I was just wondering how many of you out there run your own business? I started my shop on a wonderful site called Etsy. I'm looking for other people that make their own goods. If I like your stuff I pass along the link to my friends.
How are your businesses doing? What are you finding does and doesn't work? Are you internet based or do you sell and promote otherwise?
If you want to check out my shop I will post a link below. It's looking very sad these days though as I have been on vacation for a month and have had absolutely no time to sew. Maybe I should stay off of MyLot and get back to it! LOL!

I don't have my "own" business yet. But I do business. I'm into direct selling. Products are fashion bags, watches and other women fashion accessories. I wanted to put it into online marketing but really don't know how yet. Blogging about it is something I have in mind but I really don't know yet how to go round this blogging thing. As for now, I'm just selling directly, to friends and colleagues. Having my own business is one of my dreams though.
Congrats to you for having yours. I wish you you do well and have lots of clients and customers. For me doing business is far better than being an employee. (just my opinion, I don't have anything against employment, just to clarify that LOL!)

no, i don't actually... but me and my hubby are planning to set up one in the future when we are more financially stable and we have the capital to do that... we don't want to borrow from the bank too much as it attracts too much interest... we want to start on a small business and still thinking what field we should do... good luck with your business... take care and have a nice day...

emma412,
Your site is wonderful. I would like to let you know that I am a web designer. I used to set-up eCommerce stores. Most of them are aimed to commercial purposes. So, if you need my help to set-up eCommerce stores, I will be able to do so for you. I can also create banners, logos, etc.

Hi! I'm also on Etsy and you can find a link to my shop in my profile. I need to clean up my shop a bit, a couple items dropped off and I'd like to take some new pictures before re-listing and I have a few items ready to go, but I need pictures and to do the write-ups for them (I'm recovering from a bad double ear infection, swollen glands, etc and the meds just knock me out) and hopefully I'm up for getting some of that accomplished today.
What works for me is promoting. I've come to realize that not only does promoting help buyers find my shop, but it also helps other sellers find me and maybe include my items in their treasuries.
I'm off to take a look at your shop

I'm not at all artistic like you guys - I wish I were! My spouse and I have a software development company. We're pretty much promoted by internet and by referrals from prior clients. We are www.chino.com
Etsy is a great site, there are alot of sellers there with some really unique stuff. I like to look and get ideas, but I never have the skills necessary to make much.

I Don't Have My Own Business But I Am In Direct Sales And I'm Trying To Get The Hang Of E-bay And A Couple Of Other's. I Sell A Lot Of Diffrent Things Such As Candles,Bath And Body Item's, Adult Products, Gift Wrap, Jewelry And Lot's Of Other Neat Little Things And Being A Work At Home Mom, I Don't Bring In As Much As Hubby Does Sometimes But During Holiday's I Bring In More Than Him And I'm Hoping To Do That All Year Because It Would Be Nice To Be Able To Give Him A Break. If I Do Well Enough This Year, I'll Be Opening My Own Brick And Mortar Store With My Income Tax Refund. Woo-hoo!

hi emma.
i do have my own business. i sell baked goodies and sweets in a flea market every sunday near my place. it really takes a lot of time as i have to set up early in the morning and usually end at around 8 or 9 pm. it's doing ok. i benefit from good word of mouth and i've established a small customer base already.
i also sell stuff online but business has been slow online. i sell cds and shirts of underground and indie bands. i don't really do this for the money but really as a hobby as i'm a big fan of music.
that's about it.

I don't have any crafty talent as you guys, but I have my own business. I've opened my private teaching practice (I teach English) and I do allright. I also have my own online business, translations.
Having your own biz is not as glamourous as much people think: working in what you like, no boss, your own schedule. And the truth is that we have to work more hours than regular job people, and usually oneself is the worst boss ever.
But the best compensation, besides independence is when i finish a project I particularly enjoyed and I say: "And on top of this, I get paid for doing this!"
I really love my job, and believe me is not for the money, but for all the rest, for doing what I love, and for me and my family, not for a big company.
