Wow, that is close. We had storms like that a few weeks ago, knocked the power out for 22 hours. A road not five miles away had alot of debris from houses.... lot of hooting and howling but nothing really bad where we were.

Really close. A couple years ago we had one go right down my street. It uprooted my neighbors 40 foot pine tree and just ripped a few branches off our tree. My son and I were outside when it hit and ran into my garage as we heard the tree get ripped from the ground about 2 feet up.

I am fine even after witnessing a funnel cloud on my trip out as a storm chaser. There's a discussion about that as well I started a few minutes ago. I am still shaking.

I'm in Georgia and we had hail here last week during a storm and had had
tornado warnings. What scares the hell out of me is that where I am I
have no shelter. These storms are more and more frequent and it would
probably behoove us to have a shelter. No place to hide! Anyone have
any ideas. Would digging a hole be adequate protection?

I am gonna put something in here that really might scare you , maybe you have heard of the twister that took out Greensburg kansas .If there is a threat of anything that size a ditch probley wont help a whole lot. My uncle was almost ripped out of his basement that night. There wasn't even a floor left ,not any debris where their house stood. They say it is about the biggest on record tho , hopefully something like that wont ever happen anywhere else.
It does seem to me like there are more tornados happening more often these days.

Yes any low lying area is protection. They say if in a car don't try to outrun a tornado. Stop the car and lie in a ditch or other low lying area.

So laying low is definitely in my best interests and there is a ditch
about 100 yrds. in front of our trailer. Thanks Grandpa Bob!

Yeah, I saw that on the news last night. On Saturday we had eight tornadoes touch down. I was watching my local news station, and then I turned it to CNN and then FOX News. Both were showing the coverage of the local station I had just turned to. They kept showing the one tornado that blew a farm away. I mean over and over again. I'm like, man people, how many times do you need to see this? I know people can get fascinated by it, but good grief!

LOL - this is addiction to the internet :(
Head to the basement first and tell us about it later :) hugs to you dear friend - there have been so many tornados this year I've lost track but have been blessed thus far not to have any in our area.

I couldn't do that. I wasn't even online when the sirens sounded. I was watching the storm from my front deck. It got real quiet then the sirens went off. They already had confirmed the tornado touched down. So it had already hit before I started this discussion, hence the title.

That must have been such a scary thing to go through. Hope all is fine with you.
It seems like we are hearing about so many tornados lately. I have a nephew who lives in Suffolk, Virginia. They had a tornado a little while ago. It took us almost two weeks of trying to get in touch with him to find out if it was near him and if he was okay. He has never been one to answer quickly. When we did hear from him he said the tornado was a block away. And he said it was "cool". I'm not sure that is what I would call a tornado if it was that close.

I recently found out that we have no sirens here! There was a drill a couple months ago and I listened but never heard any, that was why. Crazy, cos my town has its share of tornadoes.

What town is that?
it's a good idea to get a weather radio.
They are fair priced.
Then turn on automatically for warnings and the such.

Springfield, Ohio! Xenia, about 20 miles away, has been leveled a couple times due to tornadoes. I've heard that my town has its share of tornadoes so I'm prepared, but it was the place I could afford to buy a house.

I shut down my daughter's computer and took a break as well. We had sirens, twice, but we did not see anything that was all that scary. There was hail, I did not see it, I was playing mega blocks with my granddaughter in her room.
