Do you know anyone that is a survivalists and that has started stock piling food and clothes and guns and things of that nature for the world to collapse as we now know it? Have they moved out to rural area's so they can grow some of their own foods and use wood burning stoves and fireplaces? I use to house sit for a co-worker when i lived in California who was one her and her husband. Tons of guns and in a place that if you drove by you wouldn't know someone lived there. It had and old building out front of their cinder block house. Planter boxed where they grew veggies and like i said tons of guns. There were several families in this area like that. they live about 20 to 30 minutes outside of town. You know people like this?

Although she's not a survivalist, my Mom is stocking up on things. She has food, clothes and money tucked away in case we need it. She's also arranged her house some so that if all of us kids (2 already live with her, and 2 don't) need to come home we can. It would be crowded but it could be done.

It sounds like your mom is very wise. It also shows that she really is looking out for all of your best intrests. My grandmother always said, expect the worst, and be prepared for it, if it turns out good, you can be pleasantly surprised.

I do know people who are increasing their gardens. They are canning more and dehydrating foods. Most everyone I know is stock piling and has been for awhile. Most of them say that it just makes them feel safer to do so. I have always thought it was a good idea. I think people want to be more self reliant and they are not willing to take the chance that they may not be able to feed their families.

Looking at the way things are going on right now it seems like a very good idea to stock up on some things. So many losing jobs and things of that nature. If people stock up on things here and there maybe when and if (God forbide) they lose their job they will be okay for awhile

I agree with you. Stocking up can buy precious time. It can carry people over to help them get by. I think if you can afford to stockpile, then yes, do it. I know some people cannot afford to do this. It is good even if you do not have alot of money, to put back rice, beans, just whatever you can. IF WE ALL DO THIS, PEOPLE WILL BE ABLE TO HELP THEMSELVES AND EACH OTHER.

Not on a big scale, but I always like to have some spare food, candles and suchlike around the house in case of emergencies. Back in the 80s, when the Cold War looked like it might be coming to a crisis, I read a lot of survival literature, invested in NBC gear etc. I've never been able to afford anything as grand as a bomb shelter.
