An old question but easy to answer if you believe the words in the bible. Genesis 1:24-25. Since God created all things and then told them to multiply it has to be the chicken.
If you don't believe what you read in the bible then I would still have to say the chicken because you would need both sexes in order to fertilize the egg to become a chicken.
What do you think?

If your question is egg first or chicken first, then
the egg came first..
In the process of evolution the ancestor species of the hen layed the egg from which the chicken emerged in the process of evolution..
but if your question is did chicken came first or the hen's egg, the the answer is the chicken came first.. as the chicken is necessary to lay a hen's egg..
during evolution there were many cross fertilizations which resulted in mixing of different similar species which later give rise to hen..

I was reading something this morning about the great complexity of the egg.. and once it's fertilized it has enough info within it to fill 500,000 pages of text.. I guess that was about the human zygote(I think it's called, the fertilized human egg). So my answer would be the egg, since it has within it the instructions for the whole being which grows of it.. This alos makes me think of a question - "where does information and instructions come from?"

yes it is truly amazing the code of life and how it came into being. One question leads to another to another. That is why the Bible gives a blueprint to how life should be lived.
You, your mom, everyone and everything living today came from a fertilized egg. Now where did the first egg come from? Where did the first fully formed living thing come from? The Bible says God made the first fully formed and gave them the power to reproduce. That would be Eve. This is what I believe ... I really liked hearing your point of view.

We had been studying the creation in the Bible with our two grandchildren about a year ago. I asked them this exact question, it took them over a week to hash it out and get it straight in their minds. It was cute how they would talk to one another and try to figure it out. Finally the light bulb above the head goes on and they say yes! The chicken because God created the chicken and all the animals!!! Right!

Old question new answer. That sure is a new way of defending the answer to that question which has started so many discussions. It is indeed uniques that the bible is now being used to support an answer to it. I can't quasrrel with your logic. Indeed the egg can't go out and multiply as it can't walk nor can it fertilize itself.

Ooh! Ooh! God could make TWO eggs! =]
^My stab at hyper-humour. -Lol-
I lean for Intelligent Design, but that's far beyond the point. I think that first was mutant chicken-ish things(Created by two old kinds of birds mating on Noah's ark after their mates went woo-hoo and jumped off the boat), then they had eggs, and so on until we have a bona-fide CHICKEN! -holds up a chicken- =D

laughing at the skinny chicken you are holding ... If God made 2 eggs =] then you are saying that it was the egg that came first (I think) but then you say mutant chicken-ish which would make it the full grown was first.
Chicken=came into being as whatever already formed didn't have to grow from an egg.
Egg=came into being by the process of reproduction.
So forget chicken and eggs LOL which came first in your opinion. Just came into being or came from reproduction?

I've been hearing this question for years, and now that I think of it logically, the chicken came first, just like Adam and Eve were created as adults. If the adult animals and humans were created firs, and they pro-created and had "babies" hen the chicken must have come before the egg.

about nature still can not be answered.I aways think that the nature is so mysterious, everything in nature comes naturely, but sometimes we do not know how it comes.

biblically speaking ...I did not find any egg as part of God's creation.
God is a mentor about planting seeds(egg) to harvest...but that has already been designated to man.
plain as it is...chiken comes first...they can be part of the birds of the air.
