I used to format my computer every time it got infected but now I do a bit of search about the virus on the net and try to remove them manually, that is when my anti virus can't. By the way it takes most of a days' part to first format a computer and then to reinstall it all the way to what it was.

Hi,
I do format my PC. I hate to do it but I don't have other choice because viruses attack my PC until it can't function properly. Usually, it takes 1 and a half hours to install the operating system. Then, I will spend almost 3 hours to install all the drivers and programs I use.
I hope I don't need to format my computer because all the data in the computer will be lost. Now, I create partition for it so that I can only format one partition and my data can be restored after I install everthing.

1st if you're going to partition your pc make sure that the drive c has only 18-20GB (this makes formatting quicker)
then all the rest of the disk space put it on your Drive D

Usually it takes about an hour or two to get my computer working again (OS and other programs installed).
I only format / reinstall my OS when it cannot be repaired anymore by simple virus scanning / cleanup / defragmenting / etc. (usually when my computer has had another case of BSoD).

It is not hard to format your PC but it just take quite sometimes to do it. Windows XP boot CD actually have the application to format your Hard disk when you are about to install it. It will prompt you whether you to reformat or not.
The length of time to take in formatting a disk is depending on the capacity of the disk. The larger the space the longer it takes especially when you have all the disk occupy with programs you have installed.
Other application software you can use is call partition magic. You can format and partition your hard disk into few partitions. This is a good software you can download for free from the bittorrent site like mininova.org. That is only if your country support illegal download he he.

Formating the pc doesn't take much time.
For reinstalling the WINDOWS it takes around 45 minutes.
The rest is time for installing ur favorite softwares, time depends from the softwares you need to install.
If you are formatting the pc to get rid of the virus or any other problems, Better you keep a backup after you completely reinstall windows and install all the softwares. So that you can restore the whole thing in less than 2 minutes using the DRIVE RESTORE.
I use NERO BACKIT UP to create and restore backups. It is very easy to use tool from nero.
First you need to create a bootable cd using backit up tool. and you boot from the cd and create a backup for your hard drive and you can restore the backup when some thing GOES WRONG...
HAPPY COMPUTING
