My Friend Iris

I just moved here last Sept so I have no idea what may have been planted around here before, but I dug up some irises I found and re-planted them along a privacy fence hiding the shed and also a few in my front garden area.
I have no idea when is a good time to do all that, but it was free and I wanted them moved, so I did it anyway. Well they all survived the transition just fine and most are starting to flower. I believe I will have two colors, this pretty lavender color and another that looks to be a dark brownish/burgundy color (they're not quite open yet).
So, do you like my friend Iris? What sort of flowers do you have coming up now?

You have iris' flowering after transplanted them within a year? I don't know much about iris', but I have some I transplanted last about a year and a half ago and was told they didn't bloom last year because they don't bloom the first year after transplanting..
Though I should have realized something else is wrong when they are not blooming this year either..

Your iris' are very pretty, but all I have blooming right now are my pansies, and that was because they were already in bloom when I planted them..

I didn't transplant the bulbs because I didn't know they were they until they came up. Most were up at least 2-3 inches so I knew what they were, and then transplanted them.
But yes, a good number of them are flowering quite nicely. The funny thing is, a few of them are still not very tall, and they are going to flower too!
They're still just buds right now, but I will get pictures of those when they start opening. It really is comical, they look like dwarves.

Oh, so they were already budding when you transplanted? Then I wonder, shouldn't mine be blooming this year? It will be 2 years this fall..

I love the pruple. Here is a shot of the many Irises I have. These are around the base of one of my apple trees. They are yellow. Not a single bud yet though due the cold spring so far here. I have 2 other areas where I have just a few planted. I have none blooming yet. But my apple tree does have blossoms.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Nice!
I don't have a large bunch in any one spot, I spread them out quite a bit. One bunch I pulled apart and put along the fence line, all in a row, and the rest I scattered 2-3 small shoots in various spots.
I'm sure they'll all fill in nicely, though.

Glad your iris' survived the transition. I only have a rose bush, that has peach colored roses on it. It's a very old rose bush because I've lived here for about 13 years and it was here way before I moved here. I also have tulips that come up every year that were also planted before I moved here but they have already bloomed and are already gone.
I do have hens and chickens that are very hardy that I brought with me from where I lived before and they sometimes bloom.

I love hens and chicks! My husband has two large pots here full of them that belonged to his grandmother. They have survived in these same pots with the same dirt for a couple of decades, at least.
We are letting some of them fall here to start new plants in the ground. They are amazing to watch. If you put the pot on a hard surface, they don't do as well. Set the pot in the dirt and they will come back like crazy - it's funny how nature knows what's best!

I love bearded Iris. We have some of those and roses and hosta. I planted some gladiola bulbs last winter in a barrel that we had to move to the front yard because the dog kept digging in it. I had forgotten all about them and thought the dog had pretty much dug out everything in it. Boy was I surprised to see glads about 4 feet tall and blooming like craZy last weekend. Nice surprise. I know he killed the foxglove that was in there though.

Yes, any bulbs coming up is always a surprise. I had a ball when the daffodil and grape hyacinth popped up all over the place in the woods right beside our driveway.

Oh what fun, I love finding what other people have planted, then shuffeling every thing around. Sounds like they survived the transition well. I have also found when I replant it always seems to bring new life into the plants transferd. I have the dark purple ones. My tulips, crocus, have all bloomed already. Now the iris and the lilies are coming up. Plus I have a nice patch of lily of the valley. They are ready to bloom soon I think as well. Also the Lilacs are in full bloom right now. They only last for a minut, so I am enjoying them alot also. They are right outside my kitchen window. I just love the smell.

That great you have a lilac bush there, they are one of my favorite flowering bushes. We have been so darn cold this year they just bloomed like yesterday, and since we both know how fleeting they are I have my window there wide open to fill my house with the smell. But the Lilys of The Valley , have not bloomed yet. Sounds like you are njoying your new yard though. Fun.

There's a good sized lilac bush in the backyard too, as well as lily of the valley. Both are already gone.

I love to see irises in flower. There are many varieties out now where I live. I live in an apartment and have nowhere to grow things but I can enjoy seeing them in the lovely rock garden just two minutes walk from my home.

As I said above, I had some irises once that I didn't really care for, but these are very pretty.
I've noticed that everyone has the same type around here, basically all of them that I've seen in a several mile radius are the same two colors. It was the same with the daffodils too.
I know they propagate and divide well, so I guess everyone has been sharing!
