Hi everyone!!Mom seems to be doing much better! Each day that goes by, it appears she's making leaps and bounds towards wonderful progress!! I never imagined anyone could bounce back as quickly as she has thus far and I pray that she continues to do so as the days ware on.
I wasn't too happy with the nurses or the cna's yesterday and I let them know it because we had arrived around 3 in the afternoon and found mom's legs off the bed and her gown and sheet disheveled and then I realized, she hadn't had a bath!! Oh I freaked out big time but not towards the nurses or aids but I made darn sure that it was a NO NO because this is MY mother and she's a clean woman and therefore better be well cared for. Oh I was livid to say the least!! They cleaned her up the best I can say, got her clean sheets and gown so she looked right nice when we got back into her room. I don't care if it's the weekend, my mom is there and she's paying for this care so she best get it or they'll hear from me.
Anyway, today as well as yesterday that she was adamant that she was going home and there was no changing her mind but thankfully today, the nurse gave her something to calm down and she was so relaxed that she fell asleep and kept waking up for a minute or two and fell back to sleep. We left soon after for she dearly needed her rest but before we did, I put some of her favorite lotion on her arms and hands and she grabbed my hand and pulled it to her mouth and kissed my hand over and over and over again!! She said some sentiments but I couldn’t make them out but the kisses told it all then she took my palm and put it to her cheek. It made me feel so darned good!! I mean, WOW!! (Smiling from ear to ear!)
The nurses started weaning her off the trech/ventalator and so far (crossing my fingers!!) she's doing great! Tomorrow she's going in for a swallow test and if she passes (again crossing my fingers!) she'll be able to drink something by mouth - finally! She wants a drink of water so badly and I really feel for her so much but we have to be sure she can drink it and that the fluid goes to her stomach and not her lungs like it was before. That's why she has a feeding tube. Gosh I hope she passes this test!!Now the stroke had affected her right side and she's right handed. She wasn't able to move her arm at all there for a while but now she can!! Yesterday was the first day and it's even better today!! YIPPEEE!!!!! She's just awesome!! She's making these huge leaps and bounds that we thought would take weeks or months for her to regain!! It's just so awesome!! God is Awesome!! I can't wait to see her tomorrow to see what leap and bound she's made because she's doing it every day now!!She doesn't have a lot of coordination yet but she's gained quite a bit of it back!! I'm telling you leaps and bounds!! She still can't talk but I've been able to lip read pretty much most of what she says so it's a jump start for the two of us!! YIPPEEEEE!! I'm just so excited about her progress!! I would not be one bit surprised if she comes home in two or even three weeks. Not one bit surprised for she's just incredible!! AND she's my MOM!!!!! I'm soooo darned proud of her!!

Believe me, she's had so many set backs at the hospital in Danville that we darned near lost her three times. One time she had about 10 minutes to live but thankfully the doctor knew what to do and did it which worked like a charm. I'm praying that is the last of the set backs but I'm prepared for more if one should arise. Right now she's in a rehab center which is very similiar to hospital settings but it's more laid back so she's getting the rest she so badly needs. Thanks for the warning though however, already am there for having done that already before! lol

That is what I call "good news". The best I heard for the day. You should really be proud of your mom. With her fighting spirit to live and to recover soon. But we should never stop our prayers for her. Prayers can do really makes miracles. Only God can tell what will happen next. I think the best thing that really gives her strength is your moral support and your love that you have been showing to her. I'll continue to be praying for your mom and your family. God Bless!!!

Thank you!! It's all because of you and all the others who've been praying for her that she's lived through this thus far and continues to improve!! I can't thank you or the others enough!! But I've gotta tell you though, if this isn't proof that God DOES exist then nothing is proof. Right? LOL I'm so excited for mom and feel she's going to make a wonderful come back and I can't wait till she does!!

Cats I am so happy to read this
I am also glad that you went mad and made sure they cleaned your Mum
That is how People start getting infections in Hospitals through neglect, Patients that can't do it themselves should get the full Attention on the Hygiene as there is so many Infections in Hospitals
I hope she carries on doing good and will soon be able to go home
A Big to your Mum and tell her from me to keep doing good and she is still in my thoughts very dearly and I hope to read soon that she is allowed home
Love and Hugs to you
I hope that your Hubby is ok now
Hugs

Congratulations. Prayers do work. When dad first moved in with me to take care of him myself, my wife, and my older brother thought he wopuld not last long as he was in real bad shape. But lo and behold, 5 years later I am still taking care of the old fart. Grats again and I am still praying.

.....and I bet she is so darned proud to have such a loving daughter as you.! What good news to hear she is doing so well. I am quite sure that your love and support had a lot to do with her recovery. Bless you! It is very important to me to know that there are some "good" children in this world you make the bad ones (such as my daughter) seem even more rotten.

Awww thank you whiteheather!! That's very sweet of you to say!! *blushing* lol But on the same hand, I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter. What a sad shame. Tell you what, Georgia isn't all that far from me, when my mom gets better, and if you need anything, let me know and I'll see what I can do! That's a promise!!

PRAISE G♥D!!!! This brought tears to my eyes, I am so happy for you and you are a wonderful daughter, your Mom should be just as proud of you if not more so...Good for you for letting the nurses know that you will not allow your Mother to be forgotten, she has someone who cares for her and expects the best treatment possible..

Awwww thank you so much!! That's really nice of you to say!! About the nurses, I had to tred lightly out of fear they'd mistreat my mom while I was gone because she can't talk. If they do, I CAN read lips!! lol That's the upside of being legally deaf!! lol

Hi, I'm sooooo glad that your mum is making good progress,it really is wonderful to hear. My mum had a stroke just about a year ago and it really was quite scary but she too has made a good recovery. Physically she is fine now, she still gets a little unbalanced when she's tired but to me thats nothing compared to how she could have been. She still has down days, apparently it is quite common for stroke patients to suffer from depression about six months after having had a stroke, but because we were aware of this we were able to get the right help straight away. It is sometimes hard to see when your mum is so upset but you have to keep strong and just remind yourself that it is just the effects of having had a stroke. I think it is times like this that the bond between family becomes even stronger. My prayers are with you and your family - keep strong. Much love.

Reading this has just made my day, I can feel your happiness and excitement all the way over here in the UK and it is just fantastic. I cannot believe either how quickly she is recovering, she is a fighter your Mum and I reckon that she will fight it until she is home as fast as she can.
I will keep hoping that she passes the test that she has to see if she can have something to drink, it will be so good for her to be able to have a drink of water and once she can start drinking then she will gain even more strength and recover even faster!!

That is wondereful how your mom is makeing a great come back from the sounds of what you are telling us. I hope and pray that she continues to do a good job. As far as the careing goes w/ her that I understand you being very upset about for it is the nurses job to make sure she is well taken care of. I would of been up one side and down the other if that were me. Your mom seem like a strong woman and I know she will get even stronger as time goes on. You are there for her everyday and that's great I know she greatly appreciates it very much and where she can't talk she show's you in other ways such as a smile or kiss on the hand. It's not easy being in a place like she is for the amount of time she has been.
Just rest assure that god will see her through this and she will be home w/ you before you know it. Good Luck and take care.

I am happy to hear about your mom. I can relate to you too well. Upon reading this, I felt a bit of pinch in my heart. I know how you feel. Back in 1995, my mom suffered from a stroke. She was bedridden for almost a year and she was really helpless. I gave up my work to take care of her. I was really hands-on on her. We cannot afford to hire a nurse to take care at home so I did all the dirty works quite literally. And like your mom, my mom was a clean freak. So I cannot see her get dirty. My brothers and I took care of her for 8 long years until she joined my dad.
You see, my mom had a stroke but my dad who was so healthy passed away ahead of my mom. It was devastating for us. But then, we survived. We were able to take care of her until the time that she needed to joined my dad. I missed them so much now.
I am happy for you that you still have your mom with you despite her present condition. I will include her in my prayer for her recovery. You take care too.
