Why do dogs lick the air when you scratch them near the tail?

I've noticed this with most dogs, except Boston Terriers. When you scratch them just in front of their tail, they lick the air and really enjoy your doing it. I just wonder why they have that reaction, it's kind of funny!...

jrsmith I work with this guy that is a pain. He dont know when to quit. I try to ignore him but that makes him worse. After a while I just yell at him and he finally gets the message. This last for a little while at least.

jrsmith I do buy because of color but I am a dark person. Usually I buy black. Navy is next in line. I just can't be a flashy person. I am overweight bad and I just don't do colors. I love colors but don't think I would look good in them.
