Ok yesterday I replied to someone talking about ghost it was pretty much about what her husband said, As I was replying to what her husband had said, talking about ghost... Anyway I come on this morning to see my star down to a 9 I really don't care I'm not here to compete with other people... What really got me though was in the discussion she asked people to rate her negative.. Now why would someone ask others to do that? She wanted to get rid of her star, I don't believe there is a way to do that is there or am I missing something here? Oh and IS your Mylot star really that important to you to keep it a 10? Thanks in advance..

That seems odd to me too. I don't really pay attention to my star unless someone makes a discussion on it.
Why would she want everyone to mark her negative? Did you do it?
I would think that if you have a 10 star that tells others you are good at starting and responding to discussions.
I don't get how yours went down either.

hi sunshine, she said she was trying to get rid of the star, I don't believe there is anyway of doing that I think you can get low as a 1 but still have it.. I don't get it either... I am sure she negative my reply so that brought me down to a 9 that's ok I can careless I enjoy the site alot and a down rating isn't going to chase me away..

WEll, I just rated you positive for this discussion and your response to me, so hopefully that helps.
I dont' get what the big deal is with the stars for this person. I guess to each his own.

The stars were not an issue until a few weeks ago when a lot of good members experienced huge drops in star ratings due to trolls. People were upset by this because yes it is just a star, but when it drops suddenly it means you are being rated negative, to some people they felt that it meant that they were not liked until us, their friends put them at ease about it.
But some members left due to all the bad feeling. The ones that are asking you to rate them negative are simply at the point that they have had enough of it and so just want the star rating finished, and so until it is scrapped they do not want their stars, the only way to get the star down is to rate them negative when they ask you too. The more people rate another persons discussion or comment to a discussion negative then the lower the star rating will fall, as it is based on a points system out of 100.

Thats to bad that people were leaving over a little star next to there names.. As one says it's just a star.. Sometimes though people feel they have done something wrong, You know though there are way to many great people here to let that get in the way.. As long as you have your friends you don't need a star to say how good you really are.. Just my oppion and thanks for the reply!!

My pleasure!! So you too wish to be star free, well, I am only too happy to help with your cause if it is what you want.
I did not know that it disappeared if it went below 4 though!! So the race is on is it to see who can get rid of it fastest, well I expect I know who your friend is and if I am right then I have been negging her too, but I will help any of those who wish to be star free!!!

Well, I am at 8 for one month . I am trying to get 10 here , but I think its not easy . I don't get positive rate for my responses and discussion , I think .
I feel , If you have friends here then they will rate you positive and then you can get 10 in your star and can keep it . Otherwise no care about rate ...
Thanks !!!

It is sorta hard to get a 10 but once you got it it's really nothing special or at least I haven't seen anything special about it.. It's just a number with a blue star.. lol

Of course not, I wanted to know what others really thought about this star next to our names, Really I don't care if it's blue, red, pink or orange.. It's not the color of a star that makes the difference is the person behind the screen that makes the difference... Understand what I mean?

The star isn't important at all and I never pay attention to anyone else's star. But I use mine as a personal yardstick to let me know if I am keeping up on my discussion quality. It's just a little thing that means something to me personally, not a badge or sign for anyone else. There is no competition in Mylot so the star has little meaning to anyone else really.

I don't either I feel everyone is going to say what they want when they want and how ever they want.. A star though isn't what this site is really all about it's helping others giving advice and making new friends.. At least thats what it is for me.. Thanks for your reply!!

when I first came to mylot I was rated a ten very shortly and
I felt sort of pround thinking that my fellow mylotters
must think highly of me. than I made a few discussions that
got a lot of responses but also a lot of really insulting
responses. then overnight I went to a nine then ten back to nine then someone really did a number and in two days I slid to a six but am now up to a seven and my rating is slowly moving up in
points. I am not competing but think it wrong of people to hit minus
just because their opinion does not agree with yours. People can deliberately hit the minus key so many times they can slid your number way down but they have to be deliberately doing this for a long period of time.

thats what happened to me i had a 10 for over a year and than when i came on this morning I was a 9 I thought to myself oh real nice someone don't like me and it's to bad they didn't like what I had to say, however it was MY OPINION , they could of simply ignored it and moved on to the next reply... Oh well we all learn mainly from the day before to whom to reply too and whom not too.. Just that simple.. Thank you so much for your reply!

I couldn't care less about my star. I was a 93 yesterday, today I'm 80-something. Whatever. I'd rather be stuck at 7, as I like white. Plus, the white star blends in with the white background here. I know not everyone is going to agree with what I wil post, an dif they they get their immature jollies by giving me a negative rating, so be it. It really doesn't phase me on bit. It isn't like it affects my pay.

I really like your reply! Your right though people will agree with what you have to say the star don't make a person it's the person who is typing that makes the difference! Your also right about affecting our pay cause I don't believe it does either.. We are all here for conversation not rating people negative just to make ourselves feel better... Happy posting!

not really on the star thing..but i guess its an additional bonus or shall we say incentives..i had also read that discussion about ghost and requesting us to give her a negative ratings..maybe its a reverse psychology she had applied on us so that we cant give her a negative one?just asking really not trying to provoke anyone here...on my part i really dont give a negative rating to anyone even if the discussion is below the belt or whatever..what i did was ignore and proceed to another discussions...i dont respond to those kind of discussions..

Vanities thank you, I am glad I am not the only person that seen this.. Honest... I should of done the exact same thing but I didn't, My mistake and that's fine.. I said what I did and there is nothing anyone can do.. However she wanted me to rated her - as well and it so happens I didn't... I didn't rater her at all actually and after reading the FAQ's I'm glad I didn't because it's against mylot rules... Have a wonderful day!

How strange, it doesn't really make a lot of sense to see your star drop over something like that. For what it's worth I am happy to rate you +. I don't really notice the stars and ratings on here, and I'm not sure if the rating system really works anymore anyway.

That makes me wonder too if it does or not... I would of thought when My points when down a few weeks ago my star color would have too.. Over all though I am not worried about it, I do what I need to do here and that's what counts.. Thanks for you reply!!

I don't care that my star is only a 9. I am happy with what I have to say and the way I say it if others can't handle the truth they shouldn't of asked the question to start with. I don't really rate anyone anymore. I don't start as many discussions like I use to start.

Very good answer, Sometimes people think that the star is everything.. You make more and such but it's not true you make what you do because you put effort in what you do and reply to things that you want too... Thanks for you reply!

Hi dear
have u seen the Yo Yo game?
star system at mylot os like that, some times go down, then up then down, and i really dont care about that, 3-4 days back i was 93, then slip to 92 and now 91 now i am waiting for Yellow color.
I never worried about star rating nor about earning i just like the company of my friends and thats important to me.
i started a discussion as what happened to me in these 2-3 days, just check it out
http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1522735.aspx
take care and enjoy

Hi Cupid, It's sorta funny how this whole yo yo thing works.. I can remember about two weeks ago when I logged into mylot i lost well over 50 points and couldn't figure them out.. But to know I wasn't alone in this it made me feel a tad bit better.. My thought was I was replying to posts that have been deleted. It didn't drop my star or anything like that just my points and it took me a bit to get back up where I was at.. I have been careful answering posts sense this has happened, But you know we all answer them even if you think it won't be deleted... Thanks for your reply!

hi nomoso I do it's a red 9 :)... You know on the earning part of this every day is different, I almost made a dollar yesterday with all the activity I did on here, The more you reply and a few topics made can make a difference in the earnings.. Alot of people are right the star really don't mean anything, I did read though it just helps mylot know which are quality topics and which aren't, so there is no effect in earning wise... However I am not worried about the color of my star this isn't what brought me here it's my friends!!! Thanks for your reply and I hope I answered your quiestion!!

I dont really understand whats her purpose in asking to rate her negative.
Anyway, I've been with myLot for about 2 months now and I don't really know exactly how these stars and ratings affects our earnings. All I know is I like to have a 10 for I find having it as something that is being worked on. I know our ratings wont just raise up if we didnt do anything.
On the other hand I also wonder why others who got 10 or 9 easily lowers to 7 or 8. Is it really because someone else rated them negative? Not really sure with this.

Yes I believe so, a 10 don't just fall over night.. But than again who knows right here is a link all about the subject and as far as I can see it don't effect earnings it just helps mylot control topics... http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq17.aspx

Your star will rise again. I am sure of that.
I don't think any less of anyone with a lower star rating. It does not mean they are no good at responding. Some people will give a negative rating if they disagree with an opinion, even though this goes against myLot guidelines.
It would not be right to ask people to give you a positive rating so I don't think it can be right to ask for a negative one.

You are so right! Last night I was in the FAQ section and did see that.. I do believe it's also against the rules to ask people to rate you - as well.. I am not 100% sure on this.. What i just don't understand is that if the star don't make a difference than why are people asking each other to rate them negative... They shouldn't worry about it and just move on.. Just my oppion! Thank you for your reply and pointing this out as well...

Personally I don't understand why it's a big concern but I respect their wishes sort of. I cannot rate most of these folks negatively. I don't use the minus sign unless someone was extremely abusive. Even then I hestitate to use it. I simply refrain from rating those who I know are on the quest to rid the star. :) Everybody else gets a positive and I'm one of those who will go right down the list pressing the little plus sign. I just like to give pluses. :)
I'm so sorry that this happened to some on here and I'm sorry that I can't hit that neg sign but I will respect your quest and not rate you if that is what you are doing.

No no that's not what I am asking, Your welcome to rate what I've said.. What I just don't get is why people would want to be rated negative.. Just to lose the star, Sooner or later they will get it back anyway... And I also wanted to know what people thought of the stars and what it meant to them as well.. Thanks for your reply!

We get stars on here? I didn't even notice. and to reply to your question: if i did know that i had a star and saw it go down, i would wonder why but if i conclude that i have not done anything wrong then i would assume that the person who knocked me down was just not a nice person. it is pretty obvious that that is the kind of person who you were dealing with. one person is not going to change who i am. the star is just a representation of how people think of you, but most of the time it is just random people. if someone ever did that to me, i'd just brush it off becuase it doesn't really affect my life personally. anyway, thats how i feel.

hi Duksa yes you will get one once you reach 100 posts, I believe it's been so long sense I was at 100 posts.. My star really don't mean anything to be honest with you, I was just wondering what others thought about it.. But for someone to go around and say - my discussion yeah it may show they don't really care about the star but at the same time mylot is looking at this as bad topics too.. Something that some of these people should think about.. But that is just my oppion... Thanks for your reply!
