Cell phone and land-based phones are neither. Communication is a necessity. And any tool to communicate is a necessity. May it be a cellphone or a land-based phones, they serve the same purpose. It will vary on the degree of the need to communicate.
For a businessman who travels a lot and still need to keep in touch with clients, it becomes high necessity. For a family with a business, land-based phones may be considered of higher value.
it all depends on the access strategy and the need. good day!

Both. I consider it a luxury as not all can afford to have one. I also consider it a necessity as I have had small emergencies, through the years, where I really could have solved my problem with a cell phone, like being stuck in the middle of nowhere with two sleeping babies in my car.

I think you have to take into consideration each persons situation, like where they live, how bad is the crime in their area etc. I know where I Live it is definitely a necessity.

i think cellphone is no more a luxury even the rickshaw pullers, house maids etc.. are using mobile phones it is more a necessity than the luxury it helps us remain in contact with a person when he is away otherwise without cellphone we cannot remain in contact.

Well I think that cellphones are actually a necessity, since nowadays that people need to be more connected with others. I think that cellphones are really necessary. It would only be a luxury if you own a very high-tech model when all you know is to use the SMS or call function of your cellphone.

Like someone has highlighted above, cell phones are both a necessity anda luxury. Although, I think they are more of a necessity. they actually become a luxury when you attach them to the other entertainment functions they perform e.g. cameras, etc. Which ever way you look at it, they are highly necessary.

It might be a luxury for few, but for most of the users it has become a necessity and handy tool of effective communciation and companionship.

its a neccesity., we need it because it is one of the best source of communication now.,especially if you're in a long distance relationship.,it is much easier if you both do have a cellphone.,you can text or call them as often as you want.

Necessity so long as you sue the cellphone to communicate (which is its primary use anyway) but if your going to buy high end phone just so you could brag about i then that's a luxury.

A necessity...don't give up in luxury. Why we share this life? This must be the answer to the run-life we face......Hi, waiting emotions. Love in incurable!

I think cellphone should be a luxury, although many would not agree to what I'm saying. All I want ot suggest is, try to shut the phone off for 3 days and notice the difference. You would find more things to do with the time which would have been otherwise taken up by talking to people on phone about things which don't even matter. I use my phone whenever I want to. It's been a month now since I used a phone and this time has been very peaceful.

If you buy a phone just in order to calls .I think it very cheap for you . If you want to show off you are rich ,you can cost 1 million to buy a diamond phone.
So I want to say different people have different opinions on them with money.

Fo rme its more of a necessity than luxury. Since cellphones are very handy and easy to bring with specially incase of emergencies and if you have no phone at home. Just like in my case I dont have landline so I really needed to have cellphones so that I can be easily contacted with my friends and family member in case they needed me.
