Do you miss your computer while on holiday?

I went to Spain for a few days break earlier this year. Despite the great time that I had, I actually found myself missing my computer in the evenings. Has anyone else gone on holiday and missed using their computer, or is it simply that I am a sad old individual?

Though i dont really go on much of holidays as such but yeah..Considering the question in different light..I really do miss my computer quite a bit whenever i am away from it for for quite some time. But on a second thought..Whenever i am away from my computer..I use my celphone for the same puposes that i use my computer for.So it jz balances it all and i can jz forget any getting away from computer n all.

I would never consider using my mobile phone for internet or email. My last 3 phones had these features and I never used them once. I see little point in using a tiny screen when I am used to a 19" monitor.

Yes I do. I think I am addicted to computer and internet. I even get up at half pas five in the morning just to logon to my mylot. Well, it's the website I mostly miss above all. I can't stay too long in a place where there is no internet connection or internet shop. The first thing that I ask or look for when I get to a new place is where's the internet shop if the home I'm staying doesn't possess a computer.

I do not bother with internet cafés etcetera, but I still miss the computer.

I can appreciate the difference, because I am accustomed to having my own computer at home with no restrictions and therefore internet cafés become a secondary value. If I did not have my own connection I would probably think differently. It is the little things that matter, like listening to an opera of my choice in the background while using the computer.

Well, I understand. Here in the UK most people have computer at home but where I came from it's not the same. It's too bad I got a heavy PC that I couldn't carry with me anywhere I went.

There are certainly a great number of people that depend on a computer for tasks that were previously performed without one. I use Microsoft Excel to monitor my finances, and despite the fact that I had no problem prior to owning a computer I would be lost withpout it now.

You're not a sad old individual. I miss my computer when I'm homing for a holidays during semester break. Not enough with computer, I miss my cool bike as well. Basically, the feeling starts to get the control over me when I see something that remind me to my computer and my bike. It strange to actually miss something that don't have feelings, but maybe ... it is because that object have the sentimental value. I don't know, just guess ...

It is quite surprising how we can become so fond of inanimate objects, but it is good to know that I am not alone.

If you are a sad old individual, then so am I. I am so addicted to having a computer in front of me for hours each day, that when I am overseas on holiday and don't have my PC with me, I feel like I am without an arm or a leg. But then, without the PC around, there is one less distraction and I can enjoy my holiday better also. One thing I am wary about using public PCs overseas, be it at the airport, hotel, shopping mall or internet cafe, is the level of protection they offer. Some PCs I've come across don't allow me to invoke the Windows onscreen keyboard, and so I will usually use these with much caution. I will avoid going into sites like internet banking or stock broking where I have no choice but to key in my user ID and passwords using the physical keyboards to access my accounts. I think many of these PCs don't even have proper firewall, or anti-virus and anti-spyware protection, and that's scary.

This is a very wise precaution and good advice to anyone else who uses public internet access. I would never access my bank account via a public system because you have no idea how secure the system is, or even if there is any security at all.

Once I was in an airport waiting to use a free public internet workstation in the transit lounge. When the guy in front of me left the workstation and I took over, I found that the guy logged into his email and didn't log out before he walked off. I could see all his email folders there, and promptly logged off for him, before proceeding to surf the net. He was very careless, and anyone could have played puck with his account without him knowing. It may be fine at home, but at a public workstation, leaving your accounts logged on and having your sensitive information stolen due to viruses and keyloggers present, are very risky indeed. It is something we need to take seriously for our own protection.

I have a laptop but it did not occur to me to take it with me on holiday. I did not expect to have any use for it while away, which was quite naive of me.

Well, back before I bought my laptop a yr. and a half ago, it has hard for me to be away as I always found myself having Internet and Computer withdrawals, and actually trying to find places with Computers or Email access as well. Now that I have my laptop even if I am usually really busy during the day, I still have a chance to get online while winding down for the night and check some Email or log here into myLot for a moment or two as well.

No, I don't really miss it. As I enjoy my travel and that's not so interesting for me to get online at that time. I love China

I enjoy travelling as well, so I did not anticipate missing my computer. How very wrong I was.

I am usually on holiday at one of my kids' house but if I can't be on it for a couple of days it drives me nuts! I love my puter! And I love communicating with my mylot friends on a daily basis! Most of the time though...I can use theirs.

Not on a holiday but been somewhere and wished i was at home on the computer in my lots. Why didn't you have a lab top that would have helped. In the mean time you can get a lab before your next vacation so that won't happen. Also didn't Spain have a computer lounge like we have in the US. Where you can get on line and pay for the time that you use?

I do have a laptop, but I had not considered the need for one and saw no point in taking it with me. As for internet cafés, I was tempted to use one to access my work email but decided against it.

It's been awhile since I've been on holiday, but on the occassions when our internet at home has been out of action I have definately missed my computer. I'm a member of several forums and interactive sites like this one and I like to keep on top of what's going on in the world via the net too as I don't have a television. Even things like looking up telephone numbers or maps, I automatically reach for the mouse. When it's not there I wonder how else I'll manage! How on earth did we cope before internet?!

To miss the facility while at home makes perfect sense, but I was surprised that I missed it while on holiday and should have been relatively distracted.

I seem to be the reverse and miss the computer itself more than just internet access.

nah mate your sad!!!! haha only joking! a holiday is a way to escape your everyday life and soak up the sun and sea! however, if your PC is your lifeline then invest in a laptop. There are usually loads of free WiFi features around them parts and i bet that when you do have it you'll never use it on holiday you just think you miss it 'cos it's what your used to having!

You are probably right about that, I would possibly end up not using it at all. The very fact of not having my computer is likely to have created the desire in the first place.
