i mean - any guesses on what might happen in the next Harry Potter book? i have a friend who successfully guessed that dumbledore would die in the sixth book - said he saw a pattern emerge, starting with cedric's death in the fourth and sirius' death in the fifth! Anyone agrees? any logical guesses about the plot of the next potter book?

personally, i dont think any of the three main characters will lose their lives, rowling, as we all know, is the best at creating controversy, and considering the uproar created when sir artur conan doyle killed sherlock holmes, he had to bring him back to life in later books, potter series has 10 times more fan base, there is no way rowling will kill potter, its just imposssible

i'd agree with smith there, though the controversy factor itself could possibly tempt rowling into finishing harry off...

I think that harry is going to survive but either hurmine or ron will be losing their lives. I have heared that someone close to harry dose die in the last book. It's just the question of who it will be.

There is a rumor about the release date of 07/07/07 for book 7 going around that sounds very well thought out. The speculation is that it would be the perfect for date for the last Harry Potter book to hit the bookstores. It may not be true as there has not been any official word, but it sounds very convincing! For now, the book's secrets are still safe in the author's imagination, where they belong. Still, fans can't help but start to speculate on what the next book will reveal.

I agree that Rowling has been systematically removing Harry's support system since she started killing characters. Harry wouldn't have been able to stand up to Voldemort on his own in book 7 if Sirius and Dumbledore had been allowed to be alive (although I'm still hoping Sirius didn't really die. Dumbledore said he did, but we've all seen now that Dumbledore isn't all knowing and all powerful).
Harry has a big job ahead of him, but he's made a ton of friends along the way, and there is power in numbers. I look for Neville to really step up to the plate in some way. After all, Voldemort destroyed his parents like he did Harry's. I'm not sure what Ron and Hermione's functions will be. Harry has said he wants to do it alone; they've expressed that they want to go with him. I will miss Hogwarts, but I'm sure some of the main characters will have to be in the 7th book. Harry has been up against Voldemort on his own several times now, but I think the story would get too dark for children if Harry were forced to walk into the darkness all alone.

'removing harry's support system' - i think that indeed best describes what rowling's been doing...and i have growing fear that some of his best friends may follow in the next book...lets hope for Harry's sake that he's not forced to face more dark battles alone...

Cedric had to die to show how ruthless & callous Voldemort really is. I agree with the deaths of Sirius & Dumbledore as stripping away Harry's support system. I think Book 7 will tell us a lot more about Snape, as he is the most enigmatic character in the books, and I think he really is the lynch pin on which everything else hangs. I also expect Neville to step up quite a bit, as he has shown a lot of growth in the backbone department. As far as the plot goes, I'm not sure I can even remotely conjecture about that.....she's taken us on so many twists & turns, who knows what comes out next?

I agree with Ice Princess that we'll learn more about Snape. I also think we'll learn more about Harry's parents, particularly Lily. I think we'll continue to learn more about Voldemort. I heard it speculated that he might have actually been in a position of legitimate power, which would explain why he talks about people having defied him, before his true evil nature was revealed. I think that would add an interesting twist to it.
