its quite handy.

Mentalmum, I would love to see your town someday. It sounds so quaint and picturesque when you describe it.

Since we have a Tesco Express literally across the road which caters for most of our daily needs, most of our shopping is done on foot. We also have a very good bus service that takes us to the very door of the larger Tesco and can also take us into town for other kinds of shopping, so we have no need of a car (and, since my daughter wrote ours off in February, haven't got one!)
I have found that just owning a car can cost between £1000 and £2000 a year, so it is much more economical to use the (free for me) bus service and to use taxis when required!

We must always use the car because we have no stores anywhere close to us. But that's ok because with three kids, we have to buy a lot of groceries when we do go to the store so we really need the car.

here where i am, it's really convenient to do anything and everything. i take the MRT (metro/subway) to work and there is a shopping centre where the MRT station is. most shopping centres are also just next to a MRT station so i don't really need a car to go shopping. however, i will use a car when i go grocery shopping. i do my grocery shopping about once or twice a month. a car is necessary to bring everything back as we prefer to buy in bulk. cheers ;p

Hi
Here there is a facility for home delivery. If it is grocery or supermarket shopping they will deliver all your things free to your home address. If I can get my things like that I always make it a point to do that. There is no point in pulling my husband with me whenever I want to go shopping.
Usually when I return from office daily, day to day things if I need anything, I buy. My husband will also be with me then. as also the car. So I can be=ring my things home then, no problem at all.
Only if we have to go a long distance for shopping I ask for my husbands help. Only on Sundays we get some free time together and so we would not generally like to go shopping on that day.

We are quit far from any store or mall, so my husband and I use our car every time we will go for shopping. How I wish we have closer place to us, so anytime in a day that I am just bored, I can just walk and relax by looking around!LOL!

We always take the car when we go shopping as first of all, the stores aren't close to us and secondly I tend to buy too much and would never be able to carry it all home and would have to call a cab if I didn't have the car with me. So for me it just wouldn't make sense to not take the car to go shopping. I always have at least 10 bags of groceries since I only go once a week to the store and make sure I never have to go back until the next week. I buy enough of everything to last that long, so I rarely run out of anything, but if I do run out of, say milk, I stop off at the store on my way home from work to pick it up so again, I have my car with me.

If I am only going food shopping then I go on foot, I am in walking distance of 3 supermarkets and 2 of them deliver my shopping for free, so it saves petrol in that respect.
If I need to go clothes shopping then all the good clothes shops are a little bit further away out of Town and so I have to go in the car. As I do not drive I have to con my hubby into taking me and coming with me. I say con because he absolutely hates clothes shopping, in fact he hates any kind of shopping!!

I don't have a car and so I do all my shopping on foot. There are some shops near to where I live but I often walk several miles to one of the big food stores where prices are lower and I don't mind carrying my food home. I always take bags with me which are easy to fill and to carry.

I go shopping on foot, or by bus if it's too far. I can't afford to drive.

I walk to the bus stop, and then I get on the bus. Yesterday I had to go across town to a place that was not near a bus stop, so I took a taxi, and then took one back downtown, where I lie. Most of the time I'l take a bus when I can get it. I do not own a car.

Mostly by driving because the shopping area is quite a distance away.

If I go shopping I always go by car, because the closest place to shop is atleast 15 minutes away, and espeically if we go to the next county over from us,because it is not safe to walk around on foot there, because you never know whats gonna happen.

I suppose it depends on the situation. If you aren't doing a heavy load of shopping and live reasonably close to the store, then leaving the car at home would certainly be more green. At the moment, I only shop for two; my girlfriend and I. The store is six blocks away and I typically only buy a few days worth of food at most. This lets me leave the car at home, save some gas money, and be more green! I hate it when my friends drive 8 blocks up the street to go to 7/11 or starbucks! Get out and walk a bit!
