When I am sitting in the recliner or on the couch and the laptop on my lap, it really gets hot to my lap! I have put a pillow on my lap and the laptop on it. I saw the other day at a store that they have a reclined stand to sit the laptop on so the heat can come out from under the laptop. Well, it was almost $20 so I have to do a lot of mylotting to get the $$ to pay for that. I am trying all kinds of suggestions. Thanks for yours and God bless you.

The heat of the laptop coming from the CPU got heating up after long use. I think it is not advisable to put a laptop on your lap even though it is call a laptop loll. Not only the heat is bad for your health but also the radiation from the CPU. That's why if you put the laptop on any part of your body you might feel a slight disturbance to your heart beat. Even sometimes using the keyboard you can feel that. So it is better still put it on the table or any other surface other than your lap when using it.

Yeah i guess so. Never put the laptop on your lap it can be bad for health. The CPU has powerful electrical wave depending on how fast it process. You need to put it on something like table or buy a cooling pad to reduce the amount of heat.

hearing it for the first time here in mylot and guess it has to do something for the head ache i suffer these days. Just bought a laptop few days back And i have been suffering from a sort of dizziness for the past few days. May be this might not be the reason but let me try by staying away or keeping it away for few days ,just away from my lap .

My daughter uses a tv stand to put hers on and uses it that way. I'm sure they are cheaper than $20 and probably could find something at the goodwil cheap as well.

Hi,
My laptop is very hot too but I never put it on my lap. I will put it on table or any other flat surface. I hope the fan of my laptop is not broken.
I think that it is not very good to place a pillow under your laptop because it will cause the heat flow in your laptop unable to flow out properly and will cause damage to your laptop. I suggest that you buy a laptop cooler to make your laptop cooler.
Have a happy day.

My laptop is a Toshiba, and it tends to get hot if I run it for long periods of time. I no longer use it on my lap, but on a table.. and also shut it down from time to time so it has a chance to cool off.
I also went to the hardware section at Wal Mart and bought some silicone "feet" for it, which are a bit taller than the ones the manufacturer put on there. It gives the laptop a bit more room for air flow, which seems to help keep it cooler longer. Hope this helps..

It's a fan being blocked, or a vent on the side or back. It isn't recommended you use a laptop on the carpet or fuzzy bed or similar, cause the fans get blocked and heat up the insides of the computer.
Put it on a tray or something solid, or go buy that chillmat-esque thing ;) My brother has one and it keeps his lappy real cool.

A cushion under your laptop isn't a good idea, because there is no-where for the hot air to escape from the bottom of your laptop. Until you can buy a stand for it, try using a breakfast tray or something similar; it will let the air flow underneath the laptop, and keep your lap from getting hot!

Hi Mamacathie, that's the main problem of laptop, it overheat. I've seen one time in our local computer accessory store a laptop base with built-in fans. Nothing too fancy about 1.5in in height that only contain 2 fan and power source to be plugged in a USB port. So its main function is just to suck out heat. Try looking for it which is light and quiet while your awaiting your mylot earning.)

My laptop draws air in from the bottom an blows it out the side. My brother suggested I never block the intake or out air places on it. So I went down to Walmart and got a tilted laptop stand that is basically a mesh wire thing that tilts the laptop so it's easier to type and it has PLENTY of air circulation they also make a cooling pad for laptops they work way better than what I have and I am going to get one of those soon to go along with what I have.
Wire mesh laptop stand = 15.00
Cooling laptop pad = 25.00
I know that's not cheap but it sure does help.

I think putting your laptop on your lap when using it is not advisable especially to men because it can make you sterile because of the heat. Not only one of my friends gave me this advice.
Whenever I use my laptop, I make sure that the location I put it is level so that the heat sink can have well ventilated air. Using a pillow can trap the hot air and will only just make the laptop hotter.

It is never recommended to put your laptop directly on your lap. It's pretty silly since it is called a laptop but you don't want to cause any harm to yourself or the laptop. Putting it on top of the bed or pillow is not good either because it does cover the vents and does not allow the heat to circulate out of the laptop and you can burn out the components and damage your system. It is best to use something like one of those tv trays if you want to sit on your bed.
I actually spent the $20 on that little stand and it was well worth it. I had the same problem and the heat was too much to handle after a while. I use the little stand and it has holes so it lets the bottom of the laptop breath and the air circulates to the sides and not directly on your legs. It's really neat and useful. If you get a chance I suggest you purchase it. I'm sure you will find it useful.

My HP laptop has always been that way. I have sent it off twice and they cleaned it out. They told me to get once of the laptop coolers. I found it at Circuit City. It has a usb plug that plugs in my computer and it has two fans that run underneath the laptop. I got the stand thing like you have to and it doesn't really work. The cooler runs about $20 too.
