There are a lot of music genres and I can't identify them all...I also have problems which song falls into a certain genre. How about you? Does this categorizing into genres need like a skill or something? or do you have to be a music fanatic to be able to do it? or am I just the only one having problems, haha! There are even some genres that I found similar to each other that I don't know how to differentiate between the two, haha!

If you want to know the genre of a certain music/song you must check the genre of the band who played that song. It's easier to know that way. It's really hard to distingush one from another. You don't really have to be a music fanatic, you just have to be obrservant and informative. Take care :)

I get grunge and some rock music confused myself. When Nirvana first came out with grunge music. I thought it sounded a lot like rock music.

unless one is in need to write articles for music magazines we don't profit from such a knowledge. if you just want to enjoy music, like I like to, just listen to as much as you can and chose what you like best. of course sometimes i read a bit about a band and get to know the genre they belong to but some of the bands don't even agree with the music critics that "label" them as belonging to a specific genre. if you feel the need to identify all the genres better do a couple university degrees and post graduations. joking ;)

Speaking as someone who loves music from every genre they're not that important to me. I like what I like. Don't worry about it. Music genres were invented by marketing A**holes. I'm a musician and I personally hate being asked what kind of music do I play or who do you sound like. The best bands reinvent and cross genres, anyway. Just listen to what makes you feel good and who cares about the genre.

uhh.. yeah, i sometimes hear music that confused me to which genre does it belong. so sometimes, we really have to have little knowledge about music genres or stereotype people would bust us out saying we're a poser. haha! funny, but people really do rely on genres more than the music it self. ^^ ++
