You pay the bill at the supermarket say to the cashier "have a nice day" Again as you are receiving your meal through the drive through window, or to the teller at the bank whatever. Do you wish these people Have a nice day? I found myself saying this alot lately. Must be my customer service background coming through.

I HATE the words "Have a nice day" with a passion. What kind of day am I supposed to have, a miserable one? Is that all that people can say, because if it is, they need to shut up. Plus, I refuse to utter those words. I'm really surprised that those words have not become cliched already.

scribe1 you are an unpleasant person. Why would you dislike 'Have A Nice Day'. Someone telling you these words does not want you to have a miserable one but instead a pleasant one. If you are having a miserable one then when hearing these words hopefully your day will change. My God Have an open mind when someone tell you these pleasantries.

I think I tend to say this reflexively. It is polite. I like the etiquette. It doesn't hurt, just takes a moment, and I think I even say it without thinking about it. It is good to acknowledge people as persons instead of just treating them like machines to do a job for you. I guess that's my general take on the matter.

I do say thanks and have a nice day/night to the lady at the supermarket but not so much to the cashier at the drive through window or the bank but I still will say thanks though. I do find myself telling mylotters have a nice day more then other people.Have a nice evening.

Yes! I say "have a good day" all the time. I think it does stem from training for me, too. Just like how all of my money has to be facing the same direction...lol.

It is good to see that politeness is coming back. Yes it is nice when you tell someone to have a nice day because some people days are so rough and when someone tell them this with a smile it make their day. For sometimes now I have not say it but seeing that it is coming back I definitely will start again.

I used to say this alot too in the past when I held different jobs. I still say it sometimes but not alot because I work from home now. Most customer service people do not say it anymore in person or on the phone. I wander why they have stopped being so nice to everyone? I think it is because their lives are so stressful and hectic also. They are too stressed to be nice to people.

I worked in customer service for years, so I am always saying "thank you" "have a lovely day", etc. It shocks and pleases many cashiers, as they have to deal with some amazingly rude people all day long.

I normally say "You too" if they have said it to me.
