Someone my husband works with delivers the newspaper in our area, and gives us a free one everyday. We never read it! It goes from the paper box to my recycling bin instantly!
My husband has politely asked him to stop, but he's one of those guys who doesn't listen. He keeps saying "oh, it's free, just take it!".
Anyways, you mylotters are so wonderful with finding some amazing uses for things... so I'm wondering... what can I use all these newspapers for?

You may want to look into donating them to a local elemenatry school, preschool or childcare. I have worked in all three places and newspaper is always something we could use. I'm sure there are many other things you can do with them, I just think that they would be grateful to take them off of your hands.

Now that's not a bad idea... just send them into school with my kids. Even if the school does nothing more than recycle them.. at least the paper went further than my bin :D

Yes, but after that point you'd have to throw them in the trash, wouldn't you? Sure they get a bit more life, but that almost seems a bit more wasteful because then it's not being recycled.

I've never tried it so I can't say for sure it works but I was told a neat idea. If you go camping or do anything with campfires, you roll a stack of newspapers up very tightly a secure with twine. It's supposed to be a perfect "starter log".

Well I don't camp, but I'm sure that would be a neat idea for anyone who does or who has a wood stove. Thanks for sharing.

If you have a local animal shelter, call to see if the shelter could use the newspaper. I volunteered for four years at the humane society here, and we were always running out of newspaper. I started a newspaper drive after I left, and they are so grateful for any newspaper if that's what the shelter uses for their cages.

Now there's a thought. Get rid of my papers and help my favorite charity. It's amazing that I didn't think of that myself. Thanks

All of those above are great ideas as well!
I usually take all of ours to either a daycare center that my friend works at or to a local animal shelter. The daycare loves them because the kids don't paint anywhere near the actual paper, and this saves the tables at the center.

We live in a small rural town in Kansas. I had a similiar situation, except that we purchased a subscription from a major market newspaper from a town two hours away. So you don't think I am nuts to pay for a subscription that I ended up not reading, allow me to explain. We wanted to be able to save articles, box scores, and state standings for our local girls' basketball team...the only problem was...our coach decided to not report anything to the papers this past year.
We recycle our newspapers here, so I save them in a Rubbermaid container until I could use them. Newspaper is a great for Lasagna gardening, so a good portion of our newspaper stash was used as sheeting/mulch. Shredded newspapers can also be placed in your compost pile. I have also made seed starter plugs from newspaper, which biodegrade in your garden.
As a teacher, we used newspaper to line animal cages, to cover desks when we were painting, and for paper mache projects. I was always glad for parents to send in extra newspapers.

Lol, I would love all those newspapers. I would shred the black and white pages and make them into dirt on my compost pile. The colored ones I would donate to a church that has paper and cardboard recycling dumpsters.

We can recycle them ourselves. Every home is given a blue bin and when the trash truck comes around every week, another follows it specifically to take recyclables. We don't get anything for it, but so what, it's helping the environment and cutting down on trash.
I can compost them myself as well, I've just started composting.
I was really just wondering if there are other uses around the house. I like to use things a few times before discarding them... or at least it's a habit I'm trying now, lol.

Have you considered recycling them?
Or, try reading them for a change! I highly recommend reading newspapers to keep yourself current with events unfolding in the real world...

Yes I recycle them. That's the only thing I do is toss them in my recycling bin, I believe I said that in my post. I wanted to know if there was anything useful to do with them before I recycle them.
I have no need to read them because I watch the news on TV and read it on the internet which is much more efficient for me.

katsmeow1213 i Would package the papers and take
them to a recycling place and get paid for them.
An elderly negro guy used to come around to our
apartment and take all our papers as he got paid
so much a pound for them and he said it helped with
his social security. I really know of now other use
'for them myself.

I dont know which country you are from and the system you follow there. But we have shops that buy olf newspapers for each Kilogram, old note books and magazines depending on the quality of paper. It then is carried by the re-cylce company trucks and is being used in various ways b such companies. Also, here some local shopkeepers buy it to pack items for customers. So you could try calling the helpline to find such places and sell the papers in bulk to them. You earn a little money (atleast more than what mylot pays you) and you help the country and the company that searched for old/used newspapers. If you have kids, do help them use the papers for creative purpose and show off their talents with their friends and school.

We live in a small rural town in Kansas. I had a similiar situation this past fall/winter with a substription from a major market newspaper that prints individual sports rankings for high school athletes from across the state. In years past, when I didn't have a subscription, we oftentimes missed being able to purchase one from our local market. Well, this past season our coach decided to NOT post any stats or team info to ANY newspaper. The papers just piled up, because I don't take the time to read anything other than those stats. I ended up with 4 months of daily newspapers piled in our Rubbermaid recycle container.
Newspapers are awesome as sheeting for Lasagna Gardening. A good portion of the newspapers lined new vegetable beds as a weed/grass barrier. I also used some of the newspapers to construct seed pots for my seedlings. Shredded newspaper was added to my compost pile.
As a teacher, I was always happy to see parents come in with arm loads of newspapers. We used them for paper mache, lined the class pets cages, and used them to protect the desks during painting and craft projects. One year we even used shredded newspapers in our classroom worm bin.

We never read ours either so I cancelled it. Saved us $31 every three months. They have most of the news on their website anyway. I would tell the delivery man again to stop delivering them because it is wasteful and not good for the enviroment. I get all my MIL's newspapers and give them to the local humane society or using them for packing in my ebay stuff. Are you on your local freecycle.org group?? You could post them there and see if anyone needs them.

Yes I am on Freecycle, but mine doesn't do very well. Our freecycle has more outrageous posts, not really people trying to recycle, but more people trying to get free stuff. They have asked for boats, cars, appliances. I get so frustrated sometimes because asking for those sorts of things aren't the meaning of freecycle.
Right now I'm so annoyed at Freecycle because last week I requested a piece of trash.. an old unused garbage can or something of the sort, didn't matter the condition because I was going cut it up anyways. Do you think of all the people on Freecycle that 1 of them could have come up with this item? Instead I had to purchase a brand new garbage can to cut up. How frustrating.

Television covers bird's eye view of what is happening in your locality or in your country or for that matter the whole world. But newspapers do give a bit mroe detailed account of facts and figures. So it is better to spend atleast 30 to 45 minutes reading newspapers. You are lucky that some one delivers free of cost. After reading (in India it fetches 1/4 the cost of the newspaper when it is sold to old paper merchants who send their representative home to collect)! Another additional income!

The humane society and similar groups can always use old newspapers. I have a firend with several cats and she takes all the papers that a friend gives to me. Many vet offices are willing to take old newspapers to cover the floors of the kennels. They are also good for "lasagna" gardening. The paper composts down and keeps the weeds to a low. I hope these ideas are helpful in some way.

Hi katsmeow1213.
Practically any public school classroom from about 4th grade on up would love to have them to use as reading assignments for the kids. Also, nursing homes would no doubt appreciate having free papers for their residents to read.
I've never made much out of paper machier (is that the right way to spell that?) but if you know an artist, I'm sure he or she would love to have the extra newspaper for art projects.
Also, you may have a neighbor nearby that would love to read the news, even if it's a few days late.
Finally, if you live in an area that gets cold weather and you have a fireplace that burns real firewood, there is a contraption that helps roll up newspapers into logs that can be burned in a fireplace. There you go, that's all I could come up with!

You can remove the old cooking oil from the skillet or from the pan prior to dish washing and you can also clean mirrors by using its pages as wipes. Here in our country, old newspapers can be sold to the junk shops for recycling. They are sold by kilograms but at least you may keep those for the meantime then if you plan to travel or to move to another house, with some breakable stuffs like glasses, goblets, figurines, you can also use the old newspapers as covering to prevent them from having scratches or you may turn those to papershreds to cushion the appliances inside their boxes.

There are a lot of ways to get rid of these newspapers. One way is that you can sell them when there are too many piece of them. Another way is that you can give to those who make a living by collecting and selling recyclable things.
