I will be glad to give you a recording of what I sounded like when I first started to take singing lessons, but I do not want you to get up from your seat and run screaming in terror. One of the tests was for me to record my voice and sing. I thought I sounded beautiful. At least it sounded that to my ears. I will spare you and the rest of the myLotters from listening to my horrible nasal drivel.
The funny thing is when you sing right, your voice sounds worse to you then it does to the listeners. That is the funny thing about singing.

That might be the general case, because an amalgam of poorly tuned voices can approximate a more closely tuned compound voice.
In short, cross-correlation helps to cancel out (or balance) misdirected tones.
However, I've heard renditions which clearly demonstrate that not all voices sound better in an aggregation.
To wit, one act which combined the talents of Dolly Parton, Linda Rondstat and some other commercially popular "hottie", which was marketed under the banner of "musical harmonies" or other such nonsense.
I've never heard such a shrill, out of tune racket - even the local midnight feline orchestra sounded like an angelic choir compared to that rubbish. If Saddam Hussein really wanted to get his hands on WMDs, he could have just hired these girls.

Well let's be frank here - Dolly is Dolly (both of her!).
And she's a talented and accomplished artist and entertainer with a long history of musical hits, as well as a few movie roles, to her credit.
But sadly, pairing Dolly with the likes of Linda Rondstat seems to bring out the alley cat in all of them.

I will pretend you did not say anything negative about Dolly.

That's always embarrassing when people notice lol. My boyfriend does it all the time because he never knows the words to songs.

LOL!! Yes, I have deluded myself on many an occassion into thinking that I could be the next Ancient American Idol. The shower is another place, with the echo and acoustics, that you sound awesome. I try to confine all my singing to the shower and when there is terribly loud music playing.

Yes, I have noticed that. I get fooled into thinking that I am actually capable of singing! But when I sing it again without the music I wake up to the reality that no, I am just not born to sing. LOL
Professional singers make it look so easy. It really does take talent.

Oh yeah, it's ture! Well, if your voice just blends and sounds good when it does, it just probably mean you can't go solo. You maybe fit to be into a choir or duets, or just be a second voice.

Hahaha! I kinda felt that too ('v'). I love to sing, but sometimes the song doesn't like me. You know what I mean. But there are also times that I like to hear myself in acapella but when accompanied w/ any instrument or w/ someone, especially w/ a better voice, my voice seems to have its own self and get shy, I cant control it hehehe! Im just thankful that my friends are okay with it.

This is one of those really stange things. I think also, when you sing along with a song, you blend in with the music in the background, and the background singers, but when you sing alone, there's NOTHING in the background.

If you are talking about me, yes it would be 100% correct. My voice is not good. I was chosen to school vocal group, but I consider it terrible mistake.

Yeah i do...i think it's something got to do with our confidence and understand of the song pitch and tempo. Following the song you can easily follow the singer and the band sing but without their guidance you might lost track of the tempo and pitch.
Until that moment i thought about this before i began to really appreciate the work art of musicians. I meant their creativity and innovation to produce different song and the idea of getting the song blend with its meaning. It is not as easy as we use to sing along with them on the tape.

No I hadn't noticed. I do notice that some singers sound really good only in the shower. THen they step out, and the magic is over. I guess its the same concept. lol But it can be disappointing. oh well, We cannot all be Barbara Striesand.
