Do we tell our emergency personel thanks often enough?

I am a firefighter/emt and so many times we risk our life for some stranger in the middle of the night, in a thunderstorm with lightining and rain, often leaving our families and food at the dinner table. So many more sacrafices we make only to be bad mouthed because the home wasn't saved or the person died. What took so long? Not often do you hear Thanks you did all you could. Our fire is volunteer and we have very good response to be all volunteer. I was just wondering how often do you tell an emergency personel be it law, fire, or ems thanks for what you do? I know how important it is and I try on every call to thank all that helped including our dispatchers. They deserve it.

Any time I see one of you, I say thanks and keep up the good work!
If I had my way, we'd have a national holiday for people in your profession and the police. We wouldn't have much of a country without all of you!
Oh, and thank you!

I do agree with you. EMS responders deserve our thanks and applause. I have been working with our city's rescue unit for the past 13 years as a paramedic firefighter. Its not an easy job but a very rewarding one. Well, I had my share of being bad mouthed. Though we do not asked for any reward, a simple thanks is good enough. But on my end, I do received a lot of thanks from relatives and the victim themselves. Best to you!

when I had a disastrous fall two years ago outside
my favorite restaurant, these two wonderful young emts
put me ,a large lady, on,a back board and into their
ambulance and treated me so kindly and so gently.I
had broken my left shoulder and was in some pain
and the one was so reassuring and both were just
plain marvelous.I told them both so as I was ever
so grateful for their assistance. We should all
tell them just how grateful we are for all that they
do and not bad mouth them for things they cannot help.We
also have a fine police force here in tustin and I have thanked
several officers who were of help to us at various times.

Although people seem to show appreciation in public, a nearby community recently voted against a $2 annual increase in taxes that was going to be used to bump up the pay of the EMTs. The public decided it wasn't that important. What do the EMTs make? About 24,000. They work 24 hour shifts. In fact, this is old...I'm gonna start a new topic!
