Laundry Detergent

Since we all must wash or clothes, or at least most of us :) we need detergent. With a struggling economy, and rising costs of many things, I am forced to purchase the not so top of line laundry soap. Does anyone have any ideas for good smelling, cost effective soap? I have tried a few, but some of them don't even seem to have a scent.

I do wash my own clothes since I noticed that the maids do not do a very good job and there is a smell to my clothes even when they are newly-washed. The important thing in washing clothes is the rinse. I wash my clothes by hand and I make sure to rinse of the detergent properly.

That is a good idea since who knows what happens during that cycle :) Sometimes there are too many clothes to rinse properly, so handwashing might do the trick. Thanks!
