Yesterday, we had thuderstorm, so cloudy that it looked like the evening came, rain was pouring down and the thuder was roaring. So terrible. Suddenly the electricity powered off for a second. We didn't take it seriously.
After chatting, we decided to go up stairstairs by elevator when one friend rushed out saying"i'm scared to death". Later we leraned that she was using the elevator, when there was a big thunder and the power's off. She felt that the elevator's dropping, and she click all the buttons not knowing which floor it stopped. When the door opened, she founded herself in the first floor.
We climbed instead of using elevator on hearing about this incident
So dangerous! Have you ever experienced this? What should we do if this happens?

i do not like being in an elevator.
if it is a closer distance stair wise, i will walk up the stairs.
no offense, but there have been times where i have felt an elevator shake with people being on it, and i would get nervous.

Yeah, asr, it's terrible. Better that we take our handset with us when in an elevator and have friends around. But i don't think we should chat, it will consume oxygen and produce carbon dioxide, which will then shorten the waiting time permitted.

I've been stuck in an elevator many times. Ranging from a minute to about 30 minutes. It shaked a few times, but nothing big. My elevators stop working automatically when the fire alarm is pulled, so if you are in there, you have to wait until the fire department comes and puts out the fire.

I have always been frightened of elevators. I used to work in a hotel complex in another county and there were times when the elevators would act funny. I have actually told this one story to someone else on mylot before... But in any case, the elevator was stuck and would not let us off... we were in there for ten minutes and I clung to a friend of mine... lucky to be working with him...
Well, the elevator in that building also liked to goof up alot and would take me to the basement when I would be pushing the button for the second floor... or sometimes we would go to the 18th floor in another building, when we only pushed for the LL...
Lucky I was to be with co workers most of the time, I haven't ridden in a elevator in a while.. the first time was when I was going to visit a friend in a hospital in the next county. I was with my fiance and his brother.

I thought you may get confused by my wordings. I am sorry I did not clarify as I meant that the elevators were in two different buildings. Yes, the elevators were very much an annoyance to me and my co-workers. Also very unpredictable and scary. Luckily these were only the elevators for the staff and not for guests.

That's a horrible experience. I am so scared of any things like that happen in the elevator. So sometimes when I find a little bit wrong, such as the elevator will stop in a strange floor etc. Then I will go out of it and wait for another elevator. Perhaps I am too nervous, but I don't want to experience any accidents in the elevator.
I love China

HI,youless, it's ok, i don't think that you are too nervous. Awareness of dangers is good and actions should be taken immediately, we never know what's gonna happen. If we find some dangerous, then try to do sth. Don't let it be "Oh, i should have~~"it doesn't work

I was once stuck in an elevator many years ago. Was in there for about 3 hours. Luckily at that time the elevator had grills and so there was suffecient ventilation inside and I could scream out for help. I remember they managed to move the elevator a little and somehow open the grill. They then sent a ladder inside and I came out.

that never happened to me before but i see those kind of things a lot on tv.. a boy and a girl who doesn't get along and takes the elevator and it gets stuck they end up staying there for the night, one of them is freezing then they share their coats... and when they get out of that part they go to the next scene where they start falling in love with each other... yup!! i've seen different kinds of "get stuck on the elevator" scene on series and movies... it doesn't get old, but it's never new either... and if that ever happens to you make the most of it!

wowww..., that is really scary... especially if you are alone inside the elevator... fortunately, i never experience that before and i pray to God that i never have to... that's why i always try to use the staircase as much as i can whenever possible instead of the elevator... take care and have a nice day...

Hi lynettebyc,
I had the experience of being trapped in an elevator a few years ago, when the power in the building failed.
I was stuck there for about an hour until the power came back on.
It really wasn't all that scary or anything. Just like being stuck in a locked room for a while.
I believe most elevators have brakes and other stuff to stop them falling if the power goes off or something else goes wrong, so it's very unlikely that an elevator would fall down the elevator shaft. Probably much more chance of being struck by lightning in a thunder storm than getting killed in an elevator.
I wouldn't like to be trapped in an elevator if the building was on fire, but that's another story entirely.

Hi,dodoguy, then i get a much clear picture about elevators and being trapped in an elevator. It must be lonely to be there,i'm afraid. One hour's not a big problem, but if longer, you'd consider the oxygen content inside and your water supply, i guess. As for fire, wow, too terrible to think about it
Thanks for sharing.

This happened to me when I was going to the gym. I was in an elevator with my friend. I was nervous but I didn't panic. I think we shouldn't panic at times like that. Most of the elevators I go in have this radio button wherein you can push it and tell the operator what happened. I do wish all the elevators was like that.

It's horrific and unsafe, especially in the evening. So,we should take our handsets all the time.If it happens something,we could call someone to lelp us,or it's can't imagine what will happen to us.I didn't meet this case till now.I'm fortunate ,I think.
